1 All Methyltestosterone Now Classified As Controlled Substance

Updated

I am a 55 year old woman on hormone replacement .I have to get my prescription through mail order, and they wrote and said " medications that contain methyltestosterone have now been classified as a controlled substance". I take a estrog/methyl 1.25/2.5 every day . They also say that due to a new law through DEA I will now have to get my prescription as a 6 month supply or 5 refills max. Can you tell me if this is true or are they just jerking people around?

Actually, it's been classified that way since 1990, under the Anabolic Steroids Act, it just hasn't been enforced previously.

Learn more Methyltestosterone details here.

There have been a lot of crackdowns happening recently to force pharmacies to start complying with laws that they were previously ignoring.

So yes, it is true.

Are there any other questions or comments?

I received the same letter and am in the same situation. I have been taking EEMT 1.25/2.5 for five years. Now I'm having to jump through hoops every six months just to get my prescription refilled. The DEA overstepped it's authority on this call.

this is a bunch of BS! I take this also and I found an exemption classification for 1994 that states the following...Title: Section 80.3 - Exceptions, reclassification and exemptions of scheduled controlled substances

80.3 Exceptions, reclassification and exemptions of scheduled controlled substances. (a) Exemptions.

(1) Those nonnarcotic substances listed in section 1308.22 of title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations, currently and as thereinafter amended, are excepted from the application of sections 3306 and 3319 of the Public Health Law.

(2) Those drugs, which are restricted by law to dispensing on prescription, listed in section 1308.32 of title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations, currently and as thereinafter amended, are excepted from the application of sections 3306 and 3319 of the Public Health Law.

(3) Those chemical preparations and mixtures listed in section 1308.24 of title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations, currently and as thereinafter amended, are excepted from the application of sections 3306 and 3319 of the Public Health Law.

(4) The following compounds, mixtures or preparations containing a narcotic antagonist substance having no potential for abuse, and being excepted or exempted from control under the Federal Controlled Substances Act (21 USC 801 et seq.) are excepted from the application of sections 3306 and 3319 of the Public Health Law:

(i) naloxone and its salts; and

(ii) naltrexone and its salts.

(b) Reclassifications. The following drugs listed in schedule II(c) of section 3306 of the Public Health Law are hereby reclassified as schedule III substances.

I found the latest published exemption list on the DEA website date 12/14/2012 that also has the combination HRT drugs listed as exempt. This friggin MEDCO/Express Scripts is a bunch of liars.

Not just mail order. I can't get mine refilled through my local Walgreens because it's 3 days to early. They used to let me refill it 6 or 7 days in advance. Now I have to wait until I run out. This is ridiculous!

Verwon Please view this page. deadiversion.usdoj.gov/21cfr/cfr/1308/1308_34a.htm

My prescription is for Estratest. It's right there on the exempt list, not even 1/3 of the way down the page. There is also a PDF version of the same list dated last month yet Medco/ExpressScripts is stating a DEA statement released in November as their reason for my having to get 4 new scripts a year for this same Rx. It is costing me an additional $240 every year due to my having to schedule appointments just to have the script renewed.

According to my pharmacist in Derby, CT, the exemption is not valid as of around a week ago. This is frustrating. I did not get any kind of letter, I went to pick up my rx and could not get it until they contact the m.d.

Effective 12/31/12 you will need a new RX every 6 months. Make sure the pharmacist puts the correct date in the computer or you will be in my shoes - I have a new RX from January and the pharmacist just added refills to my old RX - so insurance is denying the claim! Very frustrating!

My 1 year prescription was automatically altered by Rite Aid and I had to get a new prescription from my doctor today. Not sure what the powers that be think they are protecting us from. Pretty darn silly to cause more difficulty for average folks dealing with extreme menopause symptoms. I've tried numerous times to warn off HRT but the effects are severe and low dose HRT calms it down to minor hot flashes that don't persist all night. Our tax dollars at work, presumably.

It has been told to me that athletes were getting perscriptions of estrogen to take to trigger the pituitary gland to produce more testosterone for athletics and this was being abused. No help there for us menopausal woment. Also, I contacted the DEA and was told to call the Freedom of Information line 202-307-7596. We all need to call and flood their phones. Then they will know what women without their HRT will be like. haha Maybe it will help but I doubt it. Also, DEA said to try to encourage your doctors to call them at 800-882-9539.

Call your US congressman and your senator's offices. Make them explain it to you. Tell them that this is a complete inconvenience and you would like them to look into getting this taken off of the controlled substances list. Ask them to get back to you on their progress. It was formerly exempted from the list.

I am 56 years old and I have been taking Estrogen -methyltestos HRT since 1998, and today I was informed of controlled substance issue! I actually laughed at CVS when they told me this ! This is absurd!! Waiting for a response from my doctor. I will encourage my doctor to call the DEA!

Yup, verified this fact with Rite Aid, CVS, and my doctor. It's because of the testosterone added, regular estrogen HRTs are exempt. Guess our politicians feel people are abusing hormone therapy and he new max prescription is six months. Just means an additional doctor visit or call for refill scrip.

I was told by someone at Express Scripts that Covaryx is a substitute for EEMT. It is manufactured by Centrix Pharmacy.

I've taken my little green pill (est estrogen mtest tab mmne 1P 78## 1.25mg and 2.5mg methyltestosterone) for over 20 years with great results. The pretty little aqua pill just doesn't cut it. PLEASE... help! Calling doctor right now.

I have to get refills every month. I can't imagine anyone taking my Estrogen for an illegal purpose? What can it do to/ for them? Are football players trying to grow boobs? Do baseball players want to experiance female emotions? WHY is the government making it so difficult for women to get their meds? HOW is my Estrogen going to affect anyone?

I just went to have my Eemt filled and they told me the same thing. I've been taking estratest for 30 years and when I turned 65 my insurance wouldn't cover it. So my doctor prescribes something without test in it. I tried 2 different pills and thougnt I would die from sweating. Finally, she wrote me a prescription for eemt and I paid for it myself. Now, the pharmacy says I need a new prescription and it's a controlled substance Oh, am I mad. The powers that be do not want to be around me without my hormones.
