Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 3)

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

I asked my pharmacist to check for any other manufacturers. He searched his data base and told me that all Adderall was now being manufactured by Teva.

Todd Curl wrote an interesting article, dated 09 June 2010, titled "Teva Pharmaceuticals and Poor Quality Generic Drugs". This article mentions that shortly after Teva became the only manufacturer of Adderall in 2008, many medications were voluntarily recalled. Teva was using low quality precursor materials and lacked manufacturing oversight. Adderall was one of the recalled medications. At the time, it contained too much medication.

This is from another article that I read: The FDA requires that you get between 80% to 125% of the brand name drug activity from a generic medication, compared to the original drug. There is more variability added if you get your generic from different vendors, as one may pack 80% of “effective” drug and another one 120%, for example. Components other than active ingredients are not required to be identical and the formulation could potentially affect how the drug is delivered to your blood stream. Regarding the controls, the FDA admitted that some generics had not been evaluated, and even pulled one out from the market.

I know you can't believe everything you read on the internet, but I know when a generic drug is inferior.

Is it possible that the hunger could be due to it being "that time of the month"? I usually don't get this hungry in general but the last week I have been insane with hunger and today I got my friend. Normally I don't get ome but every so often I will. I really hope that is what is causing the hunger bc no matter how much I eat I am still starving.

THAT WAS TWELVE YEARS AGO..... Do you think you might have built some resistance to the drug by now? I TOO have taken them over 12 years. The tolerance is noticeable. Even after 1 year the tolerance builds up. The long acting 30 Mg. capsules have a time release mode in them. When you overlap the 12 h formulation with another you will get a larger build up. So do not think one is really that much better than another. It simply doesn't work that way. If you take 4 h tablets every 3 hours you might feel more energy for awhile. Eventually, the tolerance will again be an issue with ANY drug after years of use. Even doubling the dose will ONLY work for awhile to reduce that darned reduction of effectiveness.

I think Kim must be from Teva. There is no way you take their current formulation and not notice the previous formulation was 4x stronger. You don't go from effective to resistant overnight, but I did and my stepdaughter did. My stepdaughter had such a problem with ADHD behavior at school the school started giving her stars for each class to encourage good behavior. Her results were so-so until she went on medication. After that, for months she was getting five stars out of five at school 80% of her time there (4 days out of 5 she got five stars, the 5th day four). The new batch arrived and we both started it. I suddenly needed 3 or 4 times the dose and she, a seven year old, instantly went back to her baseline, pre-medication score at school of an average of 2 or 3 stars. We didn't tell her the medication was a new batch and we didn't tell the teacher who was scoring her until a few weeks later.

If anyone is currently getting different results then it is because their local pharmacy is still carrying the old stock. My child is going to be missing her education and I'm damned if I'm going to raise her dose because next thing Teva will multiply the active ingredient by 4 and my child will have a heart attack.

I want to know what other brand she uses in comparison to Teva's Adderall. Neither I nor my pharmacist can find another company that manufacturers it. I knew it was inferior before I finished my first bottle. I took their version of Vicoprofen for over a year, complaining that it didn't work-until I got one pill that knocked my socks off. I quit them 'cold turkey' and expected withdrawal symptoms, but I didn't even break a sweat. I noticed no difference at all. That's when I contacted the FDA, a total waste of time. Teva tested their own drug and declared to the FDA that it was just fine, hunky-dory, nothing wrong. Generic Cymbalta is a joke, no matter who makes it. It's so bad that even Walmart offered real Cymbalta to my niece as a preferred drugs. Doctors won't even allow her to take generic thyroid medication. At least Medicare is paying for this worthless crap, even though I have to pay for the drug policy, but that's a rant for another day.
The Adderall I took this morning isn't working, I just want to eat and lie in bed. All I care about is exposing this rip-off drug company and the FDA, which is a waste of taxpayer dollars, like most government agencies have become lately.

I'm NOT from TEVA. AGAIN- your issue is one of time related resistance or TOLERANCE to your medication. Even after weeks the strength weakens and is noticeable. One simply cannot expect the drug to work as well as when you started. I'm not saying that all batches of drugs are spot on identical. They may differ a small small amount. But all and all they are really alike. If you want to expect a distinct high like when you first started then stop completely for a least a year. STILL, you WILL NOT HAVE THE SAME EFFECT AS WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED.

Last week or so Teva recalled two batches of amphetamine salts 10mg pills that have been distributed for the past two years. They made "uneven batches" which made the effects from the pills different from script to script. It is likely that this happens or happened often and only these two lot numbers have been reported enough to get them recalled.

I am taking 20 mg of the name brand twice a day and still hungry. I recently read that it could be too much acid in my stomach mimicking hunger pains and to take tums before the Adderall. The amount of hunger pains seems to change day to day.

Teva products don't work. I've complained about every Teva generic. The Adderall I'm taking is hit and miss. One day it doesn't work, another day it's too strong. Teva is the only company that makes Adderall and they do a shoddy job. The FDA needs to get off their asses and test ALL Teva products, like I asked them to do last year. Do your research before you accuse people of being addicts or looking for a high.

I take it for ADD, not to feel high. Pills from one bottle are non-effective or too strong. I'm on 30 mg, 1/2 tab b.i.d., and the half I took Thursday made me too dizzy to stand up. I KNOW when I get one that's substandard and noticed the difference in strengths with my first bottle of Adderall. I've complained to the FDA about Teva, a waste of time since they let Teva test their own products. Look up Forbes article from 10/10/12 on the internet about Teva's fake Wellbutrin, that should scare everyone. Please don't assume we're addicts looking for a high, some of us depend on these medications and take them as prescribed by our doctors.

It is my understanding that there is no longer a name brand Adderall IR. only XR put out by Shire? Barr is supposed to be the closest generic to original brand name Adderall originally manufactured by Shire till they lost the patent. So only generic IR Adderalls... ?

Makes sense. Teva bought Barr a couple years ago. I usually have 5mg Barr IR. My Dr changed it to 10mg IR. CVS gave me Teva this time around and it is all side effects. It feels like nothing for a couple hours and then I feel like I have ADD worse than when I don't take any medication. I can't hold a thought, I interrupt people, I start 17 things at once, and I blurt out rude things to others. Plus I feel either starving or nauseous after I eat. I don't urinate as much though. My pharmacy won't take them back.

Kim, I have both the old and new pill 30mg from Teva/Barr. When I take the old formula it works the new makes me sick. Its that simple. Ive been fine for 8 years on the meds and notice a little difference if the med is older but for the most part its good enough not to say anything until now. There is a huge difference.

I wanted to clarify what I was trying to say in my first post. I was responding to Kim's claim that we've grown a tolerance to the Adderall. About a month ago I got my script filled and noticed a different shape to my Teva 30MG Adderall. It was the same oval peach colored pill but was skinnier top to bottom. I didnt think anything of it and continued taking my normal dose however, it didnt have the same affect. I break the 30mg up into 4's then take as needed. So I still had some of my older prescription mixed in with the new batch and the effect wasnt too bad as I was taking both batches. Well I stopped taking the old batch and began the new and I went into withdraws. I felt awake but not motivated to do anything at first and then as the week went on I couldnt do anything other than sleep and eat. If I take the new batch I'm angry, I have anxiety, dont like to be around people, even worse I dont want to do any work in school or at my job. This has never happened. This is actually the opposite of who I am, I'm always super happy and love people and doing work. I also noticed the sweet taste is gone and there's a bitter taste to the Adderall. I've been on the medication for 8 years so I know the difference. NEVER have I had this happen. I went to the pharmacy to talk with the pharmacist, who didnt notice the shape change as well as he hadn't heard of any formula change. I showed him the the new shape to the pill and asked if anyone had complained yet, he said no. This pharmacy is in between to major Universities so I assume the new batch just arrived and everyone is still trying to figure out what happened. I went back to our school (Utah Valley University) nurse who did say others were noticing the difference and asking for new prescriptions. I notified the FDA and submitted a complaint to Teva. They called back asking several questions then assured me there wasn't a formula change. I've been battling withdraw symptoms on the new medication, sleeping and eating all day and not motivated to do anything. There's an active ingredient or filler that has been taken out which is the very ingredient thats made this medication work for me over the years. CAN ANYONE RELATE TO WHAT I'M SAYING OR AM I CRAZY. ALSO HAS ANYONE MADE A SWITCH TO A NEW WORKING FORM OF ADDERALL?

Hey Chris, I can totally relate to what you're saying! I wonder if you go on the FDA website and search "Teva Amphetamine Salts" if you will find anything? It seems like a lot of people have noticed formulation changes. I have taken Barr IR 5mg tabs for the past 6 months and they are the only thing I don't have weird reactions to. I switched to namebrand XR by Shire a few days ago for my morning dose, and I have noticed side effects. I'm hoping they are just an adjustment to the brand switch. I did notice that when my doctor wrote the prescription for namebrand she wrote that I have an allergy for "amphetamine aspartate" after trying the actavis brand of XR with really bad side effects (no Therapuetic benefit AT ALL or notice that I took any meds for the first 6 hours and then sudden onset paranoia, anxiety, flu type feeling, ect. I looked up the amphetamine aspartate and it appears that certain manufacturers use that (Sandoz, Core Pharmacy), and others use aspartate amphetamine monohydrate instead (including Shire, Barr, Teva). I wonder if that somehow effects us each personally with delivery of meds. Also, depending on the dyes used in the pills, and apparently how tight they press the pill- that could cause allergies, and delivery problems. I am willing to bet they changed a dye in your generic and maybe you have an allergy to the new one? I would see if you could look up the NDC on your old script to find the label with the ingredients list, and so the same for your new script!!
