My mom83 started bactrim sulfameth/trimethoprim two days ago and is so exhausted weak upset stomach seeing guys on the roof hallucinations no appetite....think she should stop and take another rx for her bladder infection....what is a better drug? this is an allergic reaction, no? side efeects that seem disabling to me..... ## Bactrim does have what I would call "disabling" side effects, but I don't think that this is an allergic reaction, unless she is experiencing severe swelling or rashes of some kind. Hallucinations are reportedly a general severe side effect of this antibiotic, as is weakness and fatigue, among a large list of other possible side effects. That said, I do agree with you and strongly recommend looking into other antibiotics for a UTI. Macrobid (nitrofuran...

Hello there sick ones...I started taking bactrim yesterday afternoon b/c i contracted a case of cellulitis on my ear. Ew. So anyway, I was just wondering...does this medicine make you feel like s*** before it helps you get better or what? I ask b/c the pain that im feeling is more or less just a really really uncomfortable healing feeling i guess. Maybe it's just workin hard at killin the bacteria so thats why it makes you sore. I haven't had any of those other side effects like the rashes people have posted about. I get a slight itching on my skin but i just see that as the medicine working. This pill is powerful thats probly why it makes us feel like s***, but at least you can get a sense that after taking it, you're original problem hopefully goes away. I'm gonna go t...

I began taking this medication on Tuesday. I understand it is the generic versions of Bactrim. I immediately felt a relief in the congestion and went on to take the 2nd and 3rd dose on Wednesday. While sleeping, I awoke with cramps up and down my thighs and calf. To say the least, that was a sleepless night. I telephoned my doctor the next day, on Thursday, to question with this could be a side affect of the drug. He did not believe so. By mid-day on Thursday, I could not stand in one spot for more than a minute. My legs and feet began to ache and forced me to sit. I have been in excrutiating pain. I returned to my Doctor on Friday and he suggested I stop the medication. I went directly to the Emergency to get a blood analysis. Everything came back fine. Again the doctor in the hospital...

Pill imprint H 49 has been identified as Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim 800 mg / 160 mg, is this the same as the pill IP 272? I ask because I have been using the IP 272 pill for 7 years, and my pharmacy just filled it with the H 49 version. Same strength? same drug? Please advise ## Yes, they both contain the same medications in the same dosages. It is completely normal for your pharmacy to switch which manufacturers product they have on hand, depending on who was offering the cheapest price, at the time they needed to restock their supply. Are there any other questions or comments?

Will a seven day dose work. I went to Mexico to buy it and the box only has 14 and the dosage is for 1 every 12 hours. ## The dosing schedule for this drug is largely dependent on the severity of the type of infection you may be dealing with. For example: The usual adult dosage in the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis is 1 Bactrim DS (double strength) tablet or 2 Bactrim tablets every 12 hours for 14 days. For the treatment of traveler's diarrhea, the usual adult dosage is 1 Bactrim DS (double strength) tablet or 2 Bactrim tablets every 12 hours for 5 days. The recommended dosage for patients with documented Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia is 75 to 100 mg/kg sulfamethoxazole and 15 to 20 mg/kg trimethoprim per 24 hours given in equally divided doses every 6 hours...

can I take an over the counter sleep aid while taking sulfameth? ## It would really depend on the specific sleep aid and what it contains. Can you post back with more details, such as the one you usually use? Does D.P.H Syrup have Bacterium? ## This medication does not contain any Bacterium (bacteria); this is assuming that you meant to say "Bacterium" and not the drug "Bactrim". But it does not contain either of these. D.P.H syrup contains the active ingredient Diphenhydramine, which is an over-the-counter antihistamine used for the treatment of allergies and sometimes as a sleep aid. I had surgery on both feet to remove lypomas on Jan. 19. 1 foot was healing very slowly. Dr. thought I may have staph - did a culture. It came back no staph or infection. Said I have skin flora. Dr. put me on this antibiotic as a precaution b/c this Wed. he is going to do a "scrub" on 1 foot to enable new skin to grow back. I took med. for 7 days ( 1 twice a day.) He ordered a refill. I took 2 pills of the refill & work up with a severe rash resembling measels. I have no itching. The last pill I took was Thursday a.m. Dr. put me on benadryl gel caps every 4 hrs. Problem is that when I woke up this morning (Sat.) the rask had gotten much worse & spread to my entire body. I have been running 101 - 102 fever for 2 days now. I was given Bactrim for a mild bladder infection. Nearly died. I went into kidney failure and my body quit making blood. I only had 7 pints left by the time I got to the hospital. I am now in chronic kidney failure with about 40% kidney function. I would recommend taking anything else, as you just do not know how it will affect your body.
