Bentyl May Be Interacting With My Hydrochlorothiazide

Hi I have been told I have ibs by a doctor recently and pre-hypertention. I wanted to know if it is normal to have some what blurred vision, extreme sleepiness and weakness from taking the Bentyl and Hydro, it's hard to distinguished which pill is causing the symptoms but I feel it may be intensifying the symptoms since I am taking 2 pills that could cause the same side effects plus I have seasonal allergies.

Hi! I've no experience w/ hydrochlorothiazide. But I have years of experience w/ dicyclomine (the generic name for Bentyl), which I sometimes take for IBS flare-ups.

When I first started taking dicyclomine, yes, I got VERY tired &/or sleepy as a side effect. It even affected by short-term memory to a small degree! I felt like a space cadet! :( It also gave me somewhat blurry vision (esp. for up-close work). Thankfully, ALL the side effects went away over time, except for the vision thing. I still get temporary blurry vision w/ dicyclomine, but I'll gladly take that over the other side effects! Hope this helps. -- Shari in California :)

Thank you so much Shari for you reply! It's such a relief to know that I wasn't going crazy or experiencing something bad. It has been well over a month now and I will admit most if not all the side effects have subsided. I guess my body had to get use to it and the blurry vision was the same for me up close especially on the computer. I thought I needed glasses at one point....lol. I just wanted to know also what are some of the ways you help manage you IBS besides Bentyl?

Another issue to be careful of, when taking Hydrocholorothiazide is dehydration, since it removes excess fluid from the body. Dehydration can cause dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, and body aches, so you need to make sure you are taking in the proper amount of fluids every day.
