Big Pharma's Lockdown On Legitimate Chronic Pain Patients (Page 44)

Updated

Is narcotic pain medicine becoming a thing of the past?

Why are doctors across America phasing out the practice of prescribing effective pain medication?

Will big pharmaceutical companies ever truly understand what it's like to face the other side of the coin?

Lately there's been a musty scent in the air surrounding the use of prescribed narcotic pain medication. Many doctors appear to be running scared as the DEA scours through fields of medical records, inspecting prescribing pads like a mouse scavenges for food in a dimly lit cellar.

Should the day come when doctors recommend Ibuprofen to a feeble man who's been involved in a terrible car accident (breaking several bones / requiring extensive surgery), is this doctor at risk of malpractice when there are more effective options available that they choose not to pick, out of fear? Fear of what? Doing the right thing? No, I don't think this is the reason... Somewhere along the line, in the not too distant past, doctors were loosely prescribing narcotic pain medication as if it would never go out of style. Nowadays, the harsh penalty of potentially losing their license for writing any unknown number of opiate prescriptions over so many calendar days or some other form of strict criteria, has been enough to prevent many physicians from taking even subtle "risks" with patients who are expressing obvious signs of pain and discomfort.

The unfortunately unique problem with pain is that it's not a physical object and in order for others to detect it, they'd have to rely solely on the backbone of our body language using their intuition - something that's gone missing in western practice. If more doctors took the time and really got to know their patients front to back, then they will be their own best judge of deciding what the right thing to do is, regardless of what the DEA thinks about their decision or what their drug representative wants out of the deal. Sadly, until patients are put before profits, the foundation of America's healthcare system remains in jeopardy like an iceberg affected by global warming.

While I believe that the vast majority of human beings in their right mind would choose to do the right thing, we must all work together to become the change we wish to see within every aspect of our lives; and knowing that by doing so, it will shine light on those crossing our path that need it most.

In the meantime, some patients may have to find another way to manage their pain without putting their life or health at risk. Others are turning to natural alternatives such as kratom, cannabis, turmeric and/or implementing various lifestyle changes into their daily regime... But the key is to never give up hope.

What will you do?

Warm regards to all who face life's challenges head on.

I also would like to try Kratom before it is outlawed but don’t know where to get it in Ohio. I have tried CBD ands it didn’t help anything but sleep.

I looked it up and found some interesting info online. They are trying to claim several deaths do to kratom. One individual had deep vein thrombosis and also had other substances that happened to be illegal, several at least in their body at the time of their death. Another had kratom in their system but also nine other substances. From what I'm reading it's not been thoroughly researched enough for them to claim that is kratom causing these deaths. I also read however that it can cause side effects that I would never want to have such as anxiety/paranoia. If I want that I could smoke some cannabis LOL.

I think it's a really a shame that it's effects are that way because it does give my daughter who has severe fibromyalgia an immense amount of relief from her nausea and generalized pain throughout her body. She's very underweight it helps her to eat. She has trouble sleeping and it helps her to sleep. For her it's a wonder drug. The Cannabis I mean not the kratom.

Hi Dee. Based on my experience with Kratom, anxiety/paranoia is only an attribute of the white or yellow strains, not the red or green. The white and yellow strains are VERY stimulating, while the red and green are either sedating or balanced. The dose you have also affects whether you get more or less stimulated/sedated. Just wanted to add that piece of information from trial and error over a few years.

I also posted the following discussion thread here on MedsChat so people can learn more about Kratom at: The-Kratom-Encyclopedia-A-List-Of-Benefits

P.S. Glad to hear that the cannabis is helping your daughter! I'm actually fan of CBD oil over THC for pain and anxiety treatment, but know that both have their place as medicine when taken responsibly.

Best wishes to you!

You must be another “touchy feelings”. First of all I am not “fighting with you”.You are the one that said that we need to find the candidate that will speak out (on our side) for chronic pain patients and vote accordingly. Sounds like all you are interested in to me. If you want to leave then that is your prerogative. I will not allow another person’s comment to. Cause me to leave. It was you who said “you do not have to come to every fight you are invited to”.i agree. Just ignore the comments you don’t agree with and quit “fighting” (posting) with those you had just rather ignore. Why do you feel the need to respond to posts from people that you do not like? I ignored posts that I did not like for a long time but finally I got fed up with listening to individuals and groups being called out unfairly and I responded. Keep hitting me and you will get a response. “Turn the other cheek” will last for only a little while until you have to respond because you just can’t take it anymore. Sorry, you are so thin skinned but if you would practice what you preach then any issues would just go away. Once again, I am not fighting with you. I just say it how I feel.

Thanks for that info... I can't believe the FDA is trying to Ban it. A bill just passed the house and going to the Senate.. it needs to be stopped! Please make calls and tell your friends. It helped me come off the 200 mcg Fentanyl sucker.

Kratom is part of the coffee family... There are different strains / colors... It's harmless. I never had to take a lot of it and it helped with a couple issues I had. Gone now :-)

Re: C (# 866) Expand Referenced Message

Like the one you may take for a new job, consists of an immunoassay, a biological test with antibodies that are designed to detect THC and its main metabolite, 11-nor-delta9-caboxy-THC (THC-COOH). That means that the test was developed specifically to check for the use of THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis.

Fortunately, the U/A for THC and its metabolites is known to have very little cross-reactivity to other cannabinoids that are not psychoactive, such as CBD, CBG (cannabigerol), CBN (cannabinol), and others. Therefore, since CBD oil derived from hemp containing only trace amounts of THC, a hemp oil routine shouldn’t cause a user to fail a drug panel.

Re: Dee (# 872) Expand Referenced Message

The logic makes sense but the word “shouldn’t” could be open to mean “maybe or maybe not”. If you want to roll the dice on any drug panel or U/A that is your choice but after the law was voted in to allow commercial sales of cannabis in Colorado some people thought that was a green light to smoke anytime they wanted to without impunity. One owner of a business had a company-wide meeting and told his entire staff that if you test positive for ANY drugs (other than legally obtained prescription drugs) you were going to be terminated immediately. If you self-reported they would give you six months to get detoxed and, if necessary, they would pay for drug treatment. After that you were subject to U/A’s or other drug panels without notice. Once a year you were given an unannounced hair follicle drug screening which is alleged to give an accurate drug screen for an entire year. This employer meant business. His business involved driving a company vehicle often and he did not want anyone that had drugs in their system operating his cars/trucks. There is one city that prohibits the use of TOBACCO in any form on or off the job. This got employees attention and they tried to sue because they thought it was Unconstitutional but they lost in Court TWICE. This city’s health insurance program gave them a sizable discount if they only had non-smokers working for them so they put everyone on notice and gave them the rest of the year to quit (about 9 months). After that, if they tested dirty for TOBACCO they were discharged.

I don't know what to do about my meds that I have been on for almost 13 years, same dose, same everything. Then I moved to another state due to the disability of my husband and I, and immediately was dropped down from my norm that I was getting, to the lower dose that I'm getting now. I have RCPD and RSD. I am lucky to have a doctor that is willing to give me my meds but she cut everything right in half so now I am getting half of what I was getting and it doesn't work, and I read where people were actually let go of by their doctors because their meds just didn't do the job anymore period. After a year-and-a-half later I've gained 35 lbs. I was 132 when I moved here. I also have a page-and-a-half for my MRI of my chronic back of herniated bulging discs, degenerative disc disease, & spinal stenosis. I'm at a loss right now because I have no quality of life. Now the RSD has gone on to both knees, and if it wasn't for the fact that I didn't have a beautiful loving husband and two beautiful children and grandchildren I don't think I'd be doing this right now and I would be in about 6 ft under. And my dilemma is I'm scared of what the doctor will do with me. It's not a pain management, because nobody could fit me in, they were all booked up, all the pain clinics. So, I ask you what does a person do? I am going to be 65 years old this September and I feel like my life is slipping away. Literally just slipping away because I'm sleeping, laying down on the couch, I can't do a dinner and feel just totally hopeless. I get in my mind that I want to do this and I want to do that and I'm going do this, and then as soon as I stand up I have to fall back into my bed cuz I hurt so bad. Why are these doctors being so worried about what a patient goes through from day to day? I don't know if there's anybody out there that can answer this question?

Just because of the selfish part of the population abuses medication, us that live every day and severe pain have to suffer because of stupid people that don't care about other people. If someone wants to play around and OD on drugs they know nothing about, it should be on them, not on the poor people that suffer severe pain every flipping day and night. Do you know I can't even put a blanket over my knees? Yes, that is true because the weight of the blanket makes my knees hurt. And also my husband calls my knees USA colors. It's summertime and I'm wearing jeans because of my knees are all different colors, red, white, blue, purple, and then it hurts like hell to wear these. I don't know what I got, all I know is I'm tired of it. What did I do that was so bad besides work all my life, raise a family with grandkids and then have knee surgery and get stuck with this crap? RSD, what the heck is that? And now they call it RCPD/RSD. But I would sure love a true reply, preferably/maybe from a doctor. I have to live in a state that does not believe in medicinal marijuana. So can't go that route. So, I ask you what in the hell do I do? Cuz I've had it.....my hands, fingers and wrist have arthritis in those areas. I had some good quality of life before I moved to this god-forsaken state. I was able to actually go shopping once a week, now I'm at home ordering on my laptop. I can barely stand to take a shower. And that I used to take two a day, I just can't even get 1 in, in 3 days. My husband helps me a lot with that area, sometimes I think he likes it but anyways I had to say something right? So if anybody can help me out there please please reply. I'm fighting for my life here so someone please either find out or get back with me about what to do besides laying here in a bed or couch with hours going by getting bigger and bigger. I am so sick of looking at myself. I just have no self-esteem whatsoever. I feel like nothing. I feel like I don't exist. I feel like I have already died and gone to wherever they send you, I hope heaven. Anyways sorry for my novel here. God bless each of you who suffer with pain that comes with a name that doctors know already that it's so painful. Having a baby was a breeze, and I had a natural childbirth. So, I've been there, I felt the pain and now I'm feeling the pain 24/7 for the rest of my life because they have no cure for it. God bless you all...prayers for the real suffers. I still would like an answer of why they felt it was necessary to take out people that actually need their meds, and take them as it says on the bottle.

Re: Miles of Pain (# 874) Expand Referenced Message

My heart goes out to you. From what I've been hearing you are not alone in this. My daughter has a friend whose doctor did the same thing and they wound up having to put her right back up to where she was because she couldn't deal with the pain and it was affecting other parts of her health such as blood pressure, etc.

I'm glad you brought this topic up because it seems like it's been awhile since I've seen any solutions. My oldest daughter right now who suffers from severe fibromyalgia and some sort of other autoimmune problems was taken off of her pain medication because a nurse lied and said that she was threatened by my daughter. My daughter demanded that the recordings were listen to and no one ever got back to her. I have a feeling that the doctor was finding any excuse to dump her pain patients. I have been on pain meds since 2008 4 excruciating back pain that radiates down both legs and arthritis and all of my joints from neck to feet. If you're gaining weight and can't get out of bed I think that the doctor needs to revisit and if they're doing their job would revisit your pain medicine dosage. I understand that you're afraid to rock the boat because maybe they'll take them away but if you're that miserable and your life has gone to crap like that I think perhaps you could take an advocate with you that can vouch for the ins-and-outs of your daily life. Someone credible that the doctor might Listen to. I know it helped me once a few years ago when I needed something stronger.

I wish you and your husband the very best and I hope your situation with pain is resolved sooner than later.

You have to get the real cbd from a marijuana store and the cbd with thc works the best. I bought from 2 different cbd oil companies online and they were a rip off, and did nothing. I have the vape pen and it works great.

I do believe it's all to do with money like most everything is nowadays. Pharmacies are ordering the cheapest narcotics they can find. I have had same doctor and use a mom and pop pharmacy for years. I follow all my doctors referrals for specialists MRI, etc. I have legitimate reason for my chronic pain. I need it to b able to work as I support my household. I went to college for 5 yrs. And became a occupational therapist. I take oxycodone 10mg 4xday and oxycontin time release 20mg 3xday. I have to call my pharmacy to have them order the only generic that works. It shouldn't be this way. My doctor is fed up as he has to fill out more paperwork. He knows me better than anyone as I talk to him every month. I am moving to Palm beach county Florida and am petrified I won't get help there. What's happening? If people who need these drugs can't get them they will buy from dealers for help. It's unbelievable.

I happen to agree with you. $52.00 later, taking 10C.C'.s a day since 7/25/18 and I see zero improvement to low back pain. Maybe CBD isn't supposed to help my back. Taste is pleasant but not $52.00 worth.
