I think it's an odd thing for doctor's/pharmacies to start implementing. Especially since there are individuals with allergies to Naloxone, who just can't take Suboxone. I've yet to come across any specific details about this new policy, but something else I find interesting is that Actavis recently came out with a new orange Subutex tablet (153 imprint w/ a half moon logo) that I'm sure wouldn't have been prescribed to patients within the past month only to be switched to Suboxone '30 days later'? Something about that just doesn't seem right. I realize big pharma doesn't necessarily have our best interest in mind as patients/consumers and our well-being, so I guess it wouldn't come as a huge surprise if they did end up pulling this stunt on new & pre-existing Subutex patients. I'd just double check with your doctor/(local) pharmacy though to be on the safe side.

My doctor just told me today that as of July 1st that I will have to be switched from subutex unless I am allergic to the naloxone. This is terrible. I told him suboxone gives me headaches but he just said he has something else I can try. I'm happy with the subutex, it has been great. Idon't think about doing pills anymore or anything and then the law wants to come in and just mess every thing up. Not to mention how much those costs.

this is very discouraging to hear. i absolutely could NOT take suboxone. i had a horrible stomach ache and nausea the ENTIRE time i was on it. these stomach problems went away as soon as i was switched to subutex.

The new law states a patient must be pregnant, nursing, or have a DOCUMENTED hypersensitivity reaction to naloxone..ie, copy of the report from the emergency room..Generally side effects like headaches, stomach upset, dizziness are related to a dosage that is too high or other opiates haven't completely cleared your system yet, and will pass over a week to 10 days. There are also other meds that can be prescribed to get rid of nausea...Best wishes in recovery!!

ya i already had documented stomach issues before i ever took it. so my doc knew i couldnt take the naloxone. he didnt even question it. i am not on it anymore (on 70 mgs of methadone tablets thru private physician) so good luck to those of you for whom this is an issue. get some documentation of any stomach or migraine issues you have!

So what I'd your primary care doctor writes something stating that you can't take the suboxone because you to breakout and itch. Will that work?

A letter from your Primary care Doc may work as long as it states they feel a better option for you is the Bupe without Naloxone and the reason why......... Best Wishes!

Thank you RCVRYDOC. I have never been prescribed suboxone but every time I got it on the streets I didn't react to it very well at all. It always made me breakout in a rash and itch really bad. I never went to the ER for it because I was using it without a scrip. I told my primary care doctor about it I told her that I could let them switch me and prove it to her but she said that she doesn't want anyone to have a bad reaction just to prove it. Thank you for your help.

Janet, I empathize with what you're dealing with re:pharmacists in Ohio. Unfortunately, you'll get the same treatment from every pharmacy in the USA. It is a constant stressor filling your monthly prescription, yes? Just thinking about the years and years I dealt with that makes my stomach do flips. There was one Ohio pharmacist I felt respected by in 15 years of filling a monthly script for narcotic pain meds. ASK YOUR DR OR THE NURSE TO PLEASE ASSIST YOU IN FINDING A NEW PHARMACY. Having the nurse or dr call the pharmacy in advance to just make sure they have the medication in stock could be your salvation in this. Let us know how that works out for you!

thats crazy. have you talked to your doctor? what prescriptions you can or cant have should be absolutely, 100% up to your DOCTOR, not the pharmacies. i have never once heard of a pharmacy making these decisions. in fact, i dont even think thats LEGAL....please talk to your doctor IMMEDIATELY!!!

It's legal alright. Check your state pharmacy board's website. Pharmacists can ask for and receive your diagnosis, dx code PLUS a history of the illness from the Dr before they have to fill a script. The pharmacist can lie to you about whether they have enough medicine to fill your script in stock of they don't like what you're wearing or the scent you spritzed on that mornin.

wow, that seems wrong. either way, you need to talk to your doctor. he/she should be the last word on what meds you get. if the doctor deems it medically necessary for you to keep getting the subutex, then he/she can tell them. i switched from subutex to methadone tablets before all these changes, but there is no way i could have taken suboxone (already tried). my doc would have made sure i got what i needed regardless of what some pharmacy tech said; hopefully yours will too.

This is absolutely NOT true. In the states of KY, WV and OH, I believe, a state law has been passed that is similar, but on a national level, no such law exists. I am a 36 year old male, am not pregnant or breastfeeding, and have no documented sensitivity or allergy to naloxone, yet I am precribed 20mgs per day of generic subutex from a MA doctor, which I fill at a NH pharmacy. If this were true, MA is one of the more tightly regulated states regarding RX drugs and I would have found out by now. My doctor said it is not true, some states did this but not many. It all depends on how badly brainwashed the doctors on a particular states Board of Medicine have been by Reckit Benkiser into beleiving that naloxone actually does smething. In W.V, they are so brainwashed that all that is allowed is Suboxone brand film, for some reason W.V thinks generic bupe/naloxone is more dangerous than brand name. Once again, there is no law as stated above.

Yes in Tennessee as of July 1 2015if you were taking Subutex you got swapped to suboxone. It just depends on what state you live in. If you live in a state that did not pass this law then it will not affect you.

TN was the first state to pass the no subutex laws, there are a few methadone clinics in TN, one in Knoxville DRD, one in Chattanooga , Volunteer methadone clinic. These places still give out subutex but it's very $$$$$. After TN was the first to pull subutex on 7-1-2015 only a handful of other states have joined them. I hate to say it but it's either suboxone or methadone. You have to prove to a dr. You cannot take suboxone or you will not get subutex. I hate it I go to volunteer clinic and was ready to finally switch over to subutex, but I'm scared now. Even though the clinic says it's not getting rid of it if a new law came in and ordered methadone clinic to take subutex out, they would have to. Good luck

Yeah, it's BS. I live in TN been on subutex for 1 1/2 years and it's worked wonders for me, but yesterday my doc informed me I have to switch to either suboxone strips, zubsolv, or bunaval. Even though I told him naloxone makes me very sick. It's almost not even worth it now might as well get back on drugs

Brandon, I'm just about speechless over your post! I mean I have no suggestions for a remedy to your situation and I'm just so sorry and frustrated over our "Democratic" system which feels a lot more like a Dictatorship than anything I've experienced in 50 years in this country. It's sickening how a group of people, not physicians, can dictate to the medical profession and citizens what medications they can and can't prescribe for the patient! Everyone is individual and unique. Only the personal physician knows what's best for their patient. Our creator put Botanicals on this earth to help remedy most illness, physical or mental. Isn't it ironic that the rulers of our country (and others) have made most medicinal Botanicals illegal yet allowed alcohol which causes one of the most deadly addictions known to man run rampant. How many drivers under the influence of pot or opioid pain medicine cause fatal automobile crashes or hit and runs? Adding insult to injury, so many people are left without proper medical care, many turn to the street for relief. One never knows the purity or what's really in those substances. That causes overdose deaths. In the small town I live, overdose deaths have risen by 200% .200% more deaths in 2014-15 than any other year in recorded history. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU GOVERNOR?

Re: RCVRYDoc (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Sorry but this comment is wrong, I am receiving subutex 8mg lol I’m a dude not pregnant and don’t have any documentation of hypersensitive issues. I was getting headaches from the suboxone but this is 10 yes since I started the program and just recently switched to subutex.. the orange Teva actavis moons. seem to work a lot better. Don’t feel sick 24/7 like I did on sub, constantly nauseous on suboxone, moody, depressing, felt like crap when it was hot out, took forever to melt, felt drugged out in a bad way all day just yuck I can’t imagine going back to that suboxone..but this is all bs just tell your doc if your getting headaches that are messing with your quality of life and he or she should accommodate you if not get a better doc

RCVRYDoc...please help. I just moved to Florida from Tennessee. I have been on suboxone through a clinic for about 4 months now. I cannot seen to find a doctor here that I can get an appointment with quick. I do have an appointment with one but that is 2 weeks away. I've already been without for about 5 days and am extremely sick and I can't imagine doing without for 2 more weeks. Please, please help me!

I also live in Johnson City, Tennessee but I get my Subutex just fine your doctor has to write on the script *****allergic reaction to Nalaxone or you get suboxone. State Law states max quantity of Subutex is two 8mg tablets per day 60 per mo. It is crazy my insurance will cover 150 yet I can only get 60

LAUREN: I know how you feel. I am a chronic nausea and a migraine sufferer, and the Naloxone made both of those so much worse. I didn't understand all this when I started on Suboxone, and I was miserable for a week. Like "couldn't work" miserable. Then my doc switched me over to Subutex and about 2 days letter I was back to normal. I am glad I no longer took Subutex when they started making people go back to Suboxone exclusively.

I started on Suboxone about 6yrs. ago, but it gave me headaches to be followed with horrible migraines. I switched to Subutex and could not believe how much better I felt. I finally felt normal. Now I am being told that the state is saying that only Suboxone can be prescribed because people are abusing the Subutex. Why should I suffer because someone is stupid enough to abuse a drug that does not make you feel high? I read a statement from the Federal Registry and it says that Subutex is on some list of 'don't use' blaa blaa blaa, however, it stated that it has not been removed because of being dangerous. My current Dr. did say that unless you are pregnant or have an allergic reaction, no more Subutex. I am going to see what my primary care physician can do as far as writing something about my migraines and that it, the Subutex is the better option for me, unless they all just want me to go back to being a drug addict. I am not going to live my life miserable with headaches. I refuse. I will stop taking the crap before I switch back to Suboxone. I hated taking it and at the time did not realize there was another option, the Subutex. This whole thing is a bunch of BS. I am still missing the boat on abusing either of them. They do not make you feel high and there is a ceiling limit on both of them. If you want to feel high go back to real drugs and stop ruining it for the rest of us who would like to lead normal productive lives, which Subutex allows us to do. I am frustrated and a bit freaked out. Good luck to all.

In ohio subtext is very rare the hand our suboxne strips 60 a month. I have been on these strips for almost a year now, it has done wonders for me and my life is much better. To all the people that have to change over naloxen might not be comfortable or react great to your body at first but over time ur body will get use to it and u will see the difference. If your serious about recovery anything is better then whatever opiate u was addicted too.I have been on zubsolv, subtext, and suboxne it's a no brainer for me suboxne is better then any of them.

I was also told this and forced to switch last week even though the nalaxone makes my stomach upset as well. On top of that the stuff seems very weak to me, almost to the point where it feels like I'm taking NOTHING at all rt now! So idk where to go from here. I'm calling my Dr and seeing if they'll switch me back, if not I'm not sure what I'll do. This is switching from 2 8mg subutex to 2 5.7 mg Zubsolv per day. It might work for some ppl but definitely not for me.

Ok so here in NC u can only get subutex if your pregnant or breastfeeding but when I started the sub clinic in Lexington NC last year in Feb 2014 I had a 6 wk old at home and was breastfeeding. The counselor informed me I had to be willing to stop breastfeeding BC they would not prescribe me subutex. WTF? Anyways I later found out there were girls there that were pregnant that got subutex. I actually detoxed off of methadone while I was pregnant. I didn't want my baby detoxing off of it. Well now a yr and abhalf later I still take suboxone but would rather take subutex. My husband just jot into a clinic here that doesn't take INS and he gets subutex. It is a cash only Dr. In pretty sure the only way he gets away with it is BC he doesn't accept INS BC of all the legal stuff that comes along with filing the bills with the INS Co...via counseling sessions, etc. But he actually will prescribe anyone subutex u just have to pay cash but its not that expensive like $175/mth for visit we just need help with prescription BC it doesn't seem any pharmacies want to accept discount cards for subutex and even the Dr doesn't have coupons for subutex. I've printed several off web but none of them work. Any suggestions?
