My father aged 70 years underwent angioplasty in the left artery in the year 2000 and operated for intestine ulcer in the year 2005. He is now under medication for his heart problem and he is doing well with that. 6 months back, when he attempted doing some house hold work with his left hand, he started suffering pain in the left arm. Slowly, the pain aggravated and started shoulder pain. We consulted orthopaedic doctor and he suggested physiotherapy. He continued it for two months but situation worsened, left hand almost paralysed and problem spread to right hand also but with right hand minimum functioning. Then we consulted a neurophysician. After thorough medical examination with all possible tests conducted, he said there are no significant problems except the ones comes with the age and suggested physiotherapy for the hands with a medication of Azoran 50 mg and Corcal 250 mg for 20 days. 20 days passed in vain. Please suggest.

Hello,

Based on my research, Azoran contains azathioprine; which is used alone or in combination with other immunosuppressive therapy to prevent rejection following organ transplantation, and to treat an array of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, pemphigus, systemic lupus erythematosus, Behçet's disease (and other forms of vasculitis), autoimmune hepatitis, atopic dermatitis, myasthenia gravis, neuromyelitis optica (Devic's disease), restrictive lung disease, and others.[4] It is also an important therapy and steroid-sparing agent for inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and for multiple sclerosis,

Side effects:

Nausea and vomiting are common adverse effects, especially at the beginning of a treatment. Such cases are met with taking azathioprine after meals or transient intravenous administration. Side effects that are probably hypersensitivity reactions include dizziness, diarrhea, fatigue, and skin rashes. Hair loss is often seen in transplant patients receiving the drug, but rarely occurs under other indications. Because azathioprine suppresses the bone marrow, patients can develop anaemia and will be more susceptible to infection; regular monitoring of the blood count is recommended during treatment. Acute pancreatitis can also occur, especially in patients with Crohn's disease

You can learn more about this drug on the page for Azathioprine Details

I hope this information helps!

Am 42 years old male, in feb 2014 i.e.5 months back i was diagnosed with AIHA-autoimmune haemolitic anemia with haemoglobin count of 6 and dr started with prednisalone of 80 mg and then tapered down by 70,60,50,40,30,20 based on increase in blood count to 10.5..but when he tapered the prednisalone to 10 mg and 5 mg in last 2 months the haemoglobin count got reduced to 9.5 and 8.5 levels in last 2, months..Hence,I consulted specialist haematologist on 12th july and I have undergone bone marrow test and I have been advised to take 20 mg of prednisalone and azoran 50 mg morn and 50 mg by night after food for next one month and then meet the Dr on 19th aug 2014..Dr is unable to state the root cause for this aiha problem at this point of time after various blood tests/bone marrow test..pls advise,if my treatment and current medication for my aiha problem is OK and how long I need to be on such immunu sup present steroids I.e.prednisalone/azoran....is there any other mild medicines available to avoid side effects because am putting on weight, but as of now I do not have vomiting/ dizziness or any other side effects...pls advise.

Hi, I was having pain on left lower abdominal part, when area pressed, colonoscopy done small patches of 0.5 mm diameter ulcers are noticed.
Doctors started with fallowing medicine.
Budez cr.. Cap.. Twice a day.
Rowsa 1mg sachet.. Twice day
Azoran 50 mg tab.. Twice day
For six months, no adverse effects except hair loss and fatigue.. There is relief observed but not 100%.

Finally doctor doctor asked to continue only Rowsa 1 mg sachet for two months with vitamin 12 injection every month.

Now after almost one I have stopped all medications, It seems the deasse is back,.
Please advise any alternative.
