I have shingles and was given this cream. I complained about the nerve pain in my back and side but on the bottle it says to put on the lesions. That's not what is hurting me. Should I send it back (it's unopened) or try to rub where I'm hurting so much? ## Hello, Katruna! How are you? Yes, this would be specifically to treat the lesions, since it has the antiviral Acyclovir in it. The other two ingredients are Lidocaine and Gabapentin to help with pain. Its typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include skin redness, dryness, itching and irritation. It would be best to check with your doctor, before using it on other areas.

Acyclovir 200 mg. 2x a day. Can the side effect,"change in the amount of urine" in older people, apply to INCREASE in the amount of urine?(male, age 90) undergoing chemo. ## Hello, Ann! How are you? No, that's not a common side effect of Acyclovir, the FDA lists the most common ones as including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and headache. However, most times, when someone is prescribed this medication, they are told to drink a lot of water, or are given a lot of water by their care givers, which could explain the change in urine volume. In rare cases, this medication has caused kidney crystals, which could lead to kidney failure, so most people are told to take it with lot of water, to help prevent this from occurring. Would like to know what kind of pill this is. ## Based on my research, I've only come across one pill that actually closely resembles your description of the pill. The one I found is a 400mg Acyclovir tablet, used for treating herpes simplex. It's a white oblong-shaped tablet with a large capital "A" that has a partial vertical line (like this "/") going through the side of it... and right next to the letter A is the following set of numbers "5306"; no markings on the backside. For verification, the manufacturer is reported to be Apotex and the tablet itself carries a National Drug Code of 60505-5306. Does this sound like it could be a possible match?
