Adderall Backorder (Page 66)

Updated

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

Re: Debbie M in California (# 1290) Expand Referenced Message

I pay out of pocket at Walgreens because they don't accept my insurance, and they have been the only ones to have Teva since 2020. I pay $30 for 20mg 60 tabs through goodrx. Maybe tell them you are willing to pay for it if you can. My Walgreens had it last Thursday, and I told them if it's Cambria I don't want it. My script can go somewhere who accepts my insurance instead of paying for something I don't want. Suddenly, they had 2 bottles they fill from. Not sure how much that is, but they had the Teva. Hope that helps!

Re: Denise (# 1301) Expand Referenced Message

Denise, I am on Medicare and my copay for 60 20mg tablets is $45. This is so crazy. Technically I can't use good Rx unless a med is not covered but I might try it anyway. I did get Teva back in Jan at Walgreens but they seemed to be old and crumbly.

Maybe my pharmacist will order the Teva but he isn't very cooperative. Last time I had my script filled with the Camber/Cambria I had been waiting all weekend. I went on Monday but the truck had not come yet at 2:30. When it did come, he didn't even call me. I had my doctor send script to other store on Tuesday. I got a text saying it was ready but at my regular store. So I had to go cancel the second script at other Walgreens. He said he was too busy to call me.

I wanted to talk to store manager but she wasn't there so I spoke to assistant manager and explained how stressful that was.

Also he told me he was ordering Mallinkrodt but did not.

Re: Denise (# 1301) Expand Referenced Message

I have an email from Teva customer service telling me they sent Adderall to warehouse and I showed it to the pharmacist when I went in Thursday to see if they had it. She said she ordered it the day before and they said it was on backorder till the 29th but didn't guarantee if they would have it then. I think she was telling the truth because she half way showed me the order sheet. I am at the point nothing surprises me. I go through this each month. I have been out since the end of June. I am glad you are getting it. I pay $47.00 for my prescription I take 4 a day of the 20 mg. That is half the cost my insurance pays the rest.

Re: Debbie M in California (# 1303) Expand Referenced Message

Debbie, this is so unbelievable. If one Walgreens can get Teva, why can't all of them. I know they are available at the main distribution center because someone in here who works for Teva said they have been shipping them to Walgreens DCs. I just can't quite grasp the issue.

Some of us rely on Adderall for a quality of life. We rely on it to make phone calls, leave the house, focus enough to pay bills, go to the grocery store, take care of our homes. I don't know what to believe.

Re: Cyr (# 1297) Expand Referenced Message

No, my standard Rx hasn't changed since 2011. Dexedrine/Zenzedi Dextroamphetamine Sulfate 10mg TID... unless I and my MD change it due to supply chain/manufacturer issues. Then we switch to Adderall generic 15mg TID. There are different conversion charts for ADHD meds, but we stick to 1:1.5 so 10 dex equals 15 add. Always IR. What has changed significantly... insanely.. is the quality and availability of the meds. Like everyone on this thread, I have experienced incrementally the decline of availability of quality generics with efficacy and no side effects. As said AUROBINDO is by far the #1 offender, decimating the national market... And I think after they got in the game, it suddenly became a pharma competition...a race to the bottom....who can mass market the worst crap at the cheapest Price...flood and dominate the market. "HECK, AUROBINDO is getting away with fraud and getting rich on it; the wholesale distributors are happy with larger margins, higher profit... the PBMs, pharmacies and FDA aren't barking.... Let's all just throw away quality, compliance and ethics and make big $$$ on s****y ADHD meds cuz enforcement and accountability doesn't exist! Honor system? Nah. "

Think about it. If someone in the class cheated and there was never adverse consequences and they are getting an A+.... but you were getting a B because you didn't want to cheat, eventually everybody will just cave in because being an honest player becomes a liability without deterrents.

Welcome to today's mess. That's my real world observationn and I have no proof to back it up. It started with Core Pharma around 2012... then AUROBINDO ran with it. Apparently Scott Gottlieb MD tore down the guard rails when he got appointment as FDA chief.

Yes, I read about Gottleib, head of the FDA for a year. Appointed by D. Trump.

I have good news, I hope. My Walgreens pharmacist left. Today there was a woman, she wasn't busy, so I told her what a hard time I was having with the poor generics. I asked if she was able to order a specific generic "brand". She said the district manager did not allow that.

I asked if she saw Teva in any of the stores where she worked. She went to the cabinet to look while I was there. I told her any strength of Teva would be great. She had looked at my profile and saw that I was out of Adderall. I said I was taking Focalin but didn't like the side affects so usually did not take them. She looked and said they only had Camber in 20mg but had 30mg Teva. I got sort of excited and started yammering (I had taken 2 Focalin to go grocery shopping and ask at Publix again about Teva). My doctor comes back from vacation on Monday so I will have him send a script. She said they definitely had 60. She also said she thought they had come in last week. She won't be there Monday but a female co-worker will be working. You are right, the women are easier to talk to. She was eyeballing me for my talking so much. I was happy I was having a really good day for a change. I can be paranoid. My concern is that they won't always have the Teva.

In the past I have written to a Walgreens district manager but didn't ask for his/her name. Maybe on Monday. She said something about the dm and asked me if I knew her--the blond she said. I have seen a blind woman there many times but thought she was a tech as she worked the pick up windows. My Walgreens is set up differently as you cannot see the people filling prescriptions from the pick up window, except in a mirror.

What I can't understand is they will take a Good Rx coupon for 30mg x 60 at $30 but balk at insurance that pays more.

You know the chains are paying pharmacists less than they did in the 90s. Apparently a bunch of "easier to pass" pharmacy schools opened and were churning out entry level pharmacists very quickly No PharmDs. So no one cares about the patients any more. Maybe we ought to remind them who keeps them in business.

I take the IRs because they give me more control on good days and bad days. I took the brand until 2020. The cost rose rapidly after 2006 ish.

I am hoping for the best and these low quality manufacturers get kicked to the curb so to speak

Good luck everyone.

Re: BlessedLady (# 1264) Expand Referenced Message

Wrong. There are specifics for each medication (ex: opiate laws differ from adderall). This is a great forum for information, but I feel terrible for the people who don’t know better and take the random posts from people who clearly don’t know what they are talking about as fact.

Re: Stacy (# 1308) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you, Stacy. I was reading laws concerning controlled substances but could not find any that specifically mentioned stimulants. I did see references to medications for obesity but did not read them. I believe there maybe different state laws. In Florida, for example, a Nurse Practitioner cannot write a CII med. I used to think only psychiatrists could write stimulants but it has come to my attention that any doctor may prescribe them but I believe they would have to have justification. This might be subject to change due to the increase in the number if prescriptions. Just a speculation on my part

Re: Cyr (# 1309) Expand Referenced Message

Any doctor can write prescriptions for stimulants. Provided they had a legitimate medical reason. The same thing go for opiates. Some doctors prescribe low dose stimulants for conditions like Fibromyalgia.

Some states allow psychologists to prescribe medications including Schedule II drugs. They are required to undergo the same pharmacology training doctors do.

That is a very old law you are citing. NP’s have been prescribing CII’s in Florida for years.

Re: Cyr (# 1304) Expand Referenced Message

I feel like it has ended the world as I once knew it. I had went to a pharmacy that would get me the brand I asked for and when they only had a partial would give me the rest when they got them. I have traded with them for past few years. Then they got camber and they quit trying to get the meds for me. So in the past in my town the pharmacist would say they had ordered them but they never came in. I gave up on them when I found this last one. I seen the order sheet and it seemed legitimate. They said the 29th but the pharmacist said there was no guarantee. I am going to call today and ask them to make sure and order them for the 29th. I have been without medication for over a month now. I feel like street drugs are the only option but I don't want to get on that merry-go-round again. I am 64 almost 65 years old and well I am not abusing the medication. I was for 20 years over medicated by the physician I use to have up until he retired. When he retired I went through withdraw hell. I had been taking 180 mg of Adderall a day, 1-2 Xanax 2mg a day, and Lortabs at 180 mg a day. I don't recall anything much for about 30 days. The thing I still won't take is pain medication. I withdrew from that the worse. I never took the Xanax much so it was not a problem. I don't withdraw from Adderall I just turn into a b.... . I cant get up and accomplish anything. But most of all my memory is bad. I can not even go into another room to get something and remember what it is. Total lack of concentration. I am so tired of feeling this way.

Re: Deb (# 1312) Expand Referenced Message

I believe that is only if they are working with a doctor. My niece is studying to be a NP but will move out of Florida to have the ability to work on her own So I was told. I did not look it up. I have not seen any NPs with their own independent practice.

Re: Debbie M in California (# 1314) Expand Referenced Message

My Walgreens now has Teva generic Adderall 30mg, I am so relieved. Debbie, am so sorry you are having to go through this. I understand the memory issues. I was having them also. For 5 years I sold vintage jewelry as well as my own creations. This year, I packed it all up in bins. Today, I actually regained some Interest and pulled the bins out. What a difference!

Walgreens can get them. I was told the pharmacist cannot order a particular brand, however. Just happened that is what was sent. My pharmacist left Walgreens, thankfully, as I am pretty sure he would not have told me since I was taking 20mg. The pharmacists who have been in the store the past week are much more helpful and they answer the phone. Have you asked if they have the brand you want in any strength? If you have Medicare, the copay may be the same for an equivalent dosage for 30 days.

I know how hard it is to keep checking. I confess I have considered going to the street if the situation did not improve. When you have a good day, if you have a good day, go to your store and speak to the pharmacist. You could even speak to the store manager. They are very concerned about losing customers. Speak to a woman if possible.

If that fails, try asking your doctor for Dexedrine / dextroamphetamine. At least it is an amphetamine. You were definitely over medicated which makes it very difficult to adjust. I've had this disorder since childhood but it was unrecognized in the 50s. I wasn't diagnosed until 1997. I had seen a psychiatrist in 1986 and non-combat PTSD wasn't known then either. I don't want to spend the rest of my life like my early years when everyday was a struggle.

I believe a decent brand will show up in your area eventually. Just keep asking. Take care.

Re: Cyr (# 1315) Expand Referenced Message

Medicare does not have anything to do with it. Although if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, they might require seeing a Pain Management Doctor for chronic pain. I know several people that are prescribed opiates(Norco, Percocet) for chronic pain by their PCP or Neurosurgeon. They have Original Medicare.

Re: BlessedLady (# 1319) Expand Referenced Message

It was necessary for me to switch to an Advantage Plan as my Part D premium became too costly.
Now I am wondering if that is the reason my husband's doctor said he could no longer prescribe Ativan for his facial flushing. A 25 year condition. Why don't doctors tell you these things. How would I know if it is my plan causing these issues. Not mentioned on website or any paperwork/ plan information. Hard for me to research these things with or without Adderall.
