Has anyone had amitriptyline for nerve pain? I want to come off them, but I’m concerned the nerve pain will return. Has anyone had any experience with this? ## There is a chance that the pain may return, if you stop abruptly, sudden withdrawal could result in a rebound effect, where they pain might be even worse than it was to begin with. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, dry mouth, and weight changes. Why do you want to stop taking them? ## At the beginning I felt so pleased when the tablets kicked in. I started at 25 mg and eventually increased to 75 mg. All was going well. I get the usual side effects, but no real problems. I’ve been on them for about 6 years. The reason I want to come off, is because a...

After 20 years of taking amitriptyline for headaches I would like to find people who have had any heart related side effects after long term amitriptyline use. ## Very little is known about the long-term effects of most drugs for depression. The biggest problem reported currently is relapse, when the medication is discontinued. You can read more about antidepressants here: As to any cardiac effects, I am only finding warnings that problems may occur if it is used with some specific other medications. Does anyone else know anything about this? ## I have been on Elavil for 20 years and 100mg at bedtime and I don't recommend anyone taking it long term. I have heart palpatations every day which was determined from Dr. that it was hormonal, but I don't believe it. I tried to decrease...

There are a number of warnings about the possible side effects of taking Amitriptyline - some people get one or more, others none at all. In my case I suffered a migraine on and off every twenty four hours for very many years. About 15 years ago I was prescribed this drug (10mg daily) to ease the symptoms and frequency and initially it seemed to make little difference but I have not had a migraine now for some six years - whether it is the Amitriptyline or something else no-one can tell me, but I have continued to take them all this time. The effects of taking them long term appear not to be known, but I am, quite naturally, unwilling to stop in case the migraines return. I have also been very fortunate in that I have had no side effects at all ever since I started taking them. I am jus...

Hello, I've been taking amitriptyline for about 2 years. I've also been addicted to Ambien and Xanax. I've tried everything for sleep so I didn't take this med when it was first prescribed because I thought it wouldn't work. The first time I took it I was out of Ambien and Xanax and very paranoid. However it actually made me sleep for about five hours which was a very pleasant surprise. That was 50mg. Now I'm completely off Xanax and Ambien and am talking 100-150 of amitriptyline a night. It works very well. It's the only non controlled substance that has ever worked to help me sleep. Because it's not controlled it's much easier to get. When I'm out of it I don't sleep at all. This medication has been a godsend to me. ## Hello, Erin! How are y...

What are the positive side effects for diabetes issues? ## Several herbs and supplements were mentioned. For example, gingko has been shown to be beneficial for diabetic retinopathy due to its antioxidant properties. In addition, natural products such as beta-glucan, beta-sitosterol, niacin, omega-3 fatty acids, soy and psyllium have strong supportive evidence in lowering lipid abnormalities commonly seen with diabetes. However, Ulbricht cautioned that these herbal supplements are only to be used as integrative therapies rather then replacing western medicine as the patients’ primary treatment. ## Amitryptyline is an antidepressant that has also been shown to help with anxiety, and some types of nerve pain. Is anyone taking these two drugs together? My pharmacist is concerned, but both my Gastroenterologist (who prescribed it for IBS) and Psychiatrist are not concerned as I have no history of seizures. I also take Lamictal for bipolar, which was originally an anti-seizure drug. Confusing. ## Taking them together can lower your seizure threshold, and the Buproprion can increase the effect of the Amitriptyline, so the dosage of the Bupropion should be kept as low as possible, and your doctor should be monitoring you regularly in case any problems arise. Ref: Medscape Interactions You can use that interaction checker to read more. Medline Plus Amitriptyline and Bupropion. However, part of a pharmacist's job is to be cautious, and make sure you are aware of any possible risks, and they oft...

I am 25 years old and I am taking Tryptomer 25mg from past few months but its not regular. I take it for some time period and then stop, along with some sleeping pill (forgot its name). Could you please tell me if that drug is used to induce prolonged sleep to eliviate pain in the lower back vertebrae and discs. Or if some other drug cocktail exists to achieve this. An earlier reply is appreciated. Thanks C ## I believe the medication you are referring to is Amitriptyline, a generic for Elavil. This is an antidepressant that sometimes helps people with mild to moderate pain. It can cause drowsiness, but will not induce prolonged sleep. I suggest speaking to your doctor to get ideas for what may help you. ## Thanks Verwon. A friend of mine suffers from severe back pain. He is undergoing this sleep treatment induced by a cocktail of drugs? He has been doing this for a week at home. Apart from nurses going in to check on him he wont let anyone near him. Looking for amitriptyline manufactured by Mylan ## I'm sorry, but there is no database showing which medications from which manufacturer are in stock, at any given pharmacy. Such information would be virtually impossible to keep updated, if someone did try to create one. Have you asked your usual pharmacy if they can order it in for you? Some pharmacies will do so, for their regular customers. Amitriptyline is most commonly used to treat depression, and nerve pain. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, and dry mouth.

I am on stresam 50mg and have now gotten a trepiline 10mg prescription today to take at night before bed. Is it safe to use both together? I don't want something strange happening to me at any point. ## Has your doctor instructed you to take both of them? Stresam is listed as containing Etifoxine, and Trepiline contains Amitriptyline, they are sometimes used together, in cases where someone has severe anxiety that is resistant to treatment, but in such cases, their doctors should be monitoring them regularly, in case of any problems. The U.S. FDA warns that combining such medications may cause more severe side effects, which may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, sedation, and somnolence.

I tried posting this as a reply in another thread, but occurs to me that I should post iot in it's own thread, rather than hijacking someone else's. I'm new here, so I apologize if I've done anything wrong! My problem / question: I take several medications before bedtime every night. My mistake, having read about it elsewhere, is probably taking a couple or three different pills at a time. Three nights ago, one of the smaller pills got stuck in my throat and caused some painful burning. I washed it down with water, but the damage was done. Now I can only whisper and sometimes it hurts to swallow. Can anyone tell me which of the following medications might have been the one to burn my throat? Amitriptyline, Simvastatin, Carvedilol OL, Losartan Potassium, Escitalopram oxal...
