I had a 5mg oxycodone pill four hours ago. Is it safe to drink wine now? I will not take the pill again. ## Drinking alcohol while taking a narcotic, such as Oxycodone may cause an aggravation of the side effects, so you may feel more drowsy, dizzy and nauseous than usual. Both can also cause depression of the central nervous system, which could cause lowered blood pressure, lowered heart rate and shallow breathing. Thus, no it is not advisable, even though it's been 4 hours, since it takes awhile longer for the Oxycodone to clear from your body. As a general rule, for your own health and safety, it really is best to avoid mixing alcohol with prescription medications. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Just want to thank you for your response. It was very helpful.

wine with meals is it alright to drink wine with my meals while i .am on jantoven? my heart doctor says it is ok ? my regular doctors says to drink only half glass a day. I only drink red wine with my meals. ## Hello, Joseph! How are you? My cardiologist also says that it's okay, in moderation, of course. But, it is normal for a doctor to want you to be cautious, especially a PCP. Most people tell them they don't drink, or they only drink one or two glasses, when they are really drinking far more. For you, the biggest issue is that wine can also cause some blood thinning, which could be problematic with the Jantoven. The FDA classifies it as a blood thinner and its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, easy bruising and increased risk of bleeding. Really,...

i am taking 2 norco a day for severe back pain my pain doc told me i can not drink any alcohol at all but i like to have 1 glass of wine before bedtime why is this a problem ## Hello, Jean! How are you? First, the alcohol can intensify the side effects of the narcotic, so you may experience more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than normal. Basically one drink can affect you as if you'd had 2 and so on. Second, the both can cause depression of the central nervous system, which could put you in danger due to dangerously lowered heart rate, blood pressure and shallow breathing. is a glass of wine at night ok if taking pain meds during the day 2 norco a day ## Hello, Jean! How are you? Generally, it's best to abstain from alcohol, when taking narcotics, due to the fact that they can both cause depression of the central nervous system, which can result in shallow breathing, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and lower blood pressure. However, if your doctor says it is okay, then please make sure you will not be driving or doing anything dangerous. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. What happens if I drink wine with Cymbalta? I like my wine. ## Well it really depends on your dosage, your alcohol tolerance, your metabolism and etc. Cymbalta can cause drowsiness in some people and alcohol can intensify that effect. In some meds, alcohol can also affect the absorption rate in your body, making you get too much or too little of the necessary drug. However, as long as you aren't taking huge doses of the drug and getting drunk every day, you will probably not have any severe problems. If you are concerned, speak with your doctor or pharmacist first and they can provide you with more information.

Is it ok to drink wine while taking this medication? ## No. Alcohol will only add to the rapid heart beat associated with this drug, and shortness of breath and general feelings of discomfort will follow. Gabapentin is useful in small doses for peripheral neuropathies and certain epilepsies, but side effects abound ~ many of which are life threatening. ## I'm not sure what Jim means by many of them being life threatening. Jim can you please post back with more precise details? As to the problems with alcohol, it's really that it can cause an aggravation of all of the side effects, so you may feel more nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and etc. than you would otherwise. I had two glasses of wine the last one about 2hrs ago. How long should I wait before taking a hydrocodone ## Hello, Allen! How are you? Since the are both depressants, it can be dangerous to mix alcohol, while taking opiates. It would be best to wait a full 24 hours, before taking your medication, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. You're usually instructed not to drink at all, while taking this class of medications. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I've been on Naltrexone for four days now. The first three days, I had either none or just a few sips of wine and had no desire to have anymore. It was pretty amazing, especially because for the past year or so, I've been drinking entire bottles. (Average one bottle every other day.) This afternoon, though, I started thinking about having a drink around 5. I was so disappointed--and worried, too. I've had two glasses already--less than before Naltrexone but much more than the past few days. Am I doing something wrong?

How long until damage occurs in the liver ## Hello, Penny! How are you? There is no time frame that can be given, because it can vary from person to person and many other factors come into play, such as the health of the liver and how long one has been on the given medication, the amount of wine, its alcohol content and etc. Some people may experience liver damage immediately, after just a serving of wine, but others may never experience any. However, due to the fact that mixing alcohol with most medications can cause worsening of the side effects that the FDA reports, such as nausea, dizziness and drowsiness, it is best to just avoid it, while taking any prescription medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

just started VIIBRYD today.... only took 5mg.. can i have a glass of wine with dinner and is cheese aloud ## Hi Cassandra, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, since Viibryd does have an undesirable interaction with alcohol in general. Another Viibryd user actually posted a thread on here trying to warn people about the effects of mixing the two. You can read more on that here: /Discuss/Be-VERY-cautious-mixing-alcohol-with-Viibryd-229026.htm I also haven't come across any information stating that you cannot have cheese with Viibryd. But there is a food interaction you may want to be aware of. I went ahead and quoted the precautions below: "ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Food enhances the oral bioavailability of vilazodone. According to the product labeling, vilazodone blood concent...

Osteoporosis,Celiac,HRT,MouthUlcers,Insomnia,Fatigue...........Wine seems safest pain reliever w/o side effects. Any suggestions? Pain 24/7. Frustrated. ## No, wine certainly does have side effects, you just may not notice them all immediately, but they are there, especially if you have more than a serving or 2 a day. It does contain alcohol, so it can cause liver damage, stomach damage, esophageal damage and it can be cardio-toxic. Things are made even worse, if you combine it with pain medications, such as NSAIDS and/or narcotics. There are very good reasons that doctor's tell their patients not to drink, or to do so only in moderation. There are also good reasons most prescription drugs tell you not to drink, while taking them. What medications do you take? ## Thank you for your ...

I started taking Methylprednisolone tablets USP 4 mg today and will finish my last pill Easter Sunday in the morning before Breakfast. My question is may i have a glass of Wine with my Easter dinner? Selma ## The reason you are usually warned not to mix most medications with alcohol is due to the fact that it can enhance the side effects, like the associated drowsiness, dizziness and nausea. Thus, drinking one glass of wine could affect you like you have drunk 2 and so on. However, it you are taking the last one in the morning and not planning your wine until dinner, the problems should be minimal, but you may still experience some, so I would just suggest to be prepared for them, in case they strike and, as an extra precaution, make sure you aren't going to be driving anywhere. Can I have a glass of wine at night if Im on 25mg of imipramine? ## Imipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant and ingesting alcohol while taking it could result in its being less effective for you, than normal. It may also cause additional impairment of your motor skills. Thus, for many people, one glass of wine may be equal to 2, while they are on this medication. The reactions usually aren't dangerous, but you should make sure you aren't driving or doing anything that could put you or anyone else in danger, if you do choose to imbibe. You should also not be surprised is it seems the medication isn't working, as well. Also due to possible detrimental effects on the liver, you should make sure not drink, a lot. Are there any other questions? ## I took imipramine 50 mg for 4 w...

will having wine while taking amox tr k clv 875 125 make it less helpful ## Hi, Poppie! How are you? This is a generic for the antibiotic Augmentin, which may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash, drowsiness and diarrhea. And the main issue from combining it with alcohol is that it can potentiate those side effects, so it may make you feel much more drowsy, dizzy and nauseous than usual, basically consider one drink being the same as having 2, 2 drinks like having 4 and so on, while you are on this medication. I have not taken any since 2:30 this morning(almost 14 hours ago). Can I have a glass of wine for dinner? ## Did you end up having your glass of wine? if so, were there any adverse effects?
