This pill has no crush protection ( ms contine ER) ect... Can it be cut in quarters and used with
Oxicontine 30 mg

Can swim take the purple er protection of a 30 mg MS Contin,cut it in quarters and swallow it. That's only 7.5 a quarter what's the prob.

I'm not a doctor, but logically, it does make sense to do the math first so you know exactly what you're taking and how you're taking it (if you plan on dividing it up). In that sense, I don't see any harm being done personally.

However, when it comes to extended-release medications, I wouldn't recommend tampering with them at all. This is just my own personal preference for safety reasons. It's just not worth the risk to me, since you never really know how it's going to effect you until you try it. Even if you cut it into divided doses, doing so can still be dangerous for those who may have a lower tolerance or are new to taking it.

If you don't want to worry about the safety of what you're intending on doing, it would probably be worth while to ask your doctor for a different form of morphine or even lowering your dose of it. The immediate release tablets in a smaller dose might also prove to be more versatile when it comes to taking it in smaller increments - if you eventually have plans to taper off altogether.
