Allergic To Nsaids - Dont Like Narcotics And Tramadol Isn't On The $4 List Anymore - What Can I Take For Pain Besides Tylenol?

Updated

I have been taking Tramadol for at least 9 years now for chronic post-surgical right knee pain, back pain, and Arthritis. They just took Tramadol off of the $4 list at wal-mart and Target. I do not like narcotics because they make me feel sick, and have horrible withdrawal symptoms and side effects. I am already physically dependent on the Tramadol so I don't want to make it any worse by adding a Narc to it. I am allergic to NSAIDS to the point that if I take them it will kill me, Tramadol is becoming to expensive, and Tylenol doesn't even come close to alleviating my pain, I am in so much pain all of the time...what pain meds can I take that isn't expensive, works well on severe bone and joint pain and not an NSAID???

Actually, Tramadol is classified as an opiate/narcotic, though the FDA has changed their minds on this several times.

As to being physically dependent, that is going to happen with anything you use regularly for a long period of time, regardless of the medication classification. Dependence even happens with common items, such as coffee, if you are used to having it for a long time and suddenly stop, you will experience mild withdrawal symptoms.

Have you tried any of the medications in the anticonvulsant classes? They have successfully helped many people with various types of pain.

The most commonly used are Lyrica, which contains the active ingredient Pregabalin and Neurontin, which contains the active ingredient Gabapentin. Both are available as generics, but the price may vary depending on where you are purchasing them.

And the new change in the classification of Tramadol is probably why it has been taken off the $4 list, most pharmacies don't include controlled substances on their discount lists, due to the risks of abuse.

Are there any other comments or questions?

Of course tramadol is a 'narcotic'. What else would you call an opioid?

My question as supplementary to this is (as I live in the UK and have to get US meds sent by friends) WHAT DRUGS ARE ON THIS FOUR BUCK SCRIPT LIST? I take opioid analgesics (currently oxycodone, dipipanone and dextromoramide) and benzodiazepines (clonazepam for epilepsy and prophylaxis of panic, alprazolam and lorazepam for anxiolysis). Is there a list on the internet stating which brands of which of these can be had in monthly supply for such a price? I hear that Mallinckrodt M367 Hydrocodone/apap combo is one, but I would require stronger analgesia... Target, CVS and Walgreen have been mentioned on some sites as dispensing half decent makes of some useful meds at under $5 per 120. count.

I know this is old but, in case anyone reads it.....LYRICA DOES NOT HAVE A GENERIC FORM ABAILABLE AND THE CHEAPEST PRICE IS $513 for 120 with no insurance. Lyrica has NEVER and sure has not in 2011, been available in generic form. Only Neurontin is.....Gabapentin.

I never knew tramadol was a opiate, I have taken it a few times over the years but got no pain control with it. Has it always been considered a opiate, just curious.

Tramodol is not a opiate. It works on the opiate receptors in the brain, hence it helps in reducing withdraws when quitting opiates. It's not a drug that mixes well with others. It greatly increase your chance if a seizure. Especially with codeine.

Tramadol is NOT. An opioid you can't even compare it to oxycodones. It also has an nsaid in it. I am allergic to all nsaids so I cannot even take tramadol. Fyi

I am 67 years old. I had two major surgeries on my back, 2 discs are herniated, I have very severe neuropathy in both feet & they burn like hell to the point it makes me cry and is going up to my knees. I'm a diabetic. I have chronic pancreatitis. I've had 15 operations in a year and a half. Only thing I get is to 2 mg Dilaudid every 12 hours and they cut me back now to 50 Dilaudid for 30 days. I live in Bangor Maine. I just had heart surgery. I just had my nurse practitioner take me off my Adderall I've been on for over 20 years as well as take me off my Ambien and my Klonopin that I've been on for 47 years. I'm going crazy to the point I've blowing my brains out. Can someone help? What can I do? Thank you. Please try to help me because I won't continue to live like this.
