Will acidophilus keep Bactrim DS from working as effectively?

Bactrim DS is an antibiotic that contains the active ingredients Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim and no, there are no problems listed between taking it and Acidophilus, though you should check with your doctor or pharmacist to be certain.

This medication may cause side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness, skin rash and diarrhea.

I"ve been taking Bactrim DS on alternate days for a number of years. Although aware of the need to balance an anti-biotic with acidophilus pills, it didn't occur to me until moments ago that this may apply to Bactrim DS. I would be very grateful for any guidance on this matter.

Why have you been taking it for that long?

Prolonged use of an antibiotic creates the very real risk of developing antibiotic resistance. This means that if you get an infection, it may not respond to treatment with most antibiotics and could place you in very real danger.
