I am having a mild fever with a cough and cold and running nose since 4 days. I've taken paracetamol & Leon but my fever is still not going away and neither is the cold.

A cold is caused by a virus, so an antibiotic will not help with that. An antibiotic will only help with a bacterial infection. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

Is there anything else I can help with?

My husband is 57yrs old and he's been coughing productively for a month with wheezing, difficulty breathing, taking cough syrup and not getting better. What is the best antibiotic of choice? He is a smoker.
