Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 43)

Updated

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

I switched back to Ritalin. I’m taking Caraco by Sun Pharma 20mg IR. I get this brand from cvs. It is helping me focus tremendously, with no bad side effects to report.

I’ve only been taking adderall ir generic Teva consistently for one year. 20 mgs TEVA/BARR 2x daily or broken up to 10mgs as needed worked perfectly. In June/July picked up rx took as prescribed and nothing. This went on for 2 weeks the bottle now just said TEVA.
Here I am now from 40 mgs now barely functioning on 60-90mgs of TEVA 30 mg ir tablets.
I’ve also GAINED 15 pounds since being put on the 30mg ir.
I’m in Colorado, this was happening at Walgreens but I’m done with Teva I can not continue the weight gain and there is absolutely no way that one week my dosage of 40-50mgs worked to having to switch to the 30mg ir and 90 mgs barely being effective. I reported to FDA and actually got a call from a Indian gentleman working for Teva but nothing will be done.

BobH (# 784) --

Yes, exactly. Perhaps they also tell the doctor how everyone else are pill-popping junkies, but they are a Bible thumping paragon of morality!

Ever notice how the finger-pointers always have a ton of skeletons lurking in their closets? Like the fundamentalist preachers picketing the funerals of AIDS victims, only to be arrested for soliciting young boys on the internet?

This is a really stupid issue for the hypocrites to be jumping on. First of all, we are all behind computers, there is no need for debating who is a "junkie" and who is a narcoleptic pro-bono attorney who helps children/elderly who were abused. Second of all--and this will be news to those who engage in black-or-white thinking--it is perfectly possible for someone to be both. But thirdly, statement two is irrelevant at best in a discussion of prescribed drugs, and can only be used as an ad hominem attack to discredit those alarmed at the lack of efficacy of a particular generic.

Now, who would benefit from sidetracking a discussion by consumers who want exactly what they are paying for when they go to the pharmacy? Those who are in the business of quashing any complaints about the quality of generics in order to maintain profit margins. The best tool to get us all to shut up is by using the bogeyman of "drug addict!" It works on chronic pain patients, who now suffer drastically lowered quality of life. Everyone becomes too busy separating the "evil drug abusers" from the "valid" pain/ADHD/narcolepsy patients to see the scam perpetuated by those profiting, which is exactly what the profiteers of poor generics want: Sow discord and paranoia, divide and conquer, silence valid complaints by stating that anyone unsatisfied with their meds "just wants to get high", which is damnable in Puritan America.

In a climate where doctors are (justifiably) terrified to prescribe or continue prescribing mild pain-relieving Schedule 2's even for in agony terminal cancer patients, I highly doubt doctors are literally handing out a much less needed Schedule 2 like Adderall for a condition like ADHD which doesn't even cause physical pain, much less impending death. Anyone who has a doctor's prescription for stimulants in this climate is less of a junkie at this point than the average person without one.

But you know what? Even if every other person on this board was "just drug seeking", I DON'T CARE as I am not their doctor. It doesn't negate the premise that medications should contain exactly what they are supposed to and not what they're not. Nor does it negate the fact that all people deserve help for their afflictions, including those that are based in the brain. I do not live in anyone else's body, nor do they live in mine, and none of us has the right to presume what is going on in there.

Those who haven't outgrown high school, go to one of the many "where can I find a doctor in Buttland Texas who will give me Adderall without an ADHD diagnosis?" on here and call them drug-seekers, because they are. As long as you're here attacking those with a diagnosis and prescription trying to get to the bottom of a long-standing problem in a notoriously corrupt and secretive billion-dollar industry, I will simply assume that you are part of it in some way. I will not dignify your thought-terminating juvenile mud-slinging with a response.

If those of us prescribed Adderall are "drug seekers" when we aim to find a generic on par with actual brand name Adderall, are our doctors "drug pushers" when they give us prescription for a different drug that's brand name/specify a generic, while agreeing with us that most recent generics are sub-par for reasons beyond our own bodies and minds? What about doctors who themselves have ADHD or a chronic pain condition who also believe something odd is going on with Schedule 2 medications? What about all the other threads, here and on other boards, where patients bemoan the state of generics that aren't Schedule 2 meds, or even scheduled meds at all! Are they junkies too?

If you are not "in the business" and are just a scared pawn who doesn't want to imagine that the highers-up might not be acting in good faith and therefore tries to discredit and silence anyone who doesn't swallow the party line, you need to brush up on America's history of drug prohibition and demonization of the "junkie" as a social tool against racialized people deemed "undesirable", the history of prohibition, the development of for-profit prisons, and the recent "opioid crisis" as a means of promoting super expensive non-opioid drugs for chronic illnesses. Non-contextual black-and-white thinking leads to an ignorant populace who, in their mindless acceptance of the societal scripts of the day, often gleefully act against their own interests.

AMEN to that !!!

I must admit, in my 65 year old naivety I hadn't thought about the likelihood that these "accusers" are very likely trolls paid by an historically unethical industry.

By the intensity of your post you are clearly an addict seeking a "high" from your prescription medication. Before you get your liberal mind in a twist, remember that America is a Christian nation. It always has been.

When anyone uses EVERYONE, ALWAYS, NEVER AND THEY ARE 100% POSITIVE (without actually having DNA in hand) leaves room for much questioning on their thinking. Maybe its time to hand out the Mirror. Owning our own actions, taking responsibility for our own health. Isn't this what the 2018 year is all about? Ask questions, get proactive. Don't be shy with our Doctors and/or pharmacist. Most of us haven't gone to medical school, nor ever will. What we learn about meds is what little to no info given. Then we get advertisements, news clippings that drugs are tampered with or that drugs have been played with in their dosage. You're not God. Don't talk about issues you clearly think you may be the judge and jury. Move on to another site or sit back and hear what many are talking about. You may be surprised and learn a thing or 2. Peace & Soul.

Re: Charlene (# 848) Expand Referenced Message

Hi, the adderall ir by Teva formally Teva/Barr 20 mgs 2-3 times per day completely stopped working in May/June 2018. It Literally felt like nothing but I gave it 2 weeks because I finally after a year I found my “sweet spot” I never abused them but I got my refills of 20’s and from one day to the next they simply didn’t work.
My pdoc put me on 30 ir Tevas I ended up at 60 this last few months now I’m up to 90 and feel irritated, bloated gain 15lbs. There is way my tolerance went up from one day to the next!

I requested to try 20’s again 2-4 times a day but I wish there was another brand. So yes the generic ir comes on 10-20-30 and maybe 15. Yes I broke them up my pdoc advised me to play with the dose.
I’m usually 110, 5’2 and never just gain wait but I know it’s this awful generic!

Re: Dierdre (# 846) Expand Referenced Message

Hey DeeDee, guess what? Just because I or others take medications, doesn't make us dumb. I am a consultant, I work at medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers, fixing their problems when the FDA bothers to show up. I'm a Chemist, have 2 degrees in Engineering, and a Business Degree; I have worked for over 20+ years in Quality Assurance. At 24, i worked for Glaxo-Wellcome helping to manufacture the first AIDS cocktail, AZT, also Digoxin (heart medicine) - you look at this stuff wrong and it will kill you, stop your heart in a second, the amount of actual medicine in a pill is so small it can't be seen with the naked eye. It's made from a plant, the African Violet.

So tell me, what do you know about pharmaceutical manufacturing? Do you know the approval processes? ANDA, PMA, 510k, then there's generics, all you have to do, is say, "my generic, works just like the brand name", you don't have to do the same research, you don't have to do the same clinical studies, then there's biologics, where we grow pharmaceuticals using organic material, to match the chemical dna, ALMOST, and again, you just say, "hey look, our dna strand looks kinda like theirs....it must be the same, we grew it in a petri dish, it's living material...."

No i doubt you know any of this. So what's responsibility have to do with it? Do you think insurance companies like generics because they are better? NO, it's because they're cheaper!! Do you know where most are made? In India, or China, Do you know how many FDA people there are in India or China, about 15. 15. not 100's, do you think they go to each nasty plant, that doesn't clean stuff before making, drugs after they just made Christy poo-poo doll with plastics in the same containers? Really?

FDA Medwatch is where you report it. and/or the manufacturer, it then becomes a 'customer complaint' which has to be recorded, tracked and investigated by the manufacturer. under 21CFR Part 210,211

At my first job at Glaxo, I worked for probably the smartest guy ever, I'll leave his name out, but he told me, "Never take a Generic!" "Why?" I asked. He said, "Well, we are the best in the world at making drugs, but even when were done, there's a small portion of the pill that we don't know what's in there; now can you imagine other manufacturers (Generics) have, when they don't clean their vessels properly" Part of the job we had was the 3rd level of Quality Checks, before it went to the final check that became the official record, we also did 'Cleaning Validation' so we worked on ensuring everything was clean before starting a batch. You'd be surprised how many things get 'dropped' or fall into a batch, while we would test and if we could tell it caused a problem would dump the product down the drain, 100's of thousands of dollars worth. Do you think they do that in China or India? I doubt it. I used to make small batches in the laboratory, just 1 gallon of a pure drug, was worth $100,000.

Re: Dierdre (# 846) Expand Referenced Message

Dr's don't know anything about drugs except what's in the literature and what the hot sales lady tells them. They are not chemists. They are not pharmacists. They don' t do studies. Unless they are a Dr. who does studies, who doesn't see actual patients. Stop thinking Dr's are god, they are not, they just read books and drive mercedes and are in debt and have 2.5 wives they're paying for. It's all trial and error, "here take this pill" did it work? No, ok, try this other pill, did it work? no. Ok, then try this other pill.

Re: Mssixty (# 849) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you so much for your time to get with me. My doctor seems to be playing games.one visit he will give me 20 mg x3 the next visit I see him he seems very grumpy and gives me only 2 day and says that's all anyone's needs. On utube is a doctor Charles parker who says not everyone is the same so different does for each individual. So I have the teva the are orange. When I only am allowed 2 a day I find myself running out at the end of the month. That's not good..I want to ask for the 30mg x 3 it seems that's the sweet spot for me.some times mine tastes very sweet when I put them on my tongue. Are the supposed to taste that way...I read everyone seems to be having the Same problem as me thinking I'm not getting my adhd under control so at the moment I feel lost and confused expeccily with my adhd I'm scattered all over nothing is organized or getting done and I'm more sleepy. I just wanted to see if they did come in 30s so u just gave me the answer it helps me out a lot thx again

Re: Charlene (# 854) Expand Referenced Message

You’re welcome and your doctor is very wrong. In fact, the first 2 years I was prescribed adderall after being diagnosed by a psychologist then got second opinions from 2 psychiatrists I indeed had inattentive ADD which brought on anxiety. I was so afraid to take adderall because I’d only seen and heard the worst so for those 2 years I underdosed, I would take it for 2 weeks then stop and then stop for months. I was at one time taking 5mgs every 2 hours, then 10mgs and it was just enough to aggregate my receptors. There’s a threshold I learned once my psychiatrist said I’m getting no benefit only side effects from low dose plus I had the geomind pharmaceutical test and I’m a immediate metabolized. So the extended release would hit fast and hard, Vyvnase was a nightmare and I have this issue with anesthesia waking up in middle of all 4 surgeries I’ve had.

Anyways, find a psychiatrist if you can who specializes in ADD I have a great relationship with mine and he gets it. 60 mgs was perfect until Teva went to hell and now it just seems to make me irritable, scattered, weight gain and I feel nothing, meaning it doesn’t work. If you’re a female ADD medication does not work near as well in your luteal phase when progesterone is high. Yes, they’re sweet but the 30mgs ir are harder this refill then before and I plan to try a different generic or go back and try Teva 20mgs. Now it’s caffeine all day!!!

Has anyone else had any liver issues being on the TEVA brand adderall? Could be a coincidence but I had blood work done recently and my liver enzymes are elevated. I’m not an addict, not a heavy drinker and I don’t take aspirin... It is the holidays and I’m not even allowed to have some wine or anything alcohol (first world problems I know). I’m willing to bet it’s because of this crappy generic ??

Re: Stuart522 (# 852) Expand Referenced Message

Nobody, including myself, believes you worked for Glaxosmithkline, regularly "dropped things into a batch while testing...", and as a former Glaxosmithkline employee is telling people to avoid generics. Why? Because it doesn't make sense. People don't buy name-brand, because they can't afford to, and insurance carriers mandate generics when they are available. And "dropping things into a batch while testing?" And "there's a small portion of the pill that we don't know what's in there?" Why? Why doesn't Glaxo know entirely what's in their product? The compounds used are so specific, that there's no reason why that should be the case.

Elevated liver enzymes and other liver issues are a clear sign of heavy amp usage. Generic or brand names make no difference to addictions.

Re: Daniel505 (# 857) Expand Referenced Message

I will mention what my m.d. told me about generics....is when the pills are on the assembly line for inspection is when they find one that's something wrong with it, is they just take the one out and toss it..meaning if they find even just one that they should toss the whole batch,. If something is wrong with just one, chance are something is wrong with every single pill that follows from that batch..now I will add this was not coming from my adhd doctor..just came from my health doctor. Because I had brought up that I felt something was wrong with my tablets of buprenorphine. She said it could be I need brand name or a different generic because of the different inactive ingredients in the pills..I'm not disagreeing or agreeing with anyone just making a statement about different generics that I'm just finding out and never knew. Thx and merry Christmas or/happy holiday's to you

Re: Charlene (# 859) Expand Referenced Message

That sounds about right, Charlene. I know that one generic is different from another generic, given the differences in fillers and other inactive ingredients. For instance, Sandoz adderall does nothing for me, while Teva/Barr does. (Or did, I haven't taken Barr for about 6 years. I hear it's changed. Now I take name-brand sustained-release adderall. Merry Christmas to you too, Charlene!
