Alternatives To Opiates

Updated

Ive been on opiate pain killers for almost 10 years. At first it was recreational but then 3 years ago I actually got hurt. This stuff has ruined my life and I want off of it but I dont know how to deal with the pain so that I can forever say goodbye to the almighty roxy. Ive tried every otc product as well as perscription non-narcotics and nothing allows me to live my life without this misery. If there is some crazy chinesse remedy or an African vodoo chant, please let me in on the secret. I want my life back! someone please help!

Unforunately, I know of no such solutions, although they would be awesome.

The problem with getting off of narcotics is that a sudden withdrawal can also cause rebound pain, which can be worse than your actual pain levels, for several weeks.

What other medications have you tried and what condition is causing your pain?

Some people have had good luck with anticonvulsants that can also help with never pain, such as Gabapentin:

Hi Chris, this is such an old post but it keeps popping up where people can benefit from reading it. Often Drug Treatment facilities/outpatient programs add Tramidol and/or "all natural Kratom" to your medication list to help you taper off narcotics. There are thousands of VETS with PTSD and/or with horrific injuries on Kratom because they got off their Narcotics. I'm not against narcotics, most pain patients who take their pain meds as prescribed are NOT addicts, don't crave it or get sick when they stop taking moderate doses. Your body can build up a tolerance which is NOT the same as addiction and normal for PM patients who should always be watched and followed closely to make sure their pain is managed properly. It's all about having good quality of life, this is always our goal for those in moderate to severa pain, it should never be the goal to take enough narcotics to achieve 100% pain relief, that's not proper Pain Management and can't be sustained.

I can't take codeine because I get severe stomach cramps and chest pain when I do... What can I take instead that would do the same job?
