I put on 20 pounds after taking buspirone for a year ... Will I lose weight when I stop taking it? ## Hello, Joan! How are you? Yes, if it was the sole reason for the weight gain, then you'll most likely lose it, after coming off of the medication. However, as listed by the NIH, withdrawal effects may include anxiety, depression and mood swings, so you should speak to your doctor about doing a proper taper, rather than a sudden withdrawal, to help mitigate the withdrawal effects. Is there anything else I can help with?

Started Paxil about 2 months ago and I have quickly gained 20 pounds. I can't stop eating, constantly crave sweets (as I'm eating a package of s'mores Pop Tarts). Paxil is helping me so much though, I can't decide if I should be happy (but unhappy with my body), calm, and chubby (possibly bordering on fat soon) ... or listless, socially anxious, and skinny.... just seeing if anyone else has a similar experience ## Hello, Vincent! How are you? Paxil is classified by the FDA as an SSRI and most of them are very well known to cause weight gain in people that take them. My ex-husband had the same problem, it was the only one that consistently worked for him, but it caused a lot of weight gain. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth....

Hi. I started Adipex under my doctor on February 18 at 180lbs. I'm 5'4". . March 18's weigh-in, I was 173.8. Last month weigh-in I was 170.1. This was my 3rd weigh-in today (I was supposed to go in on Friday last week but the Dr had an emergency) so I was told to come in today. I knew I was going to be starting my period, but reluctantly I still went. 2 days ago my weight was 168.8!. Today, however, after starting my period last night, I weighed in at 173.0. :( Because I had gained 3lbs,despite being on my cycle, the Dr told me to come back on Friday to lose the water and be off my cycle so the weight is accurate. But now I have no adipex, and am afraid the weight won't change he without it. I need to be 169 on Friday in order to get the last 30 day dose of my prescr...

I have been ;on tamoxifen for 5 yrs. due to breast cancer. I gained 40 pounds. Will I lose weight when I get off the tamoxifen. I am getting off next month. ## Will I lose weight after quitting taking tamoxifen for 5 yrs. I have gained 40 pounds and am getting off next month. ## Well, it's really going to depend on whether or not the Tamoxifen was the sole contributor to the weight gain, but either way a good diet plan and exercise will certainly help. Have you discussed it with your doctor? They would be best able to advise you on the safest and healthiest ways for you to lose the weight.

Ever since I started taking Tecta, I have gained 24 lbs that I just can’t loose. I do moderate exercise, I eat very healthy and controlled portions, things I have been doing before I started taking Tecta but something is contributing to my weight gain. Since nothing else has change, I must say that it is 100% due to the medication.

The same applies to any other side effects, it will take a few weeks for your body to return things to normal. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been on Multaq for 2 years, I have gained 23 lbs., I want to stop taking it, doesn't anyone know if the weight will come off if I stop taking it? ## If the weight gain was solely caused by the Multaq then yes, you will most likely lose the weight once you stop taking it. However, if the weight gain was just due to natural aging, being sedentary, a bad diet or etc. then there will likely not be any change, unless the situation is changed and, unfortunately, aging is something we can't change. Do you eat healthy and get proper exercise? Learn more Multaq details here. I want off this stuff. I already take klonipin and lamictal. The dr has me on 3mg of invega and now she suggest risperdol. I have no clue what to try next. ## Hello, Racheal! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Unfortunately no, weight gain is a normal side effect of almost all psychotropic medications. Others, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dry mouth, somnolence and headache. The only thing you can really do is eat healthy and get plenty of exercise to try to mitigate this effect. Does anyone else have any ideas or advice?

I have Epilepsy and have used Epilim for almost 5years now and in that 5years I have gained almost 35kilograms. I have started to become depressed by getting fat from the Epilim so I turned to my doctor. He has now prescribed the Epitec 25mg for me and I must increase it gradually over a period of 4weeks to 100mg. Reading all of these confessions of Epitec I'm rather scared to take it now, as I'm used to Epilim. I DO believe that these medications make you gain weight, as I do follow a very strict diet and excersize every day, I still gain weight. Is it normal to be scared of Epitec and is there a diet or excersize program one can follow to ACTUALLY loose weight on this medication? ## Yes, they are all known to cause weight gain. Does Xarelto cause weight gain specifically. ## I wonder myself if my weight gain is from Xarelto. I have AFIB my Doctor gave me Xarelto I had a follow up in two weeks. I had decided in the meantime to lose some weight , being tired all the time I drink lots of coffee. 7-9-14 cups a day and I like them with sugar & creamer. I figure that I was drinking in between 600-800 calories at eight cups much more if I drank additional cups ( creamers can vary 20-30 cal to 50 or more). So I went cold turkey to Black coffee only and drank much less for the two weeks. I thought I would lose at least 1-2 pounds on the next visit but instead gained 8 pounds thats in two weeks time. OK I'm going to give it more time and see if something else is going on besides the Xarelto. I"ll check back ...

I want to know what medication I can take for the fibro that will relieve headache pain yet will stop the weight gain and maybe even help me to get rid of this extra weight. ## There is actually no way to say how any medication will affect any person that takes it, so there is really no way to answer this question. While most of these medications can cause weight gain, it's usually not as extreme as what you've experienced. Have you discussed this problem with your doctor? Are you watching your diet and making sure that you get proper exercise on a regular basis? ## yes, this has been discussed with my dr. She suggested exercise and diet...

I originally got on the web today to research how to loose weight gained from medication. I have been on Viibryd for 6 months for Major Depressive disorder. I currently take 40 mg. It should be noted taking Viibryd has changed me from a size 0 to size 6. 20lbs. My appetite at times especially in the evening is RAVENOUS. I am embarrassed by how much I can eat and not be full. I have been nonchalant about a few pounds here and there but it devestated me yesterday when i caught a glimpse of CELLULITE on my backside. Nothing else has changed in my medicines or routine.
