Hi Nicole,

From the looks of it, you seem to be the first person to post about this specific medication here on MedsChat. But in terms of reviews, the FDA approved Aptiom back in 2013 based on three large clinical trials, including over 1,400 people who've been living with partial-onset seizures.

According to these studies, Aptiom reportedly demonstrated a statistically significant reduction (of up to 50% or more) in standardized seizure frequency from where patients were prior to treatment. This is compared to a 22% reduction in patients who received a placebo.

Based on this information alone, Aptiom sounds like a viable treatment option in my opinion. However, one must also consider pros and cons when it comes to the risk of undesirable side effects and whether or not those risk factors outweigh its potential benefits.

The most common side effects reported from patients who received Aptiom in clinical trials were allegedly a variation of dizziness + drowsiness + nausea + vomiting + headache + changes in vision + fatigue + loss of coordination. But on the other hand, it's also possible that you may not experience any of these at all. Only time will tell.

Does anyone else have feedback from personal experience?

I was on 1600/mg of Tegretol, I'm 5'4 and weigh 98lbs. My neurologist at that time was the worst. I was having up to 4 seizures a day on Tegretol. I saw a new Neurologist and was started on Aptiom. MIRACLE drug for me. I take 200/mg in am and 800/mg before bed. My vision is affected but we are hoping that will wear off. This drug has made a world of difference and I feel like I have my life back. I still have seizures, but not nearly as many as i was. Good luck to you.

Yes, I am the caretaker of my brother who has several breakthrough seizures on phenobarbital and Keppra. His new neurologist Dr. Choudary took him off, phenobarbital and replaced it with Aptiom 400 mg. Seizures stopped. He, started having a few after about a month and the doctor titrated him up to 600 mg. So far it has been perfect. Excellent medication.
