Been On Methadone & Wellbutrin. Dr. Added Effexor. Help!

Ive been on Methadone maintenance (150 mgs) for 3 yrs now, and started taking Wellbutrin about 1 yr ago. Everything had been going great for awhile, but then the Wellbutrin seemed to stop working as well. So last week my Dr. put me on Effexor 75mg once a day. As soon as i started taking it I started feeling REALLY WEIRD. My depression seems to be better, but the side effects are freaking me out! Starting out it would give me energy, then after a while I become very lethargic; then came the restless leg when i got into bed (cant stand!). + Most of all is the sweating! I have a problem with sweating as it is (the Methadone makes it worse on its own), and now the Effexor is giving me MAJOR COLD SWEATS throughout the day! I figured it might be me withdrawing from the Wellbutrin, so I started taking it along with the Effexor. Should I just stop taking the Effexor or what? I'm at witts end!!

You cannot take the Wellbutrin and Effexor, at the same time. That could be very dangerous, because the Wellbutrin can increase the toxicity of the Effexor.

What you were likely experiencing were some withdrawal effects from stopping one, coupled with side effects from starting the new one. That is normal and will usually take a couple of weeks to go away and start improving.

Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.

Hi. Effexor gave me extreme sweats as well. Maybe ask your doctor to change to an ssri instead of the nsri (effexor). But definately don't take the wellbutin at the same time. Sometimes it takes a while to find an antidepressant that works. I went through about 5 before i found one that worked for me. Most ssri's are fine with methadone

I am going dowm 1mg a day and i take 300 of wellbutrin and the Dr added Effexor i take them both in morning i started effexor 3 days ago is it the interactions.i started on 88mgs of methadone im down to 51 and i just feel lethargic and nausea is the methadone causing me to feel this way or effexor
