I recently started on Antabuse. I was brave enough to try drinking 24 hours after my last dose. I actually drank quite a bit and had no adverse side effects. My question is since antabuse works by altering the way your body in particular your liver processes alcohol, will it cause alcohol to be detectable longer than the average 48-72 hours in a urine test? Does anyone know the answer to this?

I took 1 250mg around 11:00am. Will anything happen if I use any product that contains alcohol? ## It will do what it is supposed to, it may cause nausea, vomiting, flushing, sweating, thirst, fainting, and weakness, according to FDA reports. It is best to avoid all products containing alcohol, while taking Antabuse. Is there anything I can help with? ## I have found that taking Antabuse 250mg once a week has largely reduced my drinking. It allows me to drink 1 evening in the week because after 6 days the meds have been flushed out. I know this is not ideal, but at the moment it works for me.

I am about to start taking Antabuse. I read that I shouldn't have even a drop of alcohol including vinegar. We made meatloaf for dinner and it has barbecue sauce in it which contains vinegar. Also mustard. Mayo. Salad dressing. How concerned should I be? I would like to start it right away, but do I have to wait 12 more hours? ## I would wait. My brother has recently had a psychotic episode which I am beginning to think may have been triggered by antabuse. Has anyone else had experience or heard of this? ## Yes my boyfriend had this! I have been on and off Antabuse for years. It has been amazing for me in the past as I just forget about drinking when I take it and have never experienced any symptoms. Recently my drinking has been very bad during the lockdown and so I decided to get a new prescription. I haven’t taken it for about a year now. This morning I had my first dose and 20 mins later I felt so sick, really light headed and couldn’t look at my computer screen for work. Had to lie down. I know others have put down the bottle; why can't I? Have had rehab, probation (that kind of worked as I was tested for alcohol), counseling, antabuse (I have an allergy to it but it worked for me), AA, etc. Prayer and hope. Still struggling. I've been taking antabuse for 20 days now, which is truely a blessing, freeing my mind. I haven't thought about alcohol and I truely believe It's helping me in many ways. However, I know what to do to lose weight, and I know how my body works. I'm very health oriented (beside the alcohol binges I took part in) and I can't seem to lose any weight. My gracious sister offered to give me my daily dose of Antabuse. I gave her the bottle to keep, partly so that she could that the pill description on the bottle matched what she was giving me. I had not had a drink in about 18 hours, and I did not cheek the pill. I swallowed it. I felt the need to test it about 3 hours later. I had a bucket by my side, just in case. Nothing happened. No flushing or vomiting. It has been about 4 hours. Any ideas?

I have elevated liver enzymes, ALT- 1105 AST- 578 BILI Direct- 2.8 alka phos- 264. I was diagnosed with drug induced hepatitis after two months of court ordered Antabuse. I gave a urine screen last week that came back from the lab as positive for THC. I have read in quite a few forums and doctor websites that elevated enzymes can create a false positive. I haven't had marijuana in seven months. I am going to be violated because of this screen and I have done nothing wrong. I am also on 60mg of vyvanse daily that didn't even show up on their lab report and also 800mg of ibuprofen three times daily. ## Insist on a mass-spec analysis. I have had 3 conssecutive disulfiram implants whitch had a great pshycological effect. I did not drink for these 3, 3 month periods. One day after my fourth implant, something overwhelmingly upset me and I turned to the bottle only to discover I had no known side-effects. That was yesterday. Today I am drinking again. I'm not sure what to make of this. In the beginning I truly believed this is the answer. Now I'm not sure if my doctor is pulling the wool over my eyes or if for some reason my liver still manages to perform its usual duty whilest on treatment. i have used ant abuse for 5 years and am now told it has been discontinued what can i do ## From what I've read, Antabuse (Disulfiram) has been discontinued in Canada as well as some other countries, due to a lack of demand. You could try contacting the manufacturer about putting it back on the market, and encourage others to do so as well. The more demands they get, the more they'll probably be more apt to reconsidering its production once more. Unfortunately there's not much else you can do in situations like this, other than asking your doctor about other similar alternatives for your condition. It certainly shouldn't be the only drug of its class out on the market, is it?
