48 Hrs No Methadon, Dr Said To Take Suboxone, Scared!!

I was son 20-30 mg. methadone for a yr. Trying to switch to Suboxone.Stupidly went to treament center that will not give subutex. I have not taken Methadone for 48 hrs, miserable, but scared to take any suboxone. Might try 1 mg. Thoughts? OH, my Dr was worthless, need to findnew on in Dayton Ohio area.

Are you worried about the two drugs counteracting with each other? What's the concern about trying a 1mg of suboxone?

52 hrs -took 1/2 mg. suboxone, did great, going to take 1/2 more and see how I do.

K guys, praise God doing ok so far. NOT thrown into precipitated withdraw! Taken 1 mg. going for 2 mg within the hr. Maybe this will help the next guy flipping to suboxone. Dr. a jerk for not giving me subutex. Feel terrible but at least I can start to take suboxone bit by bit today. I do have support here, not alone.

That's good to hear. I know that when I was switching from suboxone back to traditional pain medicine after reinjuring my previously broken (fractured l4-l5) back with new herniated disks in the same place I was able to take Percocet within 12 - 18 hours with no noticeable side effects. I think at this point you should be fine.

In my research I often read about 72 hours being the magic number when it comes to waiting in between transitioning from Methadone to Suboxone. However, in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms I still think it would be wise to work closely with your doctor on determining on a time frame to take your Suboxone. Better safe than sorry in my opinion.

This information may not matter now since you've already made the jump, but for future reference, a 3 day waiting period seems to be the most common response in other related threads here. I guess the whole idea is to be in at least a partial opioid withdrawal, otherwise the buprenorphine could send you into precipitated withdrawals.

Finding the appropriate time frame may vary from patient to patient, based on a number of factors, but I hope this can at least help as a guideline. Good luck to you!
