I've been taking Oxycodone 30 mg for neuropathy several years. Recently I was hospitalized five weeks and put on OxyContin 40 mg plus Oxycodone 15 mg for breakthrough which worked like a charm. My problem being is that my 77 year old PCP won't prescribe a time-release and considers them dangerous. My question is this; how do I wean off this med using my leftover 30 and 15 mg Oxycodone until I can locate a new doctor who will prescribe the OxyContin? Plus I'll need to wean from my Oxycodone if I can't locate a doctor. I fear the withdrawal plus the horrible pain of Neuropathy returning full guns if I can't find a new doc. PLEASE someone PLEASE help me with this problem as I'm terribly frightened ## Clonidine helps for withdrawal symptoms. ## Thanks so much for ans...

I have been prescribed pain relief for th past 2/3 years.I have recently had surgery and am titrating myself of the medication. I have been on..Oxycontin 40 m.g twice daily, and. Gabapentin 600mg.3xtimes daily. What withdrawal symptoms,if any, should I expect? ## If you taper off of them, the withdrawal symptoms should be fairly mild, but you may still experience some nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and rebound pain. Learn more Oxycontin details here. Learn more Gabapentin details here. With the Gabapentin, the worst thing I had after trying it was a kind of fuzzy headed feeling that lingered for awhile. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Titrating? Do you mean withdrawing, or just maintaining on that dosage? I am not sure I understand your question. If you are planning to use Gabapen...

Withdrawal from the new Oxycontins? Symptoms and lenght of time to get off of these pills? ## There's really no set time for getting off of them, that's going to vary depending on what the person is being treated for and how long they've been taking them, as well as the dosage. The withdrawal symptoms can include nausea, headache, drowsiness, sedation, diarrhea and rebound pain. The severity of these will also vary, depending on whether or not a person was abusing them, or taking them as prescribed, the length of time and the dosage. Learn more Oxycontin information here. Are there any other questions or comments? ## You will feel awful if you just quit taking them you must titrate the dosage. I take 100mgs of methadone every day for the past 12 years. I ran out of methadone and can't go to my Dr for 2 days. Will OxyContin 20mg help with the methadone withdrawal? If anyone knows please let me know. ## Hello John. No it will not. I have been on methadone for over 30 years, been there done that. You say you have 2 more days to go to see your Dr. Well, as you know, methadone is a long acting medication. You would be fine the first day, especially taking 100mgs. Without it, you might not feel your best, but won't withdraw. But the second day you may start to get sick. You could try to take it for the second day. Everyone is different. It may take the edge off of feeling sick and your pain, but does your Dr do drug urinalysis? Because if he does and you take the oxycontin ...

I have been on 10mg oxycontin hcl for several years (for Stiff person syndrome & migraine). I take 4 or 5 per day. I Just got my prescription filled yesterday and notice that started having chills real bad. Has anyone else had this problem before? ## It sounds like withdrawal symptoms to me? Not sure about what you can do? I would first go talk too the pharmacy and your doctor if needed. What was the name of the manufacturer of these pills? ## I'm not sure. The only thing I seen on bottle is Roxydone. I always get them filled at cvs. ## Somewhere on the bottle it should say something underneath Roxycodone... Like Purde or some other name. It is important info to know in case there is a problem with that manufacturer. Good luck...I was on heavy doses for over 3 years and it was t...

Hello- I've been taking Oxycontin slow release 5mg twice a day for 4 weeks post op. I want to get off them ASAP as I'm scared of becoming reliant. Do I need to see my GP to wean off or is it ok to just stop? Thanks! ## Hello, Olivia! How are you? You haven't been taking a very high dose, so withdrawals would likely be minimal and may include nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, diarrhea and rebound pain, according to the U.S. FDA. However yes, it would be best to slowly taper off, though after only being on them for 4 weeks, that isn't likely to be a long process. Speaking to your doctor about it would help ensure that you do so as safely as possible. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi..... Thank you so much for your reply. I've been on oxycontin for a year---for pain. Had a bad accident, almost three dozen fractures. Have been tapering for past couple months, down to 10 mg oxycontin/day plus one or two 5 mg fast-acting oxycodone if withdrawal starts. So I'm on about 15-20 mg total/day. I plan to go cold turkey on Friday. Am I crazy to think that in a week to 10 days I'll be back to "normal." I've heard everything from 1 week to 3 months for withdrawal to go away. I have clonazepam to help with withdrawal pains, and gabapentin (leftovers from when I was in terrible pain). Advice? Home remedies? Experience, strength or hope to share? I'm pretty nervous about this. From what I've read, withdrawal can be hellish. ## Did you get a reply? Several years ago I did a cold turkey fro...

I've been prescribed a large dose of OxyContin, 360 mgs. per day, + 180 mgs. of Roxycodone per day. Both have been upped over three years for several problems related to my bones, and now cancer. I get terrified that I'll lose them and if I do, will the Drs. replace them? If not, what would be prescribed to get me through the withdrawals? I have heard withdrawals are horrendous and can't imagine going through that on top of cancer and my other issues. I've asked and have been told to just NEVER lose or misplace them. The rules and regulations of the pain management clinic I go to state over and over that they do not replace lost or stolen medications and do not refill early. What does someone do if it does happen? I live in CT. ## If your meds are stolen call the cops an...

39 year old male, I've been taking 20mg of OxyContin twice a day for almost a year do to chronic back pain. I am not addicted but rather dependent and I never take more than I'm prescribed. The result of this is my testosterone has tanked to levels that a woman has and I determined that I'm going to quit. My pain doctor said he could wean me down, but I shouldn't have any problems with the low dose I've been taking. I tried to go 24hrs without taking a 20mg and began getting severe chills and kind of achy all over. I've been reading about going cold turkey by mega dosing vitamin C; which is said to be a miracle for relieving WD. My question is, has anyone tried this method? And also how long will it be before the worst of my symptoms pass, considering my dose? I ...

Got my script filled a few days and didn't notice til today that they're OPs. I've also been sick for the past few days - Do OPs make anyone else sick? Lightheaded, dizzy, sleepy, nauseous, flu-like, can't function. Have taken OCs for years and never had these problems. ## Yes, there have been many complaints that they are not as effective and that they cause odd side effects. I am sorry to read that you are having a problem. Hello, I am currently dependent on Opana and every time I lower it I get very sick. My plan is to decrease daily and I'm not doing well with that. I am severely allergic to Suboxone so my approach would be a Methadone taper however I don't know how much? I plan to switch to Oxycontin tomorrow to see if I can at least to that. I'm scared and broke as well As humiliated. Any suggestions please ## Hi, Susie! Sorry about the problem that you're having. Reducing daily is actually a very bad idea. In order to avoid the severe withdrawal effects that make you so ill, it needs to be tapered very slowly. I understand that it is frustrating, but that's really the only way it will work…..both Methadone and Suboxone are tapered very, very slowly, sometimes over a period of...

How to detox from home, I'm trying to get off these 30mg OPs I been prescribed for more than ten years, and I'm tired of the addiction,, please help me find a way to detox...... ## The only thing I can ever say helped me were a couple valium and LOTS of fluids, stay hydrated!!! Good luck!! ## A slow taper is usually best. However, the problem is that these are time released, so you can't cut or break them. How many do take each day? Have you consulted a medical professional for assistance? The FDA lists the typical withdrawal effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, rebound pain, depression and diarrhea.

I'm very nervous, i am currently taking 8mg of hydromorphone and 30 mg of oxycontin a day and might have to have a surgery. I suffer from chronic pain from hideous chronic neuro lyme disease. I started taking hydromorphone because it actually helps with terrible undeniable chronic pain. If i am told i need surgery i will have to tell them because i would not be able to come home for 3 days. I am prescribed the oxycontin but not the dilaudid, and i heard the withdrawals would be hell on earth. Any experience from anyone? ## Hello, Holly! How are you? Certain medications can also interfere with anesthesia, so not tell them could put you at great risk, or possibly cause life threatening complications. Thus, it is best to be honest and tell them everything you have been taking. The FDA ...

I have been taking 10 mg of oxycontin at night, but I hate extended release medication so I am switching to 10 mg Oxycodone. I am concerned I will have withdrawals. If there’s only 10 mg of the medication in both formulas, the only difference should be that the instant release wear off faster, right? ## Yes, exactly, the Oxycontin is just a time released formulation of Oxycodone, so there shouldn't be a huge difference from switching. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth Are you on any other medications? ## Lol yeah, but I have been going to pain management since 2017 so I have a doctor dealing with all that. I was taking 4 80 mg oxys daily my doc put me on 2 100 mg teva morphines will it help the same and will i go through withdraw thank you ## There may be some issues here, because the Oxycodone is actually 1 and a half time stronger than the Morphine, so you'd need 120mgs of Morphine to equal each 80mg dose you were taking of the Oxycodone. Learn more Oxycodone details here. Learn more Morphine details here.
