Amitriptyline Hcl Tab (Page 2)

Updated

I am taking 25 MG at night and sometimes 25 MG in the day time. I have very short temper and I get angry very fast. I am a very busy man at the office and have to handle a variety of things simultaneously. When I take the medicine I feel ok. My only worry is that if I continue too long I will get addicted to it and will that be bad? Also need to know if I take this tab regularly will it affect my libido?

I am taking Elavil in place of trazodone. It is prescribed to me for sleep and depression. Above mentions the side affects of jerking or sudden movements as well as anxiety. As with any other antidepressant, you will need to start with a low dose and slowly titrate up. There side affects are pretty much a given when first starting an anti depressant. Perhaps you doc can prescribe an anti-anxiolitic during the 1st few weeks on a new med. This will help those side affects until the drug is allowed to fully work. Many people that are put on anti-depressants don't know this and stop taking these drugs before they feel any affect.
By the way, I'm sleeping through the night which hasn't happened in years. The side affects have subsided after 2.5 weeks.

I've been on it 2 weeks, will it feel a lot different when it actually starts building up in my system? Like Prozac does? I just can't help but feel numb and tired, does it get better?

I feel the same way Tommy feels. I haven't been on it long, but after reading all about this drug, it scares me. Should I stop taking it? I have had one out burst, yelling and scream at everyone in the house. Cussing in front of my 76 year old mother, who I take care of. I'm so upset with myself. This behavior is not acceptable. This is crazy, it was suppose to help me sleep plus I take adderall in the mornings. I am going to talk to my pain doctor...ASAP!!! He prescribed them to me.

Gastric bypass is a great"quick fix", which I'm not usually a fan of, but a gastric bypass ends in 2 ways: you love the new you enough to pick up the healthy habits that would've most likely prevented the bypass in the first place (I say that with great hesitancy, I struggle with weight gain myself, and know there are a variety of factors: pancreas, liver, thyroid, medications, genetics, etc, it's a long list.
The 2nd outcome of a gastric bypass is enjoying, but not maintaining the new you, and weight gain can be slow and insidious. If you've had a bypass I know you're aware.
And yes, don't trust just one doctor, or especially a message board, when it comes to taking meds after a bypass. Your body's metabolic system is completely turned on a dime. So a Percocet 10 that made you giddy before the bypass could potentially make you pass out after the bypass. Check with 2 docs and a pharmacist. That's a rule I even have for myself because I'm a duel diagnosis: degenerative disc disease means back surgery every 5-10 years on top of Major Depressive and Generalized anxiety disorders. So my medicine chest is a lock box, because it would be A wet dream for an abuser. I've never weighed in, I'm just a lurker, researching new meds they switch me to about every couple of years, but this seemed important enough I felt it was a moral obligation to warn you of the dangers you might not know about. Doctors can do great things, but I have found that they aren't always the best pharmacologists, especially if you have a medical care team. I had seratonin syndrome because of doctor miscommunication, mixed in with myself not doing enough of my own research to know that they had me on 4 meds that all contraindicated each other. I literally thought I was going to die. Then when I figured out I wasn't, I wanted to, became extremely suicidal (part of my mood disorder causes me to fixate on morbid images of my own death, which my care team says is not the same as suicidal, and I will say I agree for the most part, but with a little med slip, suddenly I was ACTUALLY suicidal). Not to scare anyone, but it happens, and you do carry a bit of the responsibility for your health yourself, so exercise judgement and caution.

My 7 year old granddaughter has taken amitriptyline for 3 nights. Now she is sweating, talking in her sleep and so restless. The pharmacist told me this shouldn't be taken with vyvanse. She is not herself and I think we should not give her anymore. It's supposed to help her rest.

What is amitriptyline used for? Our doctor prescribed amitriptyline 10mg for IBS. Is this common? I don't see any information that mentions it being used for IBS.

Re: Linda (# 34) Expand Referenced Message

My doctor says they use it for cyclic vomiting syndrome, so if it works on that it makes sense it works for IBS.
My roommate has IBS and she hates her meds because they make sedated, so sounds about right.
