i have recently been prescribed zanaflex. I was told it's a mix of xanax and flexirl. I was just wondering if anyone else has taken the drug and does food really effect it. ## Hi. I just had back surgery 10 days ago. Because of the length and sverity of my condition (a double herniaton of the L-5 disc) I have had severe muscle spasms all up and down both legs and in my back. It just so happens that I have just completed my certivicate in drug and alcohol rehab counseling., and am finishing up a course in PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY. I've just started taking this drug, since I told my doctor that I can't handle FLEXERIL, which is NOT an anti-inflamitory or a muscle relaxer. Flexeril is a benzodiazapine - a sedative, which is why it is sometimes prescribed for muscle pain. There is NO ...

I was just wondering if anyone out there has over-used zanaflex? I am ashamed to admit I did. I was just so desperate to sleep at night. One or two wasn't cutting it so I started going up to 6, 7, or 8 at I time. I would never ever recommend this for anyone. It was just my own desperation and stupidity. I have always had giant tolerances to everything. Anyway, this stuff would put me down hard, it was hard to get up and walk myself to the bathroom and the other thing was the vivid hallucinations, i have never experienced anything like it before. Everything I was seeing was so real it was scary and I would even see people and hold conversations with them. In the morning i would be completely fine. Thankfully i am in treatment for addiction now to various other substances. I just neve...

I took Zanaflex for about six months, as a muscle relaxant. I noticed that it helped with my chronic insomnia. So I tapered my "decades of use" Xanax, under the supervision of my doctor, as I increased the Zanaflex. All went great until one night. I had not stopped the Zanaflex. But I started hearing things, and seeing things (hallucinating), to the point that I was literally scared to death. Then I began vomiting and was sicker than I can remember being, even with a stomach virus. I called the pharmacist the next morning and described to her the previous night and asked if the continued vomiting that day was indicative of a terrible side effect of Zanaflex. She said that the literature printed out, and attached to the pharmaceutical when purchased, did not mention it; that the ...

dosing schedule of 4 mg. for chronic insomnia ## Hello, Kim! How are you? Zanaflex is a short active muscle relaxant, it can cause some drowsiness as a side effect, according to the FDA, but it is not useful for treating insomnia, due to its short duration of efficacy. Its other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been taking for years. No problem. I got a series of health issues in a row. I was in a lot of pain. I took way much. I never even thought I would be almost unbearable d.t s. Do you have anything that helps that is not addictive. Should I still take it lowering the dose? Or can u just deal with the agony.

A friend of mine took this zanaflex saying it was the same as xanax, just with muscle relaxers in it. I personally don't have a clue so i figured i'd ask. ## No, they are not the same. Zanaflex contains the active ingredient Tizanidine, which is just a muscle relaxant. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. Xanax, however, is a benzodiazepine, it contains the active ingredient Alprazolam. It carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, sedation, and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was taking zanaflex 3 times a day for only 5-7 days. Since stopping I have had anxiety and panic attacks. The dosage was 2mg each time. I know this seems petty but I feel as if I'm having withdraws. I ended up in the ER from a panic attack and now I'm wondering if it's because I stopped am taking zanaflex? I've never had this feeling and it's a feeling I can't overcome. How long does withdraws last? ## I'm sorry about the problems you're having. However, this medication doesn't usually cause that, especially after such a low dose for such a short period of time. Its just a muscle relaxant, so it isn't habit forming and the FDA lists its typical side effects as including nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache and dry mouth. Are you on any other ...

I have been prescribed Zanaflex for almost 2 years for muscle spasms after flexeril didn't work any longer. I also had early stages of RA for which i also take gabapentin, Xanax, and tramadol (I took myself off of Vicodin). Zanaflex has been a life saver for me. I take 8mg before bed and can sleep soundly without waking from painful spasms. The only downfalls are that I have become physically addicted, I cannot fall asleep without my zanaflex. Without it I will stay up for days, no fun! Also, it causes the most extreme drowsiness ever! Taking zanaflex during the day with four kids running around is not an option. ## HI, Mattison! Thanks for your informative post, I am sure others will gain benefit from what you've shared. As to being addicted, I am of the opinion that you're...

I've been on muscle relaxers for about 7 years, due to a neck fracture injury ending in a surgut oval nonfusion. I have chaotic pain that my pain Doctor treats with 10/325 Hyrdroco/APAP. Limit of six per day. Some days I take the maximum some days I don't depending on my activities. He substitutes my hydrocodone done with Baclofen 10 mg. his prescription says take one to two tablets by mouth three times daily as needed for muscle spasms. I rarely ever take the maximum dose. We first started out with Flexeril that worked for a little while but I needed something more. I was having severe muscle spasm's that felt like my muscles in my shoulderswere drawing up into my ears. This caused excruciating headaches. So he put me on a stronger muscle relaxer back to the van and we talk...

Compared to other painkillers, how well do these work together - oxycodone and zanaflex? ## It really depends on the person, since everyone is different. The FDA does warn that Oxycodone carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and headache. Have they both been prescribed for you? The NIH does warn that you may experience more side effects, from combining them, such as more severe dizziness, and drowsiness.

I take zanaflex 8mg 4 times a day. I was wondering if I could take an allergy relief medication with zanaflex? ## It depends on which allergy medication you wish to take, most of them may potentiate the sedative like side effects of the Zanaflex, which could result in more dizziness, drowsiness, and lethargy than usual. Can you please post back and clarify? If so, I'll be happy to provide more specific details for you!

How long does it take zanaflex to get completely out of your system? ## How long does it take for 1mg zanaflex to leave the system for UA? I might have one on Monday. ## @Terrar , Based on my research, zanaflex (tizanidine) may take anywhere from 3 to 5 days to get completely out of your system. This isn't counting your hair follicles though, which they say can take up to 90 days. I also read that even though tizanidine has a short half life of 2.5 hours, its metabolites have a significantly longer half life ranging from 20 to 40 hours; making a single dose last as long as 80 to 90 hours in your system. @Shelby (post #1): With regards to a drug panel, my understanding is that because this medication is not a controlled substance, it's likely that it wont even be checked for in a...

I am a 48 year old woman with fibromyalgia and psoriatic arthritis. At bedtime I take Zanaflex 4 MG, Tramadol 50 MG and several other meds that don’t concern me as they’re not things that would affect my heart or breathing. When I took my meds tonight I noticed that I forgot to take my noon meds so I took those as well, forgetting that I had put a 10 MG Flexeril in with them because I was having bad muscle spasms this morning. I know I shouldn’t have taken all of this together. I called poison control and he didn’t seem concerned. I have a high tolerance for pain meds and muscle relaxers anyway so I think I’m fine too, it just never hurts to ask. ## How are you doing? Did you experience any adverse effects?
