Wymox (amoxicillin) is semisynthetic penicillin, an analog of ampicillin, with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Chemically, it is d-(-)-a-amino-p-hydroxybenzyl penicillin trihydrate. Has anyone else here tried this antibiotic? ## Wymox is a moderate-spectrum antibiotic active against a wide range of Gram-positive, and a limited range of Gram-negative organisms. It is usually the drug of choice within the class because it is better absorbed, following oral administration, than other beta-lactam antibiotics. ## Amoxicillin has been proven to be a very effective antibiotic, regardless of the brand name it is sold under. I have some clindamycin left over from a few months ago and I was curious if it treats a urinary tract infection ## The drugs most often used to treat routine, uncomplicated UTI's are trimethoprim (Trimpex), trimethoprim/sufamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra, Cotrim), amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox, Wymox), nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin, Furadantin), and ampicillin [1]. Although Clindamycin is not on the above list, it does not necessarily mean that it won't work. The thing with UTIs is that urine testing and/or medical history may be required to determine the specific bacteria causing the infection. Different meds for different bacetria. Hope this helps.
