Amphetamine Salts Er 20 Mg Plz Help

Updated

I was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age, but never really took any sort of medication. As the years past, and I progressed into adulthood signs of my ADHD presented themselves more clearly which effected my personal relationships and overall work output/performance. I decided that the adult thing to do would be to research and talk w/ my doctor about possible steps. My doctor suggested, along with a confirmation by a psychologist, that I start taking Adderall XR. So I was given 20 mg of the generic form (Amphetamine Salts ER).

My first day was last Wednesday, and it worked wonderfully. I was motivated, alert, focused, which led to a better overall mood. It was everything I had hoped for. The next day I took it again, but with less of an effect. I chalked this up to my body getting used to the new medication, and the great effect it had the first day would most likely taper off to find a more even balance of focus and mood without the more noticeable effects.

I did not take the medicine over the weekend (Friday-Sunday), as my doctor recommended that I don't unless I am studying or working.

On Monday I took the medication again, but this time as soon as I could feel it start to enter my system I was more jittery, nervous, anxious, out of focus and motivation. This feeling worsened throughout the day. When I came home I realized I hadn't eaten anything since breakfast (due to my hectic schedule, and a slight lack of appetite) and that the lack of food was the reason for my bad reaction toward the drug. I ate some food (which helped a little), tried to calm down, and finally fell asleep. For the past couple of days, however, I have made sure to keep a healthy flow of nutrition throughout and have still seen the same, but not nearly as bad, adverse effects.

I had taken the pill to make my ADHD better not worse then off the drug. I am normally a very outgoing and talkative person, but for the past few days it seems as though a conversation is a chore, and I find myself searching for words. Not to mention I have no motivation to study even though finals are coming up! The only thing that I can think of that changed is that I haven't worked out since I started the medication last week. Could the lack of physical exertion be to blame? Could this still just be my body getting used to the new drugs?

This is a stimulant medication and, as with any new medication, it can take 4 to 6 weeks for your body to fully adjust to it, so the side effects taper off and it reaches its full effect for you.

However, skipping it on the weekends actually disrupts this cycle, so I am not sure why your doctor has recommended for you to do that. You might want to discuss it with them.

The side effects you are experiencing, however, are completely normal for this drug.

Its normal. Pretty much you get to remember/study/read/ makes every type of studying and working easyer for you. the problem is it pretty much turns you bipolar.

If you have emotional problems controlling your sadness or depression i would either learn ways to control them (martial arts) or dont take it.

Ive been taking this for around 4 years and it is like night and day for studying, biggest helper ANYONE can take to help, but you have to learn to unstress yourself when you get jitters or what ev.

Side note: Mix vikadin with aderal before a fight (mma) and your f***ing unstoppable. Your crash just sucks.

I say you are weak if you need drugs to win a fight. It may not be steroid use, but you're still drugging yourself. The actual effects of mixing an opiate with amphetamines will do harm to your mind and body. And in fact, you will not be able to control your moods with long time use due to how it will effect your neurotransmitters. Don't be an idiot.

I was diagnosed with ADD about 3 years ago .I never even had a clue i would have had this condition, but with talking with my psychiatrist it explained that it may have been a factor in a lot of choices and problems i had growing up.I am an adult and 52 years old and if you are truly ADD the diagnoses and treatment can be life altering. I started with Ritalin at 72 mg. a day and it worked for a while but eventually had to change to Adderall. Each person has to find what works for them as everyone is different. For me personally the treatment works and am fortunate not to have any side effects. This drug actually slows me down and allows me to concentrate on each task at hand. It doesn't work the same with someone who does not have ADD. If there are any haters out there, the medicines out there for this do work, not for everybody. It's trial and error, but first you need a good psychiatrist to guide you through the diagnoses and treatment.I wish i would have known 30 years ago what i know today. Don't give up!

I find this slightly offense. You obviously don't understand the medication as well as you think. I was prescribed the narcotic Amphetamine Salts ER. It was prescribed to me for my Asperger Syndrome (a mild form of Autism) and BIPOLAR disorder. I do not appreciate this. I mean no offense as this was certainly not intentional, but I ask you politely to speak a little more carefully and with more sensitivity.
I did appreciate your response, though. It was informative. I am not judgemental, or certain for that matter, but it doesn't sound healthy for you to mix these drugs. I might try it, though. It seems like a good tip for my fights in Nhat Nam (Vietnamese martial art). Thank You.

I feel exactly the same way. The 1st time taking it was great but now I can't concentrate. I am also feeling that even though it isn't giving me the effects I was hoping for I still want it. I don't know if this is considered addiction.
