Adderall Mixed Amphetamine Salts

Updated

The vast majority of Adderall prescriptions, are filled by the generic version, also, made by the foreign parent, Teva of Israel, by their acquisition of Barr Labs,, of Sellersville, Pennsylvania, USA make the "original" early 1960's "OBETROL" mfg in Brooklyn, NY by Obetrol, Inc, a division of Rexal Pharma Corp, with a patented formula containing 50% pure methamphetamine, (ten mg. tablet) with 2.5% remainder of Amphetamine Sulfate, or just 2.5 mg, and, then, a match of d-amphetamine (pure dextroamphetamine sulfate) total amount of speed "10mg."

Source: Physicians Desk Reference page 888, "Physician's Desk Reference" for the year 1968. "the PDR" for 1968 publisher: Medical Economics, Oradell, NJ USA "Richwood Pharmaceutical in the year 1993, made a very clever move to get the contractual rights to market this USA C-II stimulant from "Obetrol" to the very popular diagnosis for adults and children for A.D.D or A.D.H.D for a stimulant, and the name "Adderall" was adopted, to replace Obetrol, and, the stronger stimulant, of methamphetamine, years, earlier, by the late 1970's, had already been removed by Rexar and Obetrol, to make this business transaction, effortless.

"obetrol" was first given approval, by the FDA, in the year 1965. The product description, is in the 1966 version, of Physicians Desk Reference, 20th edition, on page 811, containing 2.5 mg of methamphetamine saccharate, 2.5 mg of methamphetamine hydrochloride, 2.5 mg of amphetamine sulfate, and 2.5 mg of dextroamphetamine sulfate. Another way of phrasing it, is it was more potent, with a combination of fast, and intermediate acting, methamphetamine, such as once found in Abbotts, 5 mg Desoxyn, and Abbott Labs Desoxyn Gradument, capsules and tablets, (now off the market, except Ovation Pharmaceuticals 5 mg version of Desoxyn tablets. at a 50% of the total level, and the other 50% was split between, 25% or 2.5 mg of SKF Benzedrine, I/R, and 25% or s.5 mg, of SKF Dexedrine I/R also now no longer produced by SKF d/b/a SK Beecham, a/k/a GSK (Glaxo Smith Kline). The "original formula was changed sometime between 1974, and, 1977, as the 1978 PDR, has the current formula, as used, by Richwood (now Barr Labs) formula, since the 1993 "re-naming of Obetrol to Adderall, and the 2 mergers to follow from Richwood Pharma, to ShireUS, then to Barr Labs, a subsidiary, now of Teva of Israel, since December of 2008.

Hey Ridgerunner, how are you? I noticed you have a lot of other helpful & informative posts like this on the site, so I wanted to thank you first and foremost for taking the time out to share all these details. I'll bet that Physicians Desk Reference comes in handy quite often.

From what I understand, there's a lot of speculation about what's going on behind the scenes with some of those "crooked" manufacturing companies, so it's great to have that referenced access on who did what and when it happened. I'm positive this will serve as a good source of information for anyone looking to delve deeper into the background of Adderall/obetrol.

Thanks David for the compliment. "The research" is a combination, of my former career, many years ago, with "D&B" where I had some large pharma companies on my account list, where I visited comptrollers, and later, getting married to a BSN (a registered Nurse) for many years. I also had two roomates, in my 20's in undergraduate school, one who became a pharmacist, and the other male roommate, who's Dad owned a independent Pharmacy in Georgia, USA. Finally being finally given the diagnosis of A.D.D in 1994, I have attended multiple national conventions, of ADDA (Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder) with a excellent website, adda.org I am also a packrat, and still have in storage now, massive D&B (now dated) copies of financial reports, and industry inside knowledge, once published by Dun & Bradstreet, on such firms, as Hoffman LaRoche (US headquarters Nutley NJ) to the former infamous "William H Rorer" of Fort Washington Pa, Lemmon Pharmaceuticals of Sellersville PA, and Smith Kline & French of Phil, PA during their heyday. and wow, did they rake in the money, for a time in USA history. Roche Park, and "Leo Sternback" who joined Roche in Switzerland in 1940, and invented "Valium" in 1963, to make the company, frankly, deep and very rich. He was a research chemist, who unfortunately died, I believe, in the year 2008, when I was in Germany.

David, I made one clerical error, on my historical comments on former Abbott Labs of North Chicago, Illinois USA. For about 10 years or more, ending on July1, of 1973, Abbott, produced "Desbutal" which came in 5 mg green capsules embossed with a small a and Abbott on the "tablet", + 30 mg. of sodium pentobarbital and 10mg of Desbutal with 10mg of methamphetamine, orange and blue color, also containing 60 mg of sodium pentobarbital, in tablet form, embossed with a small "a" , and the top of the line, were the Desbutal Gradumet tablets, with 15 mg of Methamphetamine hydrochloride, and 90 mg. of sodium pentobarbital.

In 1999, Abbott sold the contractual rights for pure Desoxyn, to another firm, which only makes the 5 mg tabs (Ovation Pharmaceuticals) and the price went way, way up. about five years ago, ($381.65 US) for a bottle of 100 tabs wholesale to USA pharmacies, NDC #67388-0102-01, vs. Abbott's wholesale price of Desoxyn in 1999 was only $64.20 wholesale to USA pharmacies for the same bottle of 100 tabs of pure methamphetamine hydrochloride. REDBOOK is published and distributed by Thomson Reuters, of Montvale NJ USA PDR, formerly published by Medical Economics Company of Oradell, NJ USA. PDR in the here and now is published by PDR Network LLC of Montvale New Jersey USA

In my humble opinion, there have been significant changes in the long running PDR, as recent as 2007 vs 2011 vs 2014. I will withhold further judgement, but I am disappointed, in the manufacturers representations, as some firms, are alive and kicking, but are not listed at all in the newer versions of PDR. (Example Roche products are not in the 2011 editions, nor are Barr Labs. The 2011 version, for instance, went to press based on data up thru August of 2010. I have had prescriptions filled for Hoffman LaRoche USA Valium brand, Roche brand Klonopin, in the past 18 months, and, still get prescriptions for Barr Labs, for Adderall, but in the generic version on that one. a/k/a mixed amphetamine salts. I also have gotten prescriptions for brand Ambien by Sanofi Aventis, in the past 18 months, "and their patent expired in April of 2007".

It appears who is willing how important one now wants to be published in the PDR, whereas historically, most all pharmaceuticals, were published in the PDR's of the 1960's as late as the year 2007. Just my 2 cents worth.

Also, the retail price of REDBOOK has gone up 1000% + since 2009.

More references are from Martindale, the Extra Pharmacopoeia, published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, London (with all ethical pharmaceuticals available in 41 countries of the modern industrialized world).

The disturbing news is the AWP (Average Wholesale Price) has gone thru the roof on many meds in the past 5 to 7 years, but the information material available once to consumers, has also skyrocketed, or in some cases withheld.

MARTINDALE published every two years now sells for $750.00 US, and, REDBOOK has gone up from less than one hundred dollars, to over one thousand dollars, in the past 4 years. No wonder the "informed consumer" has great reluctance, now, with the wild price changes, wholesale and retail, and quality control issues, from USA drugs, owned by foreign companies, (Orange Book ratings by the USA FDA in 18 grade classifications. Hey ridgerunner, I hope you're still around. Do current generic adderall formulations contain any methamphetimine? I have scoured the web but without access to PDR, I am finding this information very hard to locate.

Re: Jack (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

Hello Jack, the answer is "no" there have "never been any formulations in the marketing and proprietary name of Adderall, or any of its generic versions in either I/R or E/R versions "containing any methamphetamine".

The patent was originally held by Obetrol Pharmaceuticals, (Division of Rexar Pharmacal Corp) 396 Rockaway Ave, Valley Stream, NY 11581, as published on page 1027 and 1028 in the 1973 PDR (back then the formula DID contain for 10 mg of Obetrol of 2.5 mg of Methamphetamine Saccharate, 2.5 mg of methamphetamine HCI, 2.5 mg of Amphetamine Sulfate, and 2.5 mg of Dextroamphetamine Sulfate in a tablet.

The blue round tablet was embossed with a "OP" and the stronger 20 mg tablet containing double strength of the 10 mg formula split up in 25% amounts, was a round pink color tablet with the embossment of "OP" sent to pharmacies in the USA in bottles of 100, 500 and 1,000 count of pills per bottle!!!

I have Physicians Desk References dating as far back as the year 1966, with the identical information, with the same formula, based on 1965 data. I also have a PDR based on 1977 data for the calendar year 1978 PDR "32nd edition" that shows by then, the formula for "Obetrol" had been reduced by the elimination of any
methamphetamine, in the time frame from the era from 1973 to 1977. Sorry, I have no more defined sources as to the actual date in the mid 1970's that the more potent methamphetamine was removed from the original Obetrol tablets. (USA)

1977 data shows the formula for the most potent 20 mg of Obetrol tab contained 5 mg of dextroamphetamine saccharate, 5 mg of amphetamine aspartate, 5 mg of dextroamphetamine sulfate, and, 5 mg of amphetamine sulfate for a total of 20 mg of this combination of:

Quote "a single entity of amphetamine product combining the neutral sulfate salts of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine, with the dextro isomer of amphetamine saccharate and d, l amphetamine aspartate" unquote from page 1201 from the 1978 PDR. for the USA.

The only manufacturers in 1978 that produced methamphetamine by the year 1977 for calendar year 1978 were two mfg. Abbott with Desoxyn Gradumet 5 mg 10 mg and 15 mg of pure methamphetamine tablets, in an inert, porous, plastic matrix of methamphetamine hcl. It was also available in the conventional tablets without the "Gradumet" formulation, of pure methamphetamine in sizes of 2.5 mg tablets and in sizes of 5 mg tablets, simply marketed as "Desoxyn" until the year 1999, when Abbott sold the patent to Ovation Pharmaceuticals of the USA. Abbott had numerous NDC codes (eight codes) for the ID of each bottle of the different strengths of both Desoxyn and Desoxyn Gradumet. The largest bottle sent to USA pharmacies were the 1,000 count bottles of Desoxyn I/R in the 5 mg of methamphetamine hcl.

Note: the most interesting observation is comparing the 1966 PDR on data from the year 1965 when there were exactly fourteen (14) different USA manufacturers marketing patented products of methamphetamine tablets or capsules!!! By the year 1977, only two manufacturers were left that marketed any stimulants by proprietary name of a pill or capsule containing any methamphetamine.

In the year 1977 as displayed in the 1978 PDR also were "Fetamin" tablets of 5 mg of methamphetamine instant release, mfg was, Mission Pharmacal Company, 1325 E Durango St, in San Antonio TX 78210. NDC 0178-0021-01.

The original methamphetamine was first patented on 31 October of 1937 by Dr. Fritz Hauschild, for "methamphetamine" with the tradename "Pervitin" mfg was "Tremmler-Werke" of Berlin Germany. The work of Japanese researchers as far back as in the year 1887, discovered N-methylamphetamine and crystallized it
in its pure form in the year 1919.
