I took 20mg methadone 36 hours ago and 10mg 28 hours ago. I dont feel really sick yet but a little anxious. Is it safe to administer 2mg of suboxone right now or do I need to wait longer? ## Hello, Zeke! How are you? You need to be in full withdrawal, before taking Suboxone. Otherwise, the Naloxone in it may throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Wait longer. Methadone is still in you. Methadone takes at minimum 70 hrs to get out of u for Subs to work. You should get Subutex it's Suboxane with ...

PLS HELPPP! i was on methadone for 3 years...went from 80mg down to 20mg...then switched to suboxone...been on it for about 3 months maybe 4...on 16mg...but im having a lotttt of pain problems...i have severe headaches...i feel nauseated all the time... can barely sleep (which is a lot due to the pain) and my dr. has yet to find anything...the methadone is out of my system...i guess where im getting at is can this be due to withdraw symptoms from the methadone even though its not in my system? and has anyone dealt with something similar? and if so what did you do?? ( especially for the pain ) on a side not does anyone one have any recommendations for relieving severe pain while on suboxone...or even methadone?!?! ## It sounds like you actually may be on too low of a dose of the Suboxone...

I got off my subs for a month and went back to full antagonists thinking I was gonna have gall bladder surgery. I can't take the opiates anymore so I went back to my subs two days ago after being on methadone for about two weeks. My question is why do I still feel so so weak and I'm not familiar with methadone, so thinking it's still in my system maybe and the two are fighting it out ??? ## Because methadone has such a long half life, I think your assumption is probably correct in that the two medications may be fighting it out on your receptors so to speak - potentially causing side effects such as weakness. MedsChat has a drug half life calculator on the home page here that estimates how long a specific drug/dosage remains in your body after certain time intervals; whereas...

I have been taking Methadone for Pain & addiction for years . I have cut my dosage down from 80 Mg a day to 25 Mg a day & feel much better . My ? is it a must to wait 48 to 72 hours before Switching to Suboxone . This is what iv,e always been told . ## Yes, you must be in full withdrawal, before taking Suboxone, otherwise it could cause you to experience dangerous precipitated withdrawals, according to FDA warnings. It also carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. The exact time frame can vary from person to person, but you must be in full withdrawal. Is there anything else I can help with?

I took 60 mgs of methadone sat morning at 8 am... today is monday 4 pm. Am I ok to take 4 mgs of suboxone today? ## It really depends on how long you have been on the methadone and the dose you are at. If your only dose was 60mgs of done sat morning and you haven't take any done before or after that I say your good. If you take 60 everyday you may want to wait day or two more. better safe than sorry...and you will be sorry. ## I took about 15 mgs of methadone for 4 days then just 5 mgs this morning at 8:30am.. Am I safe to take 2 mgs of suboxone now only being 6 hrs? I feel sick with withdrawal symptoms now anyway.. ## Jdub, NO ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Unless you want to endure precipitated withdrawal syndrome. You must wait at least 72 to 96 hours MINIMUM to safely transition to sub. ## Y...

Hi there, this is for the people who are on methadone / or Suboxone. I've been on methadone for an opiate addiction, for a year now. My clean date is feb 2, 2015. At first, methadone was the best thing that had ever happened to me. I finally felt normal, and thought I was ready to get my life back on track. Well.. What a lie that was. I was at 75 mlgs of methadone from February 2015-August 2015, then started tapering off at 5 mlgs a week. I have a rapid metabolizer, so methadone never lasted longer than 10 hours in my system. Now I'm at 30 mlgs and I'm living in hell! I'm in constant withdrawal, body aches, sweating, hot /cold, emotional, aggressive... Etc. All I want is to feel normal again, but don't want to be tied on a leash to the methadone anymore! People say t...

I took 50mg of methadone today. How long do I have to wait to take suboxone? ## Wait about one to two days so it works and doesn't make u have bad withdrawals. You will be sick if u dont start feeling sick and then take the sub. ## Hi Brandy, I know this is an older post, but I came across it. Like u, I went from methadone 2 suboxone. U must wait until u r withdrawing before u take the suboxone. If u don't, it won't work and u could get sicker. ## I took 60 mg of methadone at midnight and started the suboxone program at nine am the next morning. I was fine. ## I'm on 70 mg methadone and I want to switch to subs... How long do I wait? It's been 42 hours since my last dose and I'm now starting to feel some withdrawals..... Please help! ## Depending on how long u ha...

I have been taking 32 mg suboxone/subutex for over a year. I switched to Methadone four days ago. I had my fourth dose of methadone today...50 mg. I feel like I’m in at least partial withdrawal, even though it’s only been 12 hours. There’s not much methadone built up in my system, so would it be safe to take subs now? I feel lousy, but I’m terrified of precipitated withdrawals. I’m guessing that wouldn’t happen, because the methadone hasn’t had a chance to build up in my system. Any advice would be so appreciated! I’m taking my recovery seriously, and I don’t want to relapse, which is tempting right now. Thank you so much in advance for any advice you might have. ## That's an awful high dose of Suboxone! Were you having issues wi...

Hi, I started suboxone yesterday after being on methadone for 3 and half years. I went from 85ml to 30ml. I waited 36hrs before taking my first dose of 8mg yesterday, it made me feel ok but not great. I took 16mg this morning @ 8:30. An hour later I was sick and 5 hours later sick again, I feel like s***! I want to go back to methodone asap!! When would be safe to take some methadone? Honest answers plz. I really do not want to be sick again. I cant handle this! Thanks x. ## I have been on 16 milligrams of subutex similar to suboxone for 2 months today I start methadone at 35 million liters this is 24 hours after my last dose of Suboxone and at this moment I'm starting to feel the effects of methadone so in my opinion 24 hours is sufficient time to switch over. ## Hi Amanda - just i...

I am having some serious withdrawals this early morning. I just took an 8 mg of Suboxone at 4 am and I wanna go to the Methadone clinic at 5 am. Will I be able to take a dose of Methadone at that time or will it not mix well with the Suboxone strip? ## No, you'll need to be off the Suboxone for about 72 hours, before you can take Methadone, or it won't work. The Buprenorphine in it takes a stronger hold on the opiate receptors than the others do, plus the Naloxone neutralizes other opiates. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No, you will go through precipitated withdrawals and feel like...

The time period between taking only one Suboxone sub film and going back on my methadone 10mg. How long to wait? ## According to the fda..There is no set time between taking suboxone to methadone and vice versa. It solely depending on many factors that differ widely between patients. Most addiction specialists agree that a patient must be in mild to moderate withdrawal to switch between the two drugs. This may range between 8 hours to 5 days after the last dose. Many doctors specializing in addiction wait 3 days (72 hours) after there is no trace of said drug found in a drug panel.. This is becoming standard protocol in many states. My conclusion is this: only you know your own body and how long after suboxone that you feel chills, fatigue, sweats, and nausea. Once feeling these symptom...

I usually take methadone and I couldn't find my medicine, I cut a suboxone strip and cut it into 4 pieces and I took a 1/4 of it at like 11 am and I feel horrible my body is aching plus I found my methadone so since I just took a 1/4 of a strip I can take my methadone and it help my boddy , and withdrawals???? ## No, the Naloxone in the Suboxone has likely started some precipitated withdrawals and now will prevent the Methadone from having any effect for about 72 hours. Have you consulted your doctor for assistance? The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I've been on the highest dose of suboxone for about a year now and i don't feel like it's helping at all anymore. I wake up miserable everyday with horrible cravings and i wish i hadn't woken up at all. I want to switch to methadone for pain which is what my family Dr. treats me for. I think my Dr will write for it for pain management. But since i just picked up my suboxone for the month would it be able to be filled and also would the methadone be covered by my welfare insurance? I know he can write for suboxone even though i never asked him to do it since i go somewhere else. I live in Philadelphia i don't know if that makes a difference. Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated. ## Methadone and suboxone can't be taken together.. it's deadly My older s...

My name is AJ. I've been taking 8mg subutex ( not suboxone) for two weeks. I start the methadone clinic in 5 days. How long should I be off subutex to start methadone? And if I still have subs in my system will I go into precipitated withdraws? ## Hi AJ, It looks like this question has already been asked/answered in several other discussion threads here, so what I'm doing is just linking you to the thread that I feel addresses this inquiry most accurately: Discuss/SETTING-RECORD-STRAIGHT-how-long-after-taking-subutex-can-u-take-methadone-280366.htm This social worker from a pain management clinic goes on to state that patients should wait 12 to 24 hours after Subutex before having Methadone in order to avoid precipitated withdrawals; due to the presence of Buprenorphine, which k...

I took 15 milgrams of methadone after not taking any in over 2 years am I ok to take a piece of a suboxson ## The answer to this may be different for each individual (as far as how long to wait), but if it were me I'd probably try to wait 3 days for methadone to be excreted, due to it's long half-life. Other patients on here may feel differently though. Based on your situation I have a feeling you'll be alright to take suboxone sooner than later, but if in doubt I would still encourage you to contact your prescribing doctor first, just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps!

Hi everyone! I was wondering if suboxone is as hard 2 get off as methadone? I was on 110 of methadone 4 almost 5 years, after many years of Oxy abuse. Got down 2 (24) and the withdrawals were so bad, and, the cravings came back. Dr put me on suboxone, which works great. I've been on 3 (8 mg) a day 4 almost 8 years now. I'm scared 2 death 2 get off. I suffer with a lot of pain, too. The suboxone helps some. What with it. I'm also afraid of the bad withdrawals, and returning back 2 pain pills. Any advise will b helpful. ## Hi Cats, You definately can get off subs it just takes time. Why not cut down just a couple of mgs and see how it goes. Instead of 8 three times a day you could try 8 than 6 than 8. If you feel allright after a week or so try dropping another 2. Theres no se...

I take suboxone. I'm really trying to be 100% clean. I ran out of suboxone early and took 3 10mg methadone pills. I have never taken them before. I don't know if I should let them dissolve or how the mgs compare to a suboxone. I'm not looking to feel high. Just trying to end this disaster I got myself into. If anyone knows about these could you please offer advice? ## Stay with suboxon man. Don't mess with methadone I tell you it is bad. You will be on methadone for life if you keep on ## Yes, many people who take Methadone never become fully drug free, they usually end up on a lifetime maintenance dose, which is why many people prefer Suboxone, or Subutex, now. Why did you run out early? These medications are opioids that carry the risk of being habit forming, and may c...

Me and my boyfriend were taking 30 mg of methadone every day for a year or so, and decided to go the suboxone route. His Dr told him as long as he was taking 30 mg a day he was ok to dose... ha!!! Oh my god we got so sick, him more than me, we are now on our 4th day and I feel fine, actually just normal, don't feel medicated, but he still can't shake the sickness, he says he had no energy, sick to his stomach, anxiety, depression, I don't know what to do. He had tried taking a small about 2mg and still feels the same as when he takes 8mg. Could it still be the methadone? Is there any relief? We have kids and jobs we have to be here for. Anyone with any experience please please please help. Thanks ## Who ever your Dr is needs his head checked..it don't matter how much meth...

I have been taking 56 mg of methadone every other day I would like to know if 3 8mg Suboxone would help with withdrawal. I know that I have to wait at least three days and in withdrawal before I take the Suboxone. I would like to know if this is going to help me.
