Withdrawal Symptoms From Dilaudid

Hi, About three years ago during treatment for rectal cancer, I was given Dilaudid and Fentanyl as part of a pain management program. During a 10-day hospital stay, Dilaudid was injected sub-q every half-hour by means of a pump, and Fentanyl was injected by nurses when necessary (4-5 times a day). After discharge from the hospital, I kept the Dilaudid pump but, fortunately, Fentanyl was no longer required. I stayed on the pump until surgery 6 weeks later. Dilaudid was administered for another 10 days after surgery, but since the cause of the initial pain (a large tumour) had been removed, I no longer needed the medication. Withdrawal was limited to a couple of days of shivering (this was during a heat wave). My question is this: how long after taking medications as powerful as these doe...

I had a nightly routine for sleep that worked very well until adding dilaudid. My husband would wake me telling me I was screaming in my sleep, I have not had nightmares just a lot of chatter that last night caused a terrible fight this has not happened before I started dilaudid and baclofen, so which is the villian ## I am not a doctor, but I have to say that the best guess would be the Dilaudid, if it was the one most recently added. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Many of these medications can cause odd, vivid dreaming. Why did your chatter cause a terrible fight? Do you have any idea what you were saying? I've had this occur, before, and my husband just wok...

I was wondering if anyone might help. I have been off my pain meds for 30 days now. I was taking about 320mg of oxycodone and 4-4mg Dilaudid a day. I quit cold turkey and havent had any meds in 30 days. It's been the worst month ever but believe it or not I am feeling much better. Im not having any more withdrawal symptoms. I am hurting very bad today in my neck where the problem is. I am wondering if I take a half or even a half of a half does anyone know if the withdrawal symptoms will come back. I definitely don't want to go through that again. I don't want the meds anymore I am just got to do something for the day to be able to move. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ## I'm pretty sure once you have a tolerance it stays that way for along time. It did...

I missed my dose... I take it every 12 hours. I was 5 hours late and took one. It is now 5 hours later and I'm still in withdrawal. When will this end? Why isn't the pill stopping the withdrawal? ## It is very odd to have gone into withdrawals that soon. What types of symptoms are you experiencing? The NIH lists the typical withdrawal effects as possibly including fever, chills, rebound pain, nausea, and diarrhea. What was the dosage and how long were you taking it?

I would really love an answer to my question/issue. I have been taking dilaudid for a while due to a terminal illness (I am looking at around 18 mos.-2 yrs. they tell me). I have been dealing with this illness for over a decade and no matter the narcotic medication, I really RARELY deal with withdrawal symptoms in the way I read about. I ran out of my meds for about 9 days after taking for many years and despite some unpleasant night sweats, that was it. It was my fault I ran out, should have called the doctor and let it go over a long weekend. He asked me how I could tolerate it and I told him it wasn't bad, the pain was very unpleasant but I had very mild withdrawal symptoms and have always been this way. Anytime I've wanted or could take a break, it's been a quick taper o...

On day 4 of cold turkey Dilaudid withdrawals. Severe back pain sufferer. Was on 24mg/day for about 18 mos. Brutal. So tired I can barely move, add to that the back pain with limited muscle support and you start to get the picture. Worse symptoms have been diarrhea, insomnia, headaches, mental strangeness and I'm in too much of a general fog to remember what else. Only reason I've slept at all in the past 3 days is Temazepam. But at best an hour or two at a time. Not a natural narcotics lover. No pain, no drugs. Have Diaz and Temaz for a general insomnia problem anyway. Plus if you don't sleep and have a pain problem you're toast. To be completely honest, my doctor is a total F***ing A****le and a quack. I live in a rural area and there's no choices except this idiot ...

will there be hard withdrawals for someone who injects 1 8mg dilaudad daily for 4 months? ## It really depends on the person, there are likely some people that won't, but most people probably will experience some withdrawal effects. Learn more Dilaudid details here. The severity will also depend on the person and the way their body reacts to such. Medications and withdrawal effects are highly individualized. Are there any other questions or comments? ## So honestly you might get sick but I inject my dilaudid all the time and usually blow through a g script of 90 on a week... But dilaudid withdrawal is really not that bad it only lasts like 72 hours and the symptoms peak 36 hours after your last dose. While they are intense symptoms it's really easy to get through with some Advil...

I was recently hospitalized and was given dilauted and morphine for 8 days. I was then sent home. I am now suffering from abdominal pain and cramping 4 days later. I did experience abdominal pain while in the hospital. Is this related to the morphine and how long will it last? ## Dilaudid contains Hydromorphone, so it is a narcotic, just like the Morphine, so it could also be causing some of the problem. I can't say with certainty, but it could be some mild withdrawal symptoms, which can happen with narcotics, however, you were only on them for a little over a week, so it really shouldn't late more than a few days. If it continues or gets worse, please make sure to contact your doctor. Are there any other questions? ## Thanks for the info. I will definitely see my physician if t...

I've been taking 2-4 norco 5-325 almost daily for about 3 months. I have large cysts on my ovaries along with endometriosis and adanonmyosis. I'm in pain about 3 weeks out of the month. I'm having surgery on Thursday the 11th to remove the cysts and one ovary and burning the endometriosis tissue. I ran out of pills a few days ago and of course my doctor is on vacation and not responding. My friend has hydromorphone left over from a old surgery/ injury but what I've read says not to take it before surgery. I'm having some withdrawal symptoms and I'm worried the withdrawal will affect the surgery but I'm worried about taking themy before surgery also. I'm in a lot of pain and plain tylenol is not helping. ## I think in this unique situation it would probabl...

I am on 20ml of methadone and my roommate accidentally spilled the bottle. Now, I'm out of luck with my daily dose. However, he suggested taking dilaudid in order to prevent me from getting sick. The question is, how many dilaudid 2's would it take to make up the difference so I'm not sick? ## U won't withdrawal from missing 1 day, i was on methadone for a few years and i missed 3 days b4 without any opiates and was fine. It's after the 3rd or 4th day u will start feeling it ## I've been on 100mgs of methadone daily for 10+yrs & don't let anyone LIE & say u won't have any withdrawal symptoms of only 1 day missed of methadone that ur body is "used" to EVERYDAY b/c u will. However they won't be severe. Ull make it even though u will expe...

I am having withdrawals from my regular medication which is oxycodone. I'm recently prescribed dilaudid 8mg for pain - how long will this medication work for, and will it take away the wd symptoms? ## It should help, each 8mg Dilaudid is equivalent to 21.33mgs of Oxycodone. They are usually taken every 4 to 6 hours. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I found dilaudid 8mg pills that may be 4 years old. Are these pills still good to stop pain?

WHAT IS NORMAL DOSAGE A MONTH TO GET OFF DILAUDID IF TAKING 12MG EVERY THREE HOURS FOR LAST SIX MONTHS IF I DONT TAKE FOR 5 HOURS I AM IN PAIN AND SICK VERY SCARY ## Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, it is a narcotic pain reliever and may cause side effects such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. As to a time period, there is really no set rule for this, it can vary from person to person. Some doctors do not wean a person off, some do. What has your doctor suggested? Whenever someone stops taking narcotics, it should be done in a very slow taper, to prevent the worst of the withdrawal effects and rebound pain symptoms. ## is it usual to stop dilaudid 5 times a day after several years and start endocet every 6 hours with zonegran at night. could someone please tell me if a person has been using 8mg dilaudad just once a day, basically for the high, on a regular basis for over 4 months will they experience a hard withdrawal by quitting cold turkey and if so for how long? ## From what I could gather, the severity of Dilaudid withdrawal symptoms depends on the dosage and length of time the individual has been using the drug. Dilaudid withdrawal can peak in as little as 9 hours, but typically peaks in 14 to 21 hours after cessation of use. Symptoms typically resolve in 36 to 72 hours. Users taking high doses of Dilaudid over an extended period of time may experience painful withdrawal lasting up to two weeks with symptoms including constant shaking, cold sweats, diarrhea, vomiting, muscle pain, body cramps, and insomnia. The s...

Been prescibed dilaudid last few months as a breakthru med. 4mg 2x day as/if needed. So I haven't taking everyday & somtimes 1/2 of the 4mg. Mainly take ms contin er. How long taking the dilaudid b/4 I go thru withdrawal if I stop taking the dilaudid?? Been on it here & then a few months?? Or taking the ms contin for yrs. Wouldn't that prevent withdrawal ??? Please help!? ## Such a small amount of hydromorphone should not cause a problem as far as withdrawal goes. I would be more concerned about the morphine XR than the D's. ## Bruce is correct, though we are all different, so there is a small risk of your experiencing withdrawal symptoms, which the FDA lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, constipation, and mood changes. They also warn ...

I had gastric bypass in 2010 and am considered a rapid metabolizer for opiates. I have 5 herniated discs in my lower back and nerve disease and stay in constant pain. I have been to 9 pain management docs bc no one wants to take on my case and is scared to prescribed the amounts of medication I need to get through the day. I have tried physical therapy, injections and acupuncture all to no avail. I have a great doc now who is at least trying to help me and currently has me on dilaudid, soma, Lyrica, and suboxone patches most are three and six times daily. I have 5 children and that allows me to function daily with less pain than without. With the metabolizing issue I have no side effects or withdrawal symptoms when taken off, only with the soma I had to cut down to 1/2 of 350 mg 3 times...
