605 Blue Xanax Gave Me Hives!!

I've been taking xanax for many years now, but i recently got these blue ones with a 605 on them...and now i'm getting awful hives all over my body. Why could this be?? Is it because of a different filler in the pill? Because i know im not allergic to alprazolam itself. So what could this be?

It sounds to me like you may be experiencing an allergic reaction to one or more inactive ingredients (binders/fillers) in the tablet. When you switch brand names or manufacturers the drug itself doesn't change, but rather the binders or fillers that they put with it. This means you're probably taking in certain ingredients such as corn starch, lactose, or some other filler that your body isn't agreeing with.

Listed below are the Inactive Ingredients present in the blue alprazolam pills:

lactose monohydrate
corn starch
microcrystalline cellulose
silicon dioxide
povidone k30
docusate sodium
sodium benzoate
magnesium stearate
FD&C Blue No. 2

I hope this helps shed some light on why you might be breaking out. Are you able to ask your doctor for a different brand/prescription?

WOW buddy... Thanks a lot!! Thats actually a huge help and very much appreciated. Anyway, I already switched back...but I'm just now FINALLY getting over the hives. Doc said it could take 3-7 days basically to flush completely out, and im on day 3, but not in neeeearly as much pain and agony as I was yesterday or the day before.
