Bad Reaction After Switching From Subutex To Suboxone

Updated

I was on Subutex for over a year and a half then I lost my doctor. When I found out I was pregnant he put me back on subutex. After I had my daughter he took me off subutex and put me on suboxone. Within a couple hours of the first dose my skin became red and blotchy. I couldn't stop scratching at myself so he prescribed Benadryl for an allergic reaction... I continued to take them for a month and a half.. I started getting horrible migraines and nausea, and now within an hour hour and a half of taking the pill I'll throw up.... Every time. I have spoken with my doctor about these symptoms..He tells me its not physically possible to be allergic to Suboxone and that if I'm allergic to it then I must be allergic to Subutex as well. But I never had these issues with the Subutex... He said it has to be a dye or something. I have tried strips and different kinds of pills and I'm still having the same effects. I am now having tingling sensations in my hands and feet like they are falling asleep. I don't understand if it's my circulation or what... I'm also hep c positive and it's active... I have children that depend on me. I no longer take this medication even though its prescribed bc the side effects got to the point that I couldn't function to take care of my children. My doctor will not listen. He says its physically impossible. I am struggling to find another dr. Besides I cant afford the 200 a month I keep paying for an appt for a prescription I can't physically take. My constipation is out of this world. I take regular laxatives and im still only going to the bathroom twice a week..What do I do? Help me please I need some serious advice.. I have been in tears over this. My 2 month old daughter wont even feed from me if I have the Suboxone in my system ..She latches and within minutes she is off and angry.. Its messed with my milk production and the bond I was building with my daughter... Meanwhile there is a doctor. Prescribing Subutex to people who don't even need them.. The girl wasn't even an addict and she got them prescribed for the money and the high and is now addicted to Subutex, as well as her bf.. They each get 2 a day and take a quarter a day or half and feel high or a buzz while they sell the rest of them for the money. It makes me so angry cause here I am having all sorts of issues bc I'm on a medication I'm having horrible side effects from and I can no longer breastfeed my daughter.. My liver is bad enough as it is...Ughhhh im so frustrated and sick of doctors not listening... I cannot relapse.. If I do I will die or lose my children and then die..I just cant live like this. Help me!!!!

The reaction you're experiencing is from the naloxone in the films. It's nasty s*** and I had the same problem. Here's what u need to do; get a new provider. There's millions of them out there. The reason why you're doctor is not giving you subutex anymore is because he or she believes you are displaying addictive behavior. There is a spectrum on addictive behavior and doctors have the right to discern whether or not you are. Go to another provider but don't tell the new doctor that you're old doctor believed you were displaying addictive behavior. And pray as well. Do you have Jesus in your life? There is nothing he can't do, I know, I'm living proof. The same thing happened to me. I'll pray for you.

Try Amitza for the constipation. The drs can prescribe 2 a day, which I started it and was going too much with IBS and Gastric Bypass surgery from 1995. So I went 1 a day in the AM, you usually will go within a few hrs to that day. I now only take if needed as I go thru out the day starting with a regular bowel movement. This is the first time since being a teenager that I'm regular. This is just a suggestion, as I'm also on pain meds and loads of vitamins, etc. When you start, if you can i suggest until you know how quickly it works don't go out shopping etc. It's worth a try. I don't know about the latest one they are advertising. Good luck.

Hello. I am also on subutex but I can't take the suboxone because it causes me to have migraines. Suboxone has naxolone in it as subutex does not! You very well could be allergic to the naxolone. Obviously your doctor doesn't know what he's talking about... however there are lots of suboxone doctors and I'm sure you could find someone to prescribe it for you. Good luck

Kris...i was taking suboxone and i was allergic but my problem was extreme heartburn / acid reflux. It was either the dye or the flavoring doing it so i switched to zubsolv. It tastes so much better and a lot easier on my system. I currently see Dr. Case but i knew about four drs in the indy area that give out zubsolv. I get updates on posts on here so feel free to message me.

Subutex is better and Suboxone is totally different. It has got naloxone which is a blocker that will send you into withdrawal, horrible stuff.

Kris,

I have been studying this for ten years... Putting myself on and taking myself off every form of opium... This is all it is.... Opium use... That being said.. Your problem is very simple.. Hard to see it that way.. Feels like your hanging over a ten thousand foot drop... Trust me it's only six inches.... {edited for privacy}. I'll walk u right out of this seemingly endless trap... It's not.. The door is right there... Tip... Your taking way too much buprenorphine... Let me help you.. Six inches I promise all you have to do is let go

Doctors are now taught to jump to the conclusion that complaint equals addictive behavior; that you are trying to talk him/her into giving you something you don't need. I've hit this before and it makes me furious, it's belittling and humiliating to be brushed aside like this, addict or not. Find another doctor. Easier said than done, I know. I was extensively repaired with titanium rods screws bolts wire and a plate. Turns out I'm allergic to titanium, very, extremely, rare but it happens. Yes, blocked lymph glands stripped and filled with particles. Diagnosed, medical proof. I've had docs laugh in my face until I presented them with reports & all the studies done and papers published on my behalf. Keep notes, keep copies of your records, find a doc who doesn't label you addict before you open your mouth. You have more important things to care about in your life. They will take your hope and joy away if you let them. Don't let them.

I have to agree with Shane, some people are allergic to the Naloxone in Suboxone and can only take Subutex, since it doesn't contain the Naloxone, rather is just has Buprenoprhine. Although, I have to say that their preferring to prescribe Suboxone does not necessarily denote someone's showing addictive behavior. The DEA put out new directives that tell doctors to only prescribe Subutex for pregnant women, unless they are allergic to and it must be a documented allergy.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

Have you ever been allergic to any other medications?

If my ears ringing mean that I'm allergic to it then yes. However the subutex helps more but there is a way to erase the naloxone by soaking the film in hot water and pouring the water down your nose.I have to resort to that because the doctor won't give me subutex.

I have done that if my stash is getting low..about 1/8 of a strip nasal is about the same as a whole strip orally. Im sure most on here understand capillaries in the nose are closer together and to the surface which means more absorption. Prob is trying to not let it run down ur throat. If it just goes in ur nose and down ur throat u might as well just eat it...

All i can say is your doc is stupid! If your are expecting a baby.. There is no way in hell you should be on suboxin you should be on subutex .the nyloxin in the suboxin is harmful to the unborn child any doc should know that unless its one of them half ass doctors who bairly know there ass from a hole n the ground and and just are in it for the cash. If i was you i would find a diffrent. And tell the doc you have now to do some research cause he has it all ass backwords.id pergo and on suboxin you need to switch to subutex till your child is born..

Get off the suboxine and find a new dr that'll help you! That doctor obviously doesn't know what he's doing! Some just do it for the money and are by the text books only.
