Beline is a natural supplement, not a medication, therefore the side effect profile for it has not been studied.

They are listed as containing:

Cortex Eucommiae Ulmoides, Rhizoma Cibotium Barometz, Radix Angelica Pubescens, Radix Angelica Sinensis, Radix Astragali Membranceus, Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, Radix Paeoniae Lactiflorae, Frucus Chaenomeles Sinensis, Ramulus Cinnamomum Zeylanicum, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Rhizoma Cordalis Turtschaninovii, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Radix Rehamannia Glutinosa.

However, recent reports from testing agencies have found it to contain the undeclared drug ingredient Chlorpheniramine, which is an antihistamine.

I have been diagnosed with Ankylosing spondylitis over five years ago, although have suffered with this deliberating desease for over 25yrs. For the last five months have been taking beline capsules, initially taking the recommended two capsules a day to only one at night. They really work where other orthodox medicine fail. Although I've always been cautious and was reluctant to even try them, they do work, and work well. When I went to reorder I noticed the warning from NHSS site and stopped using them. My bodies gone haywire, I have suffered no end and no amount of medication works. This leads to my question: what really is in these capsules?

the so called anthistamine in beline ocours naturaly when made its not a pharmacuticle product like mhra are making out to be i no because i speak direct to makers of beline mhra need to look at this product as it gives you your life back instead of stuffing your self full of pain killers and other things it would save nhs and tax payers millions if they give this product to pain suffers

With respect to Stuart Hanson reply, the manufactures of beline would not exactly say they include anything harmful or detrimental to human health. Until and unless we have independent veritable evidence of what are the ingredients and in what quantity we can never be sure. I am not saying they are no good or that they don't work, they certainly do work and with incredible efficiency and potency. I would just like to know the long term side effects. One side effect is the thinning of the blood, and easily bruised.

The danish and swedish health authorities have just published results of testing on the product.

Chlorphenamine 2 mg / capsule
Piroxicam 12.5 mg / capsule
Oxetacain 4.5 mg / capsule

If the Danish was right about the test results, why have the UK's mhra not found all these claimed substances in the first place? Something fishy going on...

I might be wrong but i felt sometimes, the big companies might just wants to wipe out threats and competitions...

I would advise you to talk to your doctor about this, these are not harmless ingredients and they will do long term damage. I spoke to my doctor yesterday about this and i was told to come off them.

Beline Capsules have been tested in the UK by the MHRA and was found to contain a trace amount of chlorpheniramine. We have worked very closeley with the MHRA on this matter and they are satisfied that this was a one off contamination error. The capsules have since been retested by the MHRA and an independant UK Laboratory and both have are happy that product contains only the ingredients listed.

In regards to the recent Danish Medical Agency claims, we are currently investigating these claims as the ingredients they claim are in the capsules have never been mentioned from either the MHRA or the independant UK lab. Bit suspect that both DMA and MHRA found the exact same quantity of Chlorphenamine (2mg). Very unlikely product was tampered with imo

To all beline users why is every one trying to put this product down can any one tell me were you can find a product that can relief pain give you youf life back feel great allow you to do things that you can't do we hear of all these wonderful things that beline. All medicines come with side affects has anyone had any serios side affects of this my god look what the pill can cause but no one goes on about that surly if this product has been used in uk since 2004 we would have heard if their was side affects. Let people have choice. If they happy to take it. So let it be. There is a lot worse. Things people take every day with severe side affects does any one complain this product is incredible. All my friends take it young and old. With fab results let use chose. And stop winging

Pete, The fact that the amount of Chlorphenamine has been posted on the MHRA website since April? Also the MHRA found no trace of the claimed ingredients that the DMA claim are in the product.

Beline, not sure what point you are making, a quantity of 2.0mg is a very exact quantity that was found under both analysis. As to why the MHRA haven't found the other ingredients, I'm speculating but it depends on what analytical technique was used. NIR most likely. You can mask products to avoid detection. The danes may have used a more sensitive technique such as mass spectroscopy. I'm a retired chemist so I know what I'm talking about.

I'm also not sure how you get supply chain traceability when you only have an expiry date on your carton.

You talk about Danish verification, the analytical results have been published on their website

@Beline Capsules - can you please share more info or a link with me about the MHRA & the independent UK lab's latest resolution concerning chlorphenamine being found in a batch? Apparently I think many tries to imitate Beline. Only Beline so far is able to help with my pain. I have been taking it for more then 3 years now. I and many of my close friends still believe in them.

ReNu-Yu doesn't work! I thought it was a cheaper alternative and tried it for two months. Initially it did relieve me of the pain a little, but definitely not as effective as Beline. However, now my pain is even worse than before! I totally regretted my decision. I urge everyone to please do not even try if you are considering.
