Xanax For Sleep

I have been taking .5 mg xanax every night for the last 8 months to fall asleep. It actually works, but I think I'm having side effects. I used to wake up 3 times per night before Xanax, and now I sleep through the night, but I wake up exhausted and sluggish. I'm having memory problems and I don't feel alert. Am I addicted? Can I just stop, since it's such a low dose? Do I have to reduce slowly? It's only .5 mg per night. Any ideas?? HELP! ## Those are normal side effects for Xanax. I have been on antidepressants for about 2 years, nothing helped me to sleep. I started taking 1.5 mg of Xanax before I go to bed and finally after all this time I am sleeping through the night. I still have dreams but they don't keep me awake. I feel fully rested and get a good nights sleep. I only take the Xanax at night and I don't take anything during the day, I don't feel any anxiety. I will never take anything else, all those other medicines i.e Zoloft, Viibryd, Prozac made me crazy. Hope this will help someone else. I got my alprazolam refill. One was a bar and the others are round white tablets with a score line on one side. Apparently these are 4 mg but I've never seen them round before. Could these be xanax and what could be in them? On the packaging it says "xanax with added sleep enhancers". ## What? Hello, I've been taking amitriptyline for about 2 years. I've also been addicted to Ambien and Xanax. I've tried everything for sleep so I didn't take this med when it was first prescribed because I thought it wouldn't work. The first time I took it I was out of Ambien and Xanax and very paranoid. However it actually made me sleep for about five hours which was a very pleasant surprise. That was 50mg. Now I'm completely off Xanax and Ambien and am talking 100-150 of amitriptyline a night. It works very well. It's the only non controlled substance that has ever worked to help me sleep. Because it's not controlled it's much easier to get. When I'm out of it I don't sleep at all. I have been taking xanax for about two years to cope with anxiety. I am currently on 1mg of xanax extended release pills 2 times a day. Hello everyone, I am a 23 year old who suffered from extreme and severe agoraphobia, panic attacks and anxiety for around 5 years. To get to the point I was using alcohol as a medication, to go out, to socialize, to go to the airport, train station, you name it. Basically I used alcohol to get on with my life, at first like many of us alcohol helped take the edge off but it was not until around 2 and a half years later that it got complete out of control.
