Benazepril Hcl20 Mg Tablet Anm Vs Benazepril Hcl 20mg Tablet Zen

Updated

Can you explain to me if there is any difference between the two Benazepril listed above. When I was taking the one ending with Zen I had absolutely perfect BP all the time and then my last RX I recieved the one ending with AMN and my bp has gone sky high. The ZEN is a pink triangle with the code 5126 on one side and 93 on the other side. The one ending in AMN is white round with an A on one side and the other side is marked with the number 53.

They are both Benazepril, they are just manufactured by different companies, the one with the 93 5126 is manufactured by Teva and the one with the A 53 is made by Amneal.

However, there are a couple possibilities that could explain why you no longer have good blood pressure control.

The first and most likely is that you've simply grown tolerant to the medication, or this dosage of the medication and need a dosage adjustment, or need to try a different medication.

The second possibility is that there can be slight fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient from one manufacturer to another, so you may not be getting quite as much of the medication as you were in the prior tablet.

The third is that you may be sensitive to one of the inactive ingredients in the new tablet

And yet a fourth could be that other things have change in your life causing a blood pressure elevation, such as your being more stressed, your eating higher amounts of salt, getting less exercise and several other possibilities.

The best suggestion I can make in this case is that you talk to your doctor, so you can determine which option has caused the problem and find a solution.

When you say it was 'sky high' exactly how high are the readings?

Thank you for the response. Yes, there have been some changes in my life, so that I understand but in less than one week, I went from 120/60 to typical readings of 175/90 and sometimes higher. Food intake has not changed or the salt. We do not cook with salt but instead use other types of spices with nothing new or unusual for us

What changed was that I had UNFORTUNATELY been taking methadone for pain for well over a year. I did not like taking it and wanted off, so I went thru a three month process of weaning myself off the methadone by decreasing it 5mgs every two weeks. When I got down to 5mgs, I went so far as to cut that in half after two weeks and did the 2.5 mg dosage for two weeks. At that point I stopped. I did great for about three weeks, no problems, and then suddenly I was experincing my legs going CRAZY at night and insomnia. When I spoke with my doctor about it, we decided to try an OTC sleep aid. I had a negative reaction to the diphenhydramine. I stopped that immediately. The doctor then put me on Lyrica and that was when my BP went nuts! I talked with the doctor and the pharmacist and both told me the Lyrica would not cause that kind of elevation. My doctor suggested that I try to relax and allow the meds to work. That was also the point in time that I started the NEW RX that was mfg'd by Amneal. Since the tabs were different from the previous times I had refilled the RX (been taking Benazepril for two plus years) I called the pharmacy (COSTCO) for a possible explanation. They told me it was impossible for the difference in the meds to cause the rise in BP. I found a few extra of the previous RX which was mfg by Teva so I took those for three days now and my BP is down once again. I just took it after a chicken and mashed potatoe dinner and I am 120/60 which is very normal for me. I really think the new BP RX is the problem. Maybe not. I want to see a couple of days with normal pressure and then once again try the Amneal med and see what happens. I am not hysterical, just deeply concerned and I refuse to take that darn methadone ever again. No doctor will ever convince me of that unless I'm on my way off this planet! That was horrible stuff to take and get off of! My bad! Again thank you for your response! I sincerely appreciate it.

No one seems to make Teva brand. Which was perfect for for 18 yrs. Now I have AMNeal and yes by late afternoon I noticed my blood pressure slightly raised to 147/87 so I took half of old benazepril that seemed to make it work. So now I have to tell dr. And you know how that goes. Oh and I lost 8lbs on diet. But bp still was up ,hmmm!!!

I just spoke to Dan at Teva USA customer service. As of May, 2016, Teva Benazapril is listed as unavailable with no release date.
