Azmacort has been taken off the market because of environmental concerns (they say). There really is NO substitute. All other steroids do not work. My wife could die because of it. No one seems to care. Do you? ## Jack, so sorry to hear about the impact that Abbott's decision is having on your wife. It is sad that companies can create products which help individuals (and make individuals rely on them) and then just make such a decision to withhold it on a whim. Surely something can be done about this. I'd start by contacting Abbott and/or consulting with an attorney to see what can be done. Has her doctor recommended any substitutes yet? Over 15yrs.ago, I was taken off Theodur and introduce to Azmacort. And oow what a relief it is. I was able to do more than walk. I was able to jog from 3 to 5miles a day without the exercise induced asthma. The cold air in the winter no longer collaped my lunges when going out to jog. Now its all down hill. Gone is the jogging and I use to participate in the Senior Olympics. Someone goofed. Bad decision. I tried all other medications to no avail. I was on Azmacort for 20 years, and now am forced to take Symbicort or Advair which both contain LABA and have been causing some asthma related deaths. Neither one control my asthma like azmacort did. It is a sad story that they have out-lawed CFC inhalers because they harm the environment. Actually, it's quite a laughable situation when it come right down to it. A very survival of the fittest law, I do believe, because hundreds of thousands of people are suffering. The HFA inhalers are a joke and one has no real rescue inhalers. I'm sure it all comes down to the good old mighty dollar which is always at the expense of human life or human quality of life. My husband had been on Azmacort since 1987. His condition before Azmacort was guarded at best. With Azmacort, he was able to live an active life traveling world-wide space available (22 year AF retiree). When we moved away from our Dr. to a retirement center, the new Dr. we found immediately tried to put him on any or all of the Hollywood drugs but we refused. In June, our mail-order pharmacy told us it is no longer being manufactured. We were forced to experiment with Advair, Duoneb-Combivent, Symbicort, etc and he has been in steady decline in health with more episodes requiring prednisone (very hard on him) and antibiotics. We are using Mucinex daily, pocket inhaler of Proventil in multiple puffs and multiple treatments. Today I was going to try to get Azmacort online when I learned ...

I have been on Azmacort for 17 years along with Serevent disc. I have breathed free for this whole time minus when I had a cold. I have not used my rescue inhaler in years. Since I have been off the Azmacort and trying other meds I have been miserable. I use ny rescue inhaler 6-8 times a day. Asmanex gave me headaches, Pulmicort was terrible and Advair didn't work either. We have a huge deductable so everytime I try another inhaler, it comes out of pocket. I have also tried Singulair and Zyrtec, but I was so tired I couldn't function. I want Azmacort back. My Asthma was under control for all these years and now I am struggling daily. I wil definitely call the company.

Where can I purchase Azmacort? I live midtown Manhattan and having difficulty finding this drug. I understand the manufacturer has discontinued it but I also understand it is still available (somewhere) thru to the end of 2010. But where??? ## It really isn't that it's available through the end of the year, it's that it would be available until current supplies run out. Thus, I have to conclude that most pharmacies in your area have exhausted their stock. Have you tried speaking to your doctor about an alternative?
