Ken Powell Says:

Alprazolam (Zanax) can possibly help you with withdrawal from diapazepam (Valium) The problem you may run into is the half life of each medication. Alprazolam (Xanax) is a very short acting benzodiazepine,, while diazepam (valium) has a much longer half life If you are not in recovery from alcohol or other medications, you can use alcohol for withdrawal symptoms from benzodiazepiness <(Valium,Klonopin,Versed,Ativan, Xanax, Librium, etc,) Interestingly enough, the human brain cannot distinguish between benzodiazpines and alcohol. Infact they adhere to the same receptor sites in our tiny little brains. So if you find the Xanax is not working, you can try the alcohol to help the witdrawal. If you have (or anyone else have any questions, feel free to email. If I don;t know thee answer, one of my colleagues will. God luck, hang in there and contact me if I be of any help.....Ken Powell

Kay Says:

Yes xanax will help from valium withdrawals if you take the right amount of milligrams. Don't take them to long or you will have Xanax withdrawls to go through.

concerned Says:

just be careful and track your blood pressure with either method. The poster is exactly on the money as for the receptor binding of alcohol and benzos. So it just may be a viable option. Just watch the B/P.
Hang In there, it will pass.

This is BS. Using one "pam" to withdraw from.another, or use alcohol?Wow. Wish I had your doctor. Questions to be asked: How long have you been on.it? Any.addiction problems? (Can't imagine a doctor would take you.off if not, but the "pams" are supposed to be short term, but when they came out, at least around the 60's, they were a wonder drug. I was put on Valium at age 15 (55 now). Changed by a Psych to xanax & klonopin. This year, got the ObamaCare. & was taken off. Abruptly. Was in.ER with seizures, etc. Didn't sleep at all for 6 weeks, this was last March 2014. My husband died 2 days later. What a mess. Then, went into a.drug program. For xanax! Was stolen from by crack addicts, abused by a Deacon running the place, physically assaulted by a person there ending up in.the hospital where I still am. Yet, no one would give me any.kind of "pam" & even today (DEC), am only sleeping about 3-4 hours a.night. Even getting pain pills is a problem. This whole fiasco is being carried too far. In CA, it is already on my record for.that dam pam! I didn't ask my Dr.to give them to me, they did. Now, can't work, still problems & no dr wants to cut the doseage'& give me a.little.for rest! Anyway, point is, I.don't think.it is right to nkt taper the drug. The ObamaCare is a scam, tbe DEA looks into your background & wants you off if on more tnan 6 mos. And, if you don't knowvthe street scene, the drug programs don't know how to deal with. Bern stolen from, etc. Get a.good addiction psych & have.them taper you, klonopin has a.good half life & go to NA or AA meetings. Alcohol is not the answer as it is also mind altering & addictive. Bless you & pray.
