Anybody Used Cytisine

Updated

Has anybody used Cytisine to give up smoking, is it an anti depressent, doesn't sound as 'natural' as it was made out to be. Side effects?

Cytisine, also known as baptitoxine and sophorine, is a toxic alkaloid that occurs naturally in several plant genera, such as Laburnum and Cytisus. It is said to have a mechanism of action similar to the effect of nicotine, but with rather low toxicity. It can substitute nicotine substance.

I actually came across a pretty informative article on Cytisine, explaining where it comes from, what side effects to expect and so forth. You can view it by following the link below:
usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/health/story/health/story/2011-10-01/Study-Cheap-drug-helps-smokers-quit/50619634/1

I don't think it's quite as natural as it's made out to be, mostly because of how it's being marketed. And who knows what other ingredients might be put with it in tablet form.

I hope this info helps!

No, it isn't an antidepressant.

It's actually a naturally occurring toxic alkaloid that binds to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor.

Learn more Cytisine details here.

Side effects occur if you take too much and can interfere with breathing and cause death.

It's also not as effective as the other smoking cessation options that are available.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I smoked more than half my life ..bout 17 years..I was very very skeptical about quit for good strips..however they offer guarantee. ..so I cant lose. I bought some for me and my wife.. after a couple days I felt them working. .my wife complained they were doing nothing.we stuck to the instructions. On the fifth day it felt like we were smoking just fir the fun of it because we didn't feel like one. . after 6 days we both stopped smoking all together..no cravings whatsoever. I feel great she is loving it..its been around a month now and feel like I never smoked as far as urges and cravings go...and to top it off I only used half the strips the gave me...

Hi Maureen, my name is Eureke and I am a research consultant for a pharmaceutical company that only offers natural products in South Africa. We are currently very interested in Cytisine for the treatment of smoking cessation and would like to enquire which company you got it from in an oral strip. We just found a wide range of other products available in oral strip form and think this would be a massive success. If you could just let me know the company details I would greatly appreciate it!

I think it was called Quit for life. There was an advertisement on the radio a while back.

The oral strips work, but what I would really like to know is the contents of these strips, we know there is 1mg of Cytisine, but what other components? We wean ourselves off this medication, has anybody had withdrawals, such as, twitching during sleep, clenching of fists and hands, irregular heart beat????

I took pills tabex, and it worked like a magic. The only reason for all negative proffesional attitude is because its price is about 5 pack of cigarrets. And again pharmceutical hobby will never, ever allowed dustribution in America.

I'm currently on day 6 of the tabex regimen. I noticed that cigarette's didn't have the same effect almost immediately and mentally told myself they were "useless make you smell like crap sticks" every time I had one. I'm not sure if that was a placebo effect or not, but it really helped me get into the right mindset to quit. I didn't notice much of a reduction in withdrawal symptoms, I've had a rough couple days, but I've been smoke free for 3 days now (quit on day 3).

Along with tabex, I've found it helpful to work out every day and have a routine of self-hypnosis that helps with the mental aspect of quitting A LOT. This strategy, along with going through sites like this have really been helpful, and I'm confident I will successfully quit this stupid habit once and for good.

Good luck to everyone in the same, lousy boat.

It is a naturally occurring alkaloid. Research all alkaloids, and anything that is from nature. A little might be good, a lot will kill you. This is rule number one in my book. We all know this from over-the-counter pain meds. Cytisine is no different.

Tabex is an incredible medication. It works better than Chantix, and, unlike Chantix, actually weans you from both smoking and the medication itself, whereas Chantix is all about getting you addicted to Chantix.

Should you take it? That's something you should decide. This is an over-the-counter drug in Poland, and many other European countries. It's been out for over fifty years. That said, I'm a healthy adult male, who, when taking Tabex, take no other medication. If you have health problems, or take other meds (possible drug interactions), I would avoid it, just because you don't know.

Have you ever quit smoking cold-turkey? What are the side-effects? What are the side-effects of Chantix? Tabex is great, but it isn't magic. You should expect some very mild side-effects, which I would associate with quitting smoking in general (think of all the toxins your body is used to receiving, and now it doesn't get them anymore). For me personally, every time I take a step down in the medication program (like 6 pills a day to 5, or 5 to 4, etc), I notice some insomnia the first night, and increased anxiety.

Nicotine incredibly stimulates dopamine. Dopamine is a big deal. Smokers, in terms of dopamine receptors and dopamine activity are like flying at 40,000 ft. It's a very hard process to get your brain chemistry slowly back down to the ground. Tabex can help with that.

As has been mentioned before, the best thing I've experienced, is that after a few days, smoking seems absolutely pointless. Cytisine binds your nicotine receptors much more strongly than nicotine does. When you smoke (in the first five days of Tabex), you can't smell it the same, and it does nothing to you... it makes you realize how pointless smoking is.

Someone above doubts the efficacy. I think this is nonsense, and it's most likely due to no modern studies being done on Tabex. A huge problem with any medication is patient compliance (patient's actually taking their medications correctly). Tabex can be confusing. 1 pill every 2 hrs (6 per day), then 1 pill every 2.5 hours (5 per day), etc. This schedule is complicated to get used to. And guess what, if you start missing doses, especially early on... you're going to get a smoking craving.

It is truly sad, but if the US healthcare system was actually interested in getting people to quit smoking, they would study Cytisine. But they won't, because there's no money in it. A complete regimen is about $30.

Started Tabex today. Have to stop smoking asap. Had 4 tablets so far w/2 more to go today. Smoking less cz not interested. Difficulty/Labored breathing started after 3rd dose, and continuing. Little disoriented, some lethargy and pressure in head. Very concerned about breathing! Tried Chantix & can't take. If I can't take this, Wellbutrin is next. Thinking about stopping immediately due to breathing prob. It's the weekend, and can't reach doc. :/

Hi, I use Tabex, derived from Cytisine. It works to help me quit smoking, although i havent been able to successfully ween myself off of Tabex completely, yet. It could be bc i actually enjoy smoking occasionally or because i have been injured and not able to be as active as i like to be. But either way, I like the pill and there are no issues with me, as far as adverse side effects. I dont have weird dreams or feel depressed or anxious. I also dont have a desiere to smoke, so thats good. Cheers

I have tried cytisine and nicotine. Cytisine is much superior. It removes cravings for nicotine but does not cause addiction. Using nicorette gum it is very easy to get addicted to it, and it is virtually impossible to cut the dosage down if you get hooked. Then the only way is to start cytisine. It helps you to stop nicotine. You do not even have to use the whole 25 day cure, a few days helps to stop nicorette. Cytisine is more effective than nicotine replacement therapy, much cheaper, not addictive, no adverse effects on me at least, safe. The reason many try to ignore it may be not invented here phenomenon.

I used it a few months ago and I found it the easiest way to give up smoking.......tried everything else...champix, patches, gum, hypnosis. The surprising thing was I was always afraid of putting on lots of weight but using cytisine I actually lost weight. Cravings for sugar and high fat foods were replaced by such an amazing feeling of well being. ....no junk required here. Body aches and pains also went.... can recommend this product highly enough.

I have taken welbutrin - chantix - nicorette both gum and patches and nothing worked until the TBX . For the first time I feel I can and will be successful. I have been smoking for 35+ years and this product has made it extremely easy. The side effects are minimal - at least for me - I am usually high energy and am shocked that I am sleeping 8 hours a night instead of 6. I can get over that. I took more than the recommended dosage at first - when I felt the need to be overwhelming. After one week I sleep all night and don't usually take one for 2-3 hours after I am up. I am shocked at how easy this strip has made it for me. It will take a little will power but nothing like going cold turkey or using one of the other methods.

Hi, i've quit for 2 weeks now. Side effects i have are very little, dry mouth and that's about it.
In europe its very cheap, 22€ for the whole cure. 1,5mg per tablet. They recommend to take 2packages and take your time. Also, take one every 2 hours for about max 10 days (for those who take longer tan 5 days).
It works like a charm. Even if you are not strong willed.
Also, now new studies are being done, with people taking 3mg at a time.
I consider the product safe if you don t use other neural medication.
If you do, consult your doctor first, its almost the same as chantix, so if he says you can use that, just use tabex or desmoxan, a lot cheaper and way less side effects than chantix.

This medication actually acts like Chantix, I don't think it has anything to do with being addicted to nicotine... It blocks the part of the brain that craves. So that's why it works for many types of addiction

Re: Confused ex smoker (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

Quitting smoking is 80/20. 80% mental and 20% physical, the mind controls the body. I quit when there were no pills, but now there's a pill for everything. How strong are you and what is the payoff/set your mind to quit without the pills. Yes I quit. I took a half a pack and rolled it in duct tape. I'd go to work and when I got home I'd see the box rolled in duct tape and kick it, kick it everywhere until I was tired and breathing hard. Lasted about 10 days, and then one day I came home and pitched it in the garbage. Even today if I had to do it again I still wouldn't take a pill, my luck I'd get stuck on the pill and not want to quit that. If you really want to quit, I mean really want to, then do it. The reward is great, and you'll realize that you're stronger than you thought. It's a mental war, as after a week-10 days the nicotine is gone from your system. Drink a gallon of water a day and load up on vitamin C. Then kick the box wrapped in duct tape, or whatever you choose.

Re: gemmy (# 70) Expand Referenced Message

$300 sounds outrageous for a course of cytisine. I paid around $40US for a box of Tabex. It sounds like cytisine may not be a good drug choice for you. Headaches and nausea are fairly common reported side effects (trivial in my case) but if it does not suppress cravings or withdrawal symptoms for you there is no point in taking it. An underappreciated but possibly illuminating concept termed "biochemical individuality" was described by Roger Williams some years ago in a book with that title. Different people can have quite different responses to the same drugs and it is a good idea to avoid ingesting any drug with side effects that a person finds troublesome -- especially if the drug is not working for its intended purpose.

I have tried many times to stop smoking. I have used Champix (UK) three times successfully, but I went back to smoking each time. I lasted 3 years, 18 months, and 5 months. My youngest son used Tabex and he advised me to try it. So far no side effects and I stopped after three days. I'm 65 years of age and have smoked since I was around 10 or 11 years of age. I've tried just stopping, substituting with a "vape", just willpower (too weak-willed and easily led) lasted a couple of days. So far this has been the easiest way. I am on several medications due to neck and spine injuries: Morphine sulfate 140mg per day, plus Sevredol 20mg when needed, Pregabalin 300mg, Amitriptyline 100mg, Furosemide 80mg, Ramipril 10mg all per day. I also have Testosterone shots every 4 weeks and a daily multi-vitamin. So far no side effects after three weeks and I think if there were any I would have gotten them by now. Hope this helps somebody.

I have been doing 'quit4good' for 5 days as of today. I have had headaches and a yukky feeling in my tummy. I didn't have a reduction in smoking plus I was cranky. Today I stopped smoking and feel the same as I did 2 weeks ago when I went cold turkey. I'm anxious, teary and have the usual effects of stopping smoking. I wonder why it works for some and not for others. I was going to buy cigs but put a patch on instead. I am disappointed as I payed $300 for it. I have emailed and asked for a refund. I was so excited to stop. I am calm now with a patch on. I really want to do this.

According to the manufacturer, if you decide to smoke while using them you will feel like you have smoked too much. I can't say that first-hand as I have not combined them.
