Bendictin

Updated

My mom was given the drug in 1968 while she was pregnant with me. I was born with severe heart abnormalities. We found out that it was due to the drug after they filed chapter 11.
I'm 42 now and while I now have advanced heart disease I've lived a pretty normal life. I even have a 16 yr old son.
Side effects from the drug were devistating, But if your child hasn't shown symptoms by now, I'd say you are safe. Doctors have told me I can not pass this down to my son.

I hope this helps.
God Bless

I'm very sorry to hear that you have these health problems and I'm glad you are doing well.

However, in law suits/trials over Bendictin, that lasted all the way up until 1986, no scientific evidence was found to prove that it caused any type of birth defects.

While the company, Merell Dow Pharmaceuticals did pull it from the market in the U.S., because of the lawsuits, it is still used in several other countries, including Canada and they have still found no proof that it has teratogenic effects.

I have got to hand it to the moderator for the oblivious defending the agent orange producer of the pill given to expecting mothers. Clearly the only side effect suffered by ALL of the comment writers in the forum is paranoid compulsive lying and conspiring

As far as the scientific evidence or lack thereof, we will never see any justice served to the careless money hungry drug companies people, all I have found comfort in is a higher learning and understanding of homeopathic healing and holistic therapy. How can any trust be put in this medical community that find new ways every day to drug as many people as possible yet never take any responsibility for the effects.

It's nice to be a conspiracy theorist. You can just ignore evidence. Ignorance is bliss. The data on bendictin was extensive and there is no link to birth defects. If you want a conspiracy theory, how about the one where everyone is looking for their winning lottery ticket so when something bad happens it must be someone else's fault - so file suit!

My mother took medicine for morning sickness, Bendictin, in 79-80. Does anyone know if there has been any link to addiction from this medication.

Yes, I can be a statistic for addiction statistics. I started out with heroin at 17 and struggled for years. My mom took the drug prescribed but she also found the nausea was lessened by smoking pot so... I am not saying that all my issues can be blamed on the legal drug, clearly I am a lost cause but if my struggles can ever prevent another potential nauseated mom to be... Then shout I shall. Can't go back and undo what is done, only try to spread the REAL FACTS when/ where possible.

Interesting. My mom took bendictin, I suffer from addictions and I have a hole in my chest my ribs grew the wrong way. Other than the Bendictin she was very conscientious to not do anything harmful.

I have a left hand deformity and left facial paralysis, and a left eye which is blind. My mother took Bendictin (Debendox in New Zealand). I know of only one other person with similar birth deformities. He's a similar age and his mother also took the drug. I've seen reported cases which tell the same story, and Bendictin is the common thread.

To be honest, I have been working in the health care industry, and, I must say, I do question who runs the WHO. I do agree slightly there Hannah, it is disturbing what they get away with - money talks

They( Merrill) were charged in reference to Bendictin in Florida (2) two cases......awards at 20 thousand for one and the other I am not sure but I think it was millions. It was taken off the market because of two reasons...first the law suites and second the fear of the fda reopening the trial studies to see/review if they were objective or in large part containing omissions of the research which would prove their negligence. It won't be long before we are hearing about this again in the papers..it won't go so well this time for Merrill...people are more resourceful today. Try reading this farce!!
