I have been taking Benazepril 10 mg for a while, and my doctor has changed me to Lisinopril but the new dosage is 40 mg, is this dosage comparable to the Benazepril or is this an increase in dosage?

From what I can tell, it's a slight increase and the equivalent dosage would be around 25 to 35mgs, however, the switching of the medications also has to be taken under consideration.

When you stop one of these abruptly and switch to another one, even one that's still in the same class, as was done here, there can be redound effects to your blood pressure, making it climb higher, so your doctor may have increased the dosage slightly to try to help control this.

These are both ACE Inhibitors, so the side effects should be similar and may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and dry cough.

Make sure you watch for any signs of your blood pressure falling to low, though and if you experience them contact your doctor immediately, they may include: dizziness that is especially pronounced when standing or sitting up suddenly, lowered heart rate and marked drowsiness.

Are there any other comments or questions?

My dr just switched me from Benazapril 10mlg to Benazapril 20mlg. I just started the new dosage this morning. Is this a slightly higher upgrade or a big upgrade and will it cause me to have side effects because of changing the mlg? Thank you.
