Biphetamine Treatment (Top voted first)

Updated

Originally used for weight reduction--it is available for treatment of ADD. I was originally prescribed it for the former, but found it more effective for treatment of ADD than other drugs such as ADDERALL. If not currently available through your company, can you provide sufficient information for pharmacists to formulate this.

ADDERAL is not, IS NOT the same drug as BIPHETAMINE. Biphetamine was discontinued back in the mid seventies due to all the abuse and trademark/patent issues. Pennwalt simply stopped manufacturing them. Biphetamine is the same as dexidrine(Dextroamphetamine), but it was a dextroamphetamine RESIN. They came in black, black and white and white capsules. 20 mg. 12mg.and 7mg.'s respectively. All the problems from abuse to misrepresentation and bootlegs led the federal government to ban them altogetherback in 1976. Although Adderall may have a few mg.s of Biphetamine mixed in with it's XR formula, this does not make adderall BIPHETAMINE! Far from it. Adderall is a cocktail of ritalin. Basic Amphetamine, dextroamphetamines and a dash of biphetamine, hardly enough to notice. Anyone that has once used Biphetamine will surley tell you that nothing comes close to the strength and smooth stealth of a real Biphetaminel Many would like to see them come back.

I continue to be amazed at the amount of misinformation on chat boards. Biphetamine is no longer manufactured. Biphetamine contained equal parts of amphetamine and methamphetamine. Adderall contains equal parts of mixed salts of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Methamphetamine is extremely potent and more toxic to the Central Nervous System than other amphetamines; it's still available by Rx under the brand name Desoxyn. People: Use a search engine, not a chat board and go to some reliable sites - Chat rooms are filled with people who are self-proclaimed medical experts but don't know their a** from their elbow.

Bradan hit it right on the head.
Pennwalt manufactured this drug
up until 1976. I handled thousands
of these pills in my teens right
through college. They are the original Black Beauties. Nothing
better was ever sold to date.

Bradden hit it right on the head. That has been my question for years. I have been treated for ADD, and my God what a difference it's made. However in late 2005 my medication started making me irritable and nervous. I had used desoxyn for approximately 25 of thoe 30 years, and there'd never been any of those kind of problems. Years ago, I'd had a chance to take those bi-phetamines, and they were so smooth. So for the last several years I've been looking for the biphetamines. Is there any chance a compounding pharmacy would/ or could make these? Or even just the old benzedrine? You obviously know what you're talking about it so any advice you could provide me would be very appreciated. Thank so very very much

Dino,
RJS (Strasenburgh Laboratories) of Rochester, NY,
produced "Biphetamine-T" in 12 1/2 (black and green capsules) and "Biphetamine-T" in 20 mg capsules, containing, (12 1/2's) 6.25 mg of d-amphetamine, 6.25 mg of dl-amphetamine, Tuaqualone (methaqualone 40 mg. while, the Biphetamine -T contained, "Resin compounds again, of, 10 mg. of d-amphetamine, 10 mg. of dl-amphetamine, 40 mg of Tuazole (methaqualone) in the once very popular, half black, and half red, capsules, embossed, RJS. (the last year that target specific stimulant combination drug, with Methaqualone, was manufactured, along with other, amphetamine combination drugs with sedatives, due to a DEA ordinance, that took effect in July of 1973, leaving Biphetamine alone, available, for 25 more years.

NOW I AM BEING TREATED FOR ADHD AND THEY HAVE DISCONTINUED THE ONLY DRUG THAT REALLY WORKED: BIPHETAMINE. THE STREETS ARE FLOODED WITH OXYCONTIN, KILLING KIDS EVERY DAY! ALOT OF DRUGS ARE ABUSED..WHY TAKE BIPHETAMINES AWAY???

Yes these drugs were abused but now as many or more are abused and they didn't take those off the shelf. I long for the 70's or even 80's...But I disagree, yours was not the best drug, the best was the real 70's PRELUDIN..Pink round tablet, nothing better before or after in my book.

Treated for ADD for 30 yrs. Most of that time, we used desoxyn as I couldn't tolerate the over stimulation from dexedrine, adderall. Ritalin and focalin just aren't very effective. I got to use biphetamines before I was diagnosed with ADD. There ain't nothing like it on the market today. So my question is there any compounding pharmacies that'll make it?

If they could change the 'h' in adhd from hyperactive to hypersomnia, we would be more accurate in treating attention deficit disorder.

Biphetamine was removed from the USA marketplace, during 1999, by Fisons Pharmaceuticals, formerly, Pennwalt Pharmaceuticals, formerly, the "hot selling" black beauties marketed by "Strasenburgh" embossed "RJ
S" either in all black , black and white capsules, White, black and green or red and black capsules, the latter containing 45 mg of Methaqualone, which, specifically was removed from the marketplace in July of 1973, as were all amphetamines with barbituates or hypnotics, with the exception of SKF's "Dexamyl" which remained on the market until 1982.(a favorite of late actor John Bulishi)
by the way, "Adderall" is just a slick madison avenue marketing name, when the buyout of the trademark "Obetrol" diet pill was transacted in 1993. In fact, "Obetrol, prior to the mid 1980's, was much, much stronger than the new age Adderall with 50% of the formula containing methamphetamine. Source: PDR's from 1965 to 1985. (Mfg Rexall Corp, Brooklyn NY, a division of Obebrol Pharma.

dhbranx,
thank you for correcting the pharmaceutical chemical
compound technicality, that, Biphetamine (this is word for word quote, from, PHYSICIAN'S DESK REFERENCE, 47th edition, page 1002, under "Fisons Corp., of Rochester, NY 14623 USA. "quote Biphetamine 12 1/2 each capsule contains exchange resins complexes, equivalent to: Amphetamine 6.25mg, Dextroamphetamine 6.25mg. black and white capsules, NDC code 0585-0878-71, and, Biphetamne
20, each capsule contains catonic exchange resin complexes equivalent to: Amphetamine 10mg, Dextroamphetamine 10mg. black capsules, National Drug Code 0585-0875-71. Other ingredients, in Biphetamine: dibasic calcium phospate, FD&C Blue No 1, FD&C Red No 40, FD&C Yellow No 6, gelatin, lactose, magesium stearate, titanium diozide, and other ingredients in trace quantaties" unquote. On page 1003, "stock bottles of 100 capsules". Biphetamine is a registered trademark of Fisons BV (1991). The PDR 47th edition issued in the year 1993.
truckdriver, jimbo, JBA, Dino, and others, "I was given a diagnosis of ADD inattentive type, DSM-IV code 314.00. in the year 1994. I personally attended the Nov 1995 ChAAD conference in Washington DC, when, Fisons still produced "Biphetamine", and, another conference, hosted, by ADDA, (Attention Deficit Disorder Association) another professional support group, targeting "Adults with ADD, primarily, and also, to a lesser extent, Adults with Narcolepsy, and Treatment Resistant Depression, a/k/a Refractory Depression, (a uncommon condition, where, traditional
anti-depressants, SSRI's, SNRI's, and/or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, have failed, and, some brave M.D.'s, (mostly Psychiatrists, and Neurologists, were still prescribing Biphetamine, including, the nationally known proactive speaker, Paul Elliott, M.D. (greater Dallas, TX) spoke for one hour @the 4th ADDA's Annual National Adult Conference, during the weekend of March 26, 27, 28, in the year 1998, about his (then) 20 year+ experiences, as a M.D, prescribing C-II stimulants, to Adults, presenting themselves with either, documented history of ADD symptoms from childhood, into adulthood, with a nationwide client list,
due to his strong, reputation, of prescribing ethical pharmaceuticals, to desperate adult individuals, especially before Dr. Russell Barkley, demonstrated scientific evidence, from PET scans, proving, that ADD and ADHD, could carry on beyond male puberty, for the rest of ones life, including, the minority of females, with ADD, and ADHD in 1990, with acceptance, with the medical profession, by 1992 thru 1994 years, especially, with the millions of people who bought, "Driven to Distraction" (1994) written, by two M.D's one of whom had ADD himself, authors, Edward M Hallowell, M.D and John J Ratey, M.D. also, regular speakers, at the national once yrly ADDA conferences.
"Paul Elliott M.D." was especially, positive, of the appropriate use of "Biphetamine" : he claimed, by March of 1998, to thousands, of patients, who sought, Dr. Elliott out, especially before, Adult ADD was well accepted, in the mid 1990's. I have the actual tape of his speech, "Complications of Medicating",IMHO, the most authorative, M.D. speech, on the use of all stimulants, available, at that 1998 conference. The tape was produced by Cheapeake Audio/Video Communications, Inc. 6330 Howell St., Eldridge, MD 21075, Phone (410) 796-0040. (a audio cassette).
More positive references on "Biphetamine" are in the book Synopsis of Psychiatry 7th edition (1994) by the late Harold I Kaplan MD, Benjamin J Saddock M.D. &
Jack A Crebb, M.D. on page 891, Biphetamine is listed, as approved, quote by "the Food & Drug Adminisration recommends, the use of amphetamine only for weight reduction and ADHD, specifically with a asterick, by the Fisons Corp. product Biphetamine sustained release capsule.
I did not know I had ADD or ADHD, but, it was available from 1967 until 1976, with contacts, around exam time, (for me) and, it worked like magic for me, as I labored, for 7 years, to acheive my Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. My contacts, including, fraternity brothers, to, once a college roomate, who had a father, who was the owner and pharmacist, of, a independant pharmacy in Georgia, while I attended the University of GA in Athens, Ga.
I am ignorant if a compounding pharmacy can make this drug, IMHO, I doubt it, but I currently use the only compounding pharmacy in my city, for another, med, that is no longer produced in "the USA" but is produced, in Europe, "I had my M.D. write a script for this non controlled substance, (antihistamine) after I verified, it was still made in Europe, from, the 36th edition of Martindale: The Extra Pharmacopoeia, (2009) publisher Pharmaceuetical Press, London UK. a 2 volume set of books containing 3,694 pages of ethical pharmaceuticals, available in 40 countries, of the modern industrialized world. Biphetamine is not listed.
It was "in the top three of all amphetamines I have ever taken, for effectiveness, and its smooth long lasting ability to enable me to focus my often scattered way of concentrating" the second one, Desbutal Gradumet, 15 mg tablet, contained 15 mg of Methamphetamine HCI, and 97 mg of Sodium Pentobarbital, mfg was Abbott Labs, the last one, was
"Dexedrine Spansule" mfg, Smith Kline French, later, SK Beecham, until most recently, Glaxo Smith Kline, in the 15 mg famous tapered end extended release capsule, allegations, are that, "Dexedrine Spansule" available from 1952, until 2010, has been removed off of the market. Allegedly, a small pharmaceutical firm, has just negotiated the rights, to re-produce, "Dexedrine Spansules" as the price, has "gone thru the roof" from 1995 until around 2005, the Average Wholesale Price, was, one dollar each for 15 mg, on a RX, and, was sold to me by prescription, for, $86.00 for sixty 15 mg. caps, in 2005, $1.43 each. By the year 2009, Dexedrine Spansule (brand by GSK) had a average wholesale price, of, a stunning, $300.06, for 15 mg, NDC code 00007-3514-59, Source: REDBOOK PHARMACY'S FUNDAMENTAL REFERENCE 113th year of publication, by PDR Inc. on page 378, for one bottle of ninety (90) Dexedrine Spansules. (that is $3.33 AWP without the standard retail markup of 20% per capsule). Cash retail price.

Adderall is NOT methylphenidate based - it's amphetamine based. Check your source..

Biphetamine is NOT the same as Adderall.

Bi (meaning 2!) phetamine was a mix of METHamphetamine & dexamphetamine...

Quite different indeed!!!

Methamphetamine was banned in ALL pharmaceutocals recipes before 1980. It sticks to different receptor sites that are way more sensitive & dangerous - esp in terms of addiction. I read somewhere that by the end of the war, Hitler was injected 4x a day with it... Poster child for a maniac.. lol!

I've been taking Dexamphetamine for almost 30yrs. Australia does not allow Adderall (yet, anyway). You *know* you need it when it makes you so calm, comfortable, & a lowering of anxiety that I have dosed off asleep if things got boring!

Ppl can't believe it.. I have pure ADD (w/o hyperactivity) & 55yr old female. I didnt like running around as a kid; but I was a big time daydreamer... to me school felt like an old soap opera... If teachers caught me & asked if I knew what the class was just doing - I just took a guess. 9 times out of 10 I was right. Classes ran so slowly for me! I used to think the other kinds were joking that they *didn't * know the teachers answer! I mean she said the same exact thing 20 different ways 20 times in 20 days... just like a soap opera..

Me, I played music in my head. Constantly. ADD kids are wired different - but don't always need meds; or in my sitch - needed the meds; didn't get them & came through alright anyway.

It was only after I was a Wall St software engineer in my 20's that it affected my life... & also why I never got addicted in 30yrs.

Supha, on Sun, Feb 02 '14, 4:00 AM - You Stated: "I just found some biphetamine capsules mixed in with an elderly family members things, they're completely black and the packages are still sealed. I'm wondering if the fact that they're from the '70s would matter much if one were to take them."

You can look up pill ID's on the internet by the numbers on those pills. They are similar to adderall but NOT the same.

Pharmaceuticals are DESIGNED and REQUIRED to be STABLE, and their potency falls very very little over time, especially when they are sealed so there is no air to dissipate? depotentiate?* over time. *(Not the exact word I'm looking for but you get the idea.)

I recall a study by some Harvard Professor who did drug evaluations on old meds like this and found something like ten year old pills in a plastic RX bottle in a med. cabinet in an A/C'd home only lost like 4 or 2% of their potency in that time. IMPORTANT - SEE BELOW.

As I recall, his conclusion was that none of the pills that he studied had weakened to the point that they would NOT pass the 'relative equivalence' percentages legally required of generics vs. Brand.

That drug evaluation may have played a role in a legal suit around 2015 by Louisiana's Atty. General against the big pharma companies, regarding the BS 'expiration dates' on meds.

Conclusion: Research and assume they are full potency and similar to Adderall. Take no more than one at first (and I would also do a 'taste check' by opening the capsules - as BB's/Biphetamines all were (as I recall- odds 91%) - to ensure that the one you taste does not taste as if it's 'gone bad.' [IMPORTANT: EXCEPT Antibiotics OR Antivirals].

Yes, I well remember the Biphetamine-T which was a red and black shiny capsule of a upgraded Biphetamine 20 mg (Black Beauty) as mfg was Strasenburgh and the Biphetamine-T had methaqualone added to the resin complexes of d and dl-amphetamine "all as a cation exchange resin complexes of sulfonated polystyrene" quote from the 1968 Physicians Desk Reference, page 1131 of the 22nd edt published by Medical Economics Inc Oradell, New Jersey copyright 1967. The "T" stood for Tuazole (Methaqualone) and the embossment on both the red and black or the black beauty was a "RJS" the king of the hill from the mid 1960's until July of 1973, when the newly formed DEA banned the production of target specific combined stimulants with a sedative, with one exception, SKF's Dexamyl 5mg, 10mg 15 mg was given a reprieve from the DEA until SKF discontinued it in the year 1982. Also, Strasenburgh Labs, a division of Wallace and Tiernan Inc, of Rochester, NY was sold to Penwalt Corporation in late 1970 / and transitioned during the year 1971 During the 1990's Fisons Corporation, also of Rochester NY 14603 continued to manufacture the Biphetamine in the two strengths as Strasenburgh had since the mid 1960's, in a 12 1/2 capsule and the 20 all black shiney capsule, (the former was a 1/2 black and 1/2 white capsule) until, the end of calendar year 1998. That darn stigma from the diet pill late 1960's and early 1970's counterculture, is what caused, the ADD and ADHD MD's to shy away from prescribing this excellent stimulant, as, Obetrol, (later Richwood's Adderall) was to steal the show, along later with ShireUS who bought out Richwood around the year 2002. Thus, the famous black beauties are "Gone with the Wind" most unfortunately.... I was fortunate enough to have tried all versions in the early 1970's, and only the long deleted, Abbott Desbutal Gradumet 15mg of Methamphetamine added to 90 mg of Sodium Pentobarbital could compete with the "Red & Black" RJS/ later just Penwalt, Biphetamine T 20 mg! I got the very last of the combination stimulants with powerful sedatives, in June of 1973, as I could not get my RX filled in the following month July of 1973 due to that DEA ruling!!! I shall never forget!

Fisons Corporation Bedford MA USA made the last Biphetamine capsule in the year 1998. They were the very very rare, but "final step up" of the exact same formula from the 1960's formula of the shiny Black Beauty 20 mg. embossed "RJS" by former Strasenburgh Labs of Rochester NY.

I once knew............................via a Washington DC national convention cira 1998, a now retired MD, who prescribed this med from the greater Dallas Texas USA region of USA, he used to be a keynote speaker for national ADDA conventions held once a year in the USA, (next convention is in Atlanta GA for November 2017).

The reason many on this forum state the Strasenburgh later "Pennwalt" eventually Fisons Pharm firms who made the real deals associate 1976 as the last year, is because IMHO that was the very last year, I personally had access to those well deserved famous Black Beauties, after that "Bicentenial Year 1976" I never saw one or had access to any, and, even the street availability of Biphetamine really dried up..........IMHO. Radical changes in the USA comparing 1971 to the year 1979 !!

I had ADHD but, some MD's would prescribe me Preludin, or Dexedrine, or once Desoxyn, but it was off label prior to the mid 1970's. It took me, a long dry run of begging USA Psychiatrists, finally in the year 1994 for the "Speed Stigma" to be removed by a very trusting USA Psychiatrist, as ADHD ADD, Narcolepsy, and Refractory Depression was accepted, and the "diet pill" abuse of the 1960's and early 1970's was finally removed.

I lost a solid 20 years of my adult life due to the stigma once attached to any USA stimulant, but was rescued in 1994 ( by this time I had hit the mile marker of age 40 years old + ......
