I have been on 15mg of Xarelto along with 40mg of Crestor for approximatley 8 months and have suffered through a distended abdomen and burning and aching in my hips, legs and feet. After blood tests and scans ruled out anything sinister I chose to stop taking Crestor altogether. Within a week my abdomen was no longer distented and much of the pain in my hips and legs reduced to a point where I actually got some sleep. I have now started back doing my walking and concentrating on eating everything right but my weight inexplicably is going up and up. I have also noticed my tension type headache and tinnitus which I have had both for 11 years has intensified and difficult to ignore. I can only think the weight gain can be caused by Xarelto...there seems to be no other explanation and I hav...

I worry since this drug is so new ## Hello, Diana! How are you? Everything that you've listed can be normal side effects of it, except the break outs, I've not seen that listed anywhere. Are you on any other medications? And no, the normal doses are 15mgs twice daily or 20mgs once daily. ## I too have been suffering from acne and weight gain. I have them on my cheeks, neck and upper lip. I also have gained 12 lbs. I know my body very well and i...

I'm trying to determine if weight gain is possible with Xarelto? I have been taking this for about 2 years now (20 mg). I just can't seem to loose weight and have even been to Weight Watchers. I continue to work on my weight but just curious if this pill is having an effect? I am 71 years old with A-Fib. Had an ablation 1 year ago as of next month. ## It isn't a listed side effect reported by the FDA. They typically include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. However, other users have reported weight gain while on it that did not resolve, until they stopped taking it, or switched medications. If it's that much of a concern for you, you may want to speak to your doctor about trying a different medication. Is there anything else I can...

I just started (09/29/2016) Xarelto - 15 mg 2x/day for a large DVT and multiple PE's. In one month I have ballooned 20+ lbs. My legs look like tree trunks, but feel like cement blocks. My arms and hands are swollen, and my stomach looks like I've been sucking on a helium tank. Now, to make matters worse, I started severe dizziness and nausea.....I couldn't walk a straight line if I was forced to!! I spoke with my cardiologist but he had no answers. Of course, I'm told it's probably my diet, but I know this is not the problem. This is what provoked me to search the internet. I'm obviously not the only one feeling like they should be floating in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I'm calling my PCP tomorrow!! Best of health to everyone :) ## Hello, Nicole!...

I have gained about 40 pounds in 8 months, I don't attribute all of that to xarelto, however I work out pretty vigorously, and after seeing the posts, I'm sure it has had an effect. How long does it take Xarelto to fully leave your system? ## Hello, Drew! How are you? Yes, many people have reported weight gain on Xarelto. The FDA lists its other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. How long will you be taking it? It only takes 25 to 54 hours, so not very long, once you stop it, but make sure to do so under your doctor's supervision. ## Hi Verwon....I was on a trail case study, where Bayer is testing using lower dose Xaerlto versus low aspirin or a combination of both. Started October 2015, and d...

ive been anticoagulated for 8 years. recently switched from lovenox to xarrelto. i am hoping the weight gain and the hairloss will diminish as i am lifelong on an anticoagulent. does anybody else know if these side effects end? ## Hello, Beatrice! How are you? No, from what others have said who also experienced it, such side effects do not go away. Many people have actually been unhappy with Xarelto and had to switch off of it. It may also cause joint/muscle aches and headaches. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I forgot to tell you people that being on Xarelto also has caused me to lose my hair. This has never happened to me before. ## Yes...me too. Hair loss, joint pain & weight gain on Xarelto has been acute and troublesome, for sure.

I have been on Xarelto for about a month and my weight went up 25 to 30 lbs. Before I was on Xarelto I was taking Warfin and I was gaining any extra weight. I haven't been prescripted nor taken any other medications then the medications that has prescripted to me. I would like to know is there anyone else having this problem. ## Hi Tammy, Even though weight gain is not actually listed as being a possible side effect, I've actually been seeing quite a few posts from other individuals tracing it back to Xarelto as well. Unfortunately I find that in these types of cases, it seems like the only other options are to make more drastic changes to your diet; exercise harder/longer; or just stop taking what's triggering it to begin with. If you don't want to go that route, you ca...

I still have leg pain every now and then with xarelto. I have also gain 13 lbs within 5 month period while exercising. Has anyone else had these kinds of issues? ## Unfortunately yes! Such complaints are being posted more and more often in relation to this medication. The leg pain is a listed side effect, but the weight gain is not, however, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's unrelated. Have you consulted your doctor, yet? It would be best to be safe and let them check things out, before you pinpoint the drug as being the sole cause. ## May I ask why you started taking Xarelto? If it was because of a DVT, you probably are experiencing Post Thrombotic Syndrome when your leg with have intense pain from time to time. Try wearing a compression sock daily and elevating your leg ...

Does Xarelto cause weight gain specifically. ## I wonder myself if my weight gain is from Xarelto. I have AFIB my Doctor gave me Xarelto I had a follow up in two weeks. I had decided in the meantime to lose some weight , being tired all the time I drink lots of coffee. 7-9-14 cups a day and I like them with sugar & creamer. I figure that I was drinking in between 600-800 calories at eight cups much more if I drank additional cups ( creamers can vary 20-30 cal to 50 or more). So I went cold turkey to Black coffee only and drank much less for the two weeks. I thought I would lose at least 1-2 pounds on the next visit but instead gained 8 pounds thats in two weeks time. OK I'm going to give it more time and see if something else is going on besides the Xarelto. I"ll check back ...

I had a hysterectomy a couple weeks ago and a week later had a blood clot in my right calf. I was prescribed Xarelto 2x 20mg a day. Two days later I had excessive abdominal bleeding. Was told to take only 1 pill for the next 24 hours, the bleeding didn't stop and I was told to stop taking altogether. After 24 hours no bleeding so I was told to start back up (this was just a couple hours ago). As of yesterday I have an intermittent shooting pain in my left upper leg, when it hits me the pain is so strong I almost fall to the ground...then it goes away. I have also gained 4 pounds since I started taking it. I hardly eat as I'm still on paid meds from my surgery so it sounds like this may be a side effect as well. Anything on this horrible leg pain I am suddenly having? It hasn...

I had a deep vein clot in my leg. after having surgery I started taking Xarelto. Having takin it for 8 months now I have gained 58 pounds, and my heart seems to pump extra hard while trying to do activities. I was an infantry soldier and construction worker so I am used to physical activity. DID anyone else seem to gain weight and hold water? I can't seem to loose this weight. ## Hello, David! How are you? It isn't a listed side effect of this medication, but you are not the first person to post about this problem, which means it most likely is the cause. However, the best thing to do would be to consult your doctor to be safe, so they can check for any other issues that could be causing it. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes. 'Been on Xarelto for 8 mos. and gain...

I'm on xeralto for over a year and a half for 2 dvts and one pulmonary embolism. I've gained some weight, 25 lbs but I am a huge eater, but more interesting I always have a very distended belly, some have mentioned this in the forum. It's not an easy choice as to any alternatives because vaginal I can get a clot and die very easily. Alternatives such as garlic, ginger, omega 3, vit e, are Clancy at best. So what is one to do? I'm extremely fatigued too. I didn't even think if this is because of the xeralto! Thanks all here, I love you all, we are in this together, it is a very New treatment for lupus hypercogulation which many of us have, a genetic disposition to clotting. ## Hello, David! How are you? I had to take Xarelto due to two sinus venous thrombosis in my head. 8 weeks of heparin injections showed no side effects. But with the first day of taking Xarelto my body reacted by retaining water. Within the first three weeks I gained 24.46 lb hill exercising 5 times a week and eating as I always did. After retaining more and more water I stopped taking it after three months. I started with a weight of 120 lb at a height of 5''8 and now I weigh 157 lb. I have to ad that I started taking it in the middle of March and stopped taking it at the end of June. I was not able to loose any water/weight. I eat less than I always did before even while I exercise. All doctors couldn't find the one thing that changed through Xarelto. Has anybody ever experienced something like this wh...

60 year old triathlete in perfect condition had severe stroke with hemiplegia. First 18 months steady recovery... feeling well, no weight gain. 6 months after stroke I'm back training 6-8 hour (bike ride, weight training and swimming) per week. However, 3 month ago doctor insisted I start Xarelto (this was the only change in a very structured life). Since then I've put on 20 pounds, started retaining water like crazy, all the while on the strict training schedule and diet. Now I'm having so many muscle pain and strains, especially in the legs and shoulders that I've had to stop training. Now the weight is really piling up and the BP is getting hard to control. ## Yes, Xarelto has been known to cause these types of side effects, you are not the first person to report such...

Doctor wants me to start this twice a day(15mg= 30) due to clots in my leg and after reading all this blogging I am terrified to take it. I cant imagine gaining all my weight back and then some. I just got off Victoza cause I brought my sugar down from losing 20 lbs. That would really be a bummer, Then all these side effects and all the swelling and bloating too man oh man. I'm pretty scared to take the pill!...Wont ASPIRIN fix these clots? ## Sometimes, Aspirin isn't enough to do it. What details about it have scared you? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. ## Well after reading All the posts these people are writing about regarding it and all the legal suits seen on TV, it reall...

I have been on 20mg xarelto for almost 3 months now after having a DVT come up. I am supposed to have an ultrasound at the end of the month to see if the clot is gone so that I can stop taking it. I have multiple side effects happening. I have numbness and tingling in my feet, where it started and now it is moved up my leg to mid thigh as well as my hands and now moved up to my biceps. I teach yoga, work out daily and have been noticing a distended belly and weight gain for sure. I notice if I keep my arms bent for too long it cuts off circulation and my hands go numb which wakes me up at night and have also had pain between my shoulders regularly that I thought was just from spending too much time at my computer but am now wondering if it has to do with the drug. I am hoping that my cl...

I took 30 mg a day from3 weeks, then dropped it to 20 mg per day. About 6 days after dropping to 20 mg, I started to get pain in joints, primarily hands, feet, knees, elbows, etc. I am being treated for PE's. My rheumatologist tested me for all connective tissue orders which were all negative. I am suffering and only take Tylenol for pain, which is not too helpful. I am debating if I should switch blood thinners or if joint symptoms will reduce over time with the Xarelto. Thank you to all. ## Hello, Cenzo! How are you? Joint pain has been a frequently reported side effect of Xarelto and it doesn't seem to go away, which has caused quite a few people to have to stop taking it. Another commonly reported problem is weight gain of generally greater than 40 pounds. Is there anything ...

On Xarelto since October. 2015. Calves feel firm but soft to touch.feet sometimes feel cold but warm to touch. Weight gain since October. ## Hello, Zoe! How are you? That can happen with medications that cause blood thinning and/or prevent clotting, due to the affect they have on your circulation. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?
