My mom was given Acyclovir 800 mg to take 5 times a day. What does that mean??? ## 24/5=4.8 hours or 288 minutes or 4 hours & 48 minutes ## Your math is right, but should we take the number of waking hours and divide by 5 rather than the entire 24 hour period? So accounting for sleep, 16 hours awake / 5 times = 3.2, so about every 3.5 hours? Update - I looked up the Acyclovir dosage guidelines on DailyMed, and it states "800 mg every 4 hours orally, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days." ... So it seems like somewhere in the middle of both of our answers lol

I purchased clorixan 200 ml in Mexico for cold sores. I take one pill as soon as I feel a sore developing. It has worked so well that I would like to keep them on hand. What exactly is clorixan? ## Clorixan contains Acyclovir, it is an antiviral that is commonly used to treat most herpes simplex viruses, both genital, and oral, which is why it works so well. I take it myself, twice a day, every day, as a preventative, because one of the medications I am on can cause horrible cold sore outbreaks, which landed me in the ER several times, with several swelling in and around my mouth. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, diarrhea, taste disturbance and drowsiness. It is available in the U.S. by prescription, so you might wan...

I have about 29 days left in my pregnancy, if he doesn't come early and im just trying to figure out what to do to get rid of the outbreaks and keep them gone until after I have my baby. I got another outbreak today and have been on the pill for weeks now, like 3 going on 4, and I dont think my midwife knows what shes talking about. ## Are you certain that it's herpes? It very rarely breaks out like that, there are usually times where you are definitely symptom free and it recurs every few months, not several times a month. If it...

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and flatulence. Are you on any other medications?

I have developed 2 cold sores. Can Amox-Clav help cure them? They are very tender to the touch and my lips are swollen. ## Hello, Laura! How are you doing? I am sorry about the cold sores, I know how horrible they can be. And no, an antibiotic will not do anything to help, since they are caused by a virus. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications?

An friend gave me a bottle of acyclovir over two years old can it still be used for the same purpose at this time, or has it lost its affectiveness completely. With no symptons at this time I will often use this medicine unexpired of course just for its clealiness qualities in the vaginal area. ## It has probably not lost all of its effectiveness, completely, but if it is in a bottle that has been opened, such as one from a pharmacy and not a factory sealed bottle, then it does start to lose effectiveness, after a year. This is not one of the ones that gets dangerous or toxic, after its expiration, but it will probably not be as effective, as it was, when it was new. The effectiveness duration can also be affected by other factors, such as storage, because heat, moisture and light will ...
