Why Seizures Happen

I went to a neurologist and had an EEG with a temporal lead done and it came out abnormal. The reason I had gone there is because I have been experiencing episodes of dizzy spells and lightheaded ness without actually fainting and at times pain in the face/ mild headaches and at times tingling sensations. In one or two of the episodes I would also temporarily get disoriented. Whenever these episodes happened and they would last anything from a few minutes to about 15-20 min I would always get better by standing and walking about and also drinking lots and lots of water. My doctors have at times thought it was cardiac related and or inner ear relatedbut my tests in that were quite n normal. I also had a regular EEG done a month before this latest one and it came out normal. I also had an...

Is it true you could have seviours if you have taken xanax for a long time then just up and quit or would you even have any side effects by quiting ## have ben on for 12 yr how can i get off ## Yes seizures are among the many side effects of prolonged use and withdrawals of xanax but that doesn't mean you will have seizures indefinitely but keep in mind that side effects are possibilities that can happen though. Wean yourself off of xanax ASAP if you take them or get professional help in doind so because my doctor told me it is a dangerous higly addictive drug and evntually your body asks for higher doses of the drug to sustain it resulting in abuse of the drug . My mom has been addicted for at least 17 years and can not function without them and goes through severe withdrawals in w...

My 15-year old son has been taking this drug for about 8 months. He is a perfectly normal boy developmentally and has no allergies to any drug. He is big for his age, but a perfect weight for his height. He has a normal diet and is in excellent physical condition. Last week, in a match during wrestling practice, he suffered a seizure during which he bit he tongue and eventually lost consciousness for several minutes. He was taken to the hospital and given brain scans and they found nothing unusual. Two hours later, he felt so well it was as if nothing had even happened. But a few days later, he was hiking a very small local mountain when he suffered a minor seizure that caused him to fall down but lasted only a few seconds. After that he felt fine again. This seems to have puzzled the n...

I am now a healthy 60 year old woman and I fell and hit my head on the farm 25 years ago. Since then I have suffered from partial complex seizures that occur during sleep (not every night). I am currently taking 3000 mg of divalproex and 1000 of carbamazapine daily however my seizures are still uncontrolled and appear to be happening more often. Now my neurologist wants to place me on Keppra but I'm afraid that as a result, I might have unexpected seizures that are either stronger or that occur during the day; I haven't had a daytime seizure or a grand mal sort of seizure in years and don't want those again. I want to be assured the Keppra won't induce those and I hope you can provide me with your insight. ## Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee that it won't....

I have studied this tablet which is pale blue with a "c" on one side and "aa" on the other. Has anyone else switched from Diazepam to Amitriptyline with good results? ## If I switch from Diazepam to Amitriptyline...worried about withdrawal. ..what will happen..I sick with worry ## The National Institutes of Drug Abuse do warn that withdrawal symptoms are possible, if you abruptly stop taking the Diazepam, which is a CNS depressant of the Benzodiazepine class, that includes the risk of seizures, severe drowsiness, headache, and rebound anxiety. However, the severity is usually does dependent. How much were you taking? Why are you switching? Has your doctor instructed you to do so?

My brother takes Dilantin for epilepsy and was hospitalized and in the process he was perscribed 600 units when he normally takes 260 to 300 units? What can happen to him with the level being 38.7? ## TALK TO THE DOCTOR! Was the usual dose your brother took preventing seizures? If not, that may be why his dosage was increased. If that was not the case, be sure the professionals in charge of his care are keenly aware of the proper dose he should be taking! Balance is very important. I am also epileptic, occassionally I forgt to take my daily dose. When that happens, I have to take the meds I missed in addition to the meds needing to be taken. I went to see my Doctor (GP) yesterday because i have been suffering from Seizure type episodes. I find i have these episodes when i am very stressed and very tired. Has happened during the day and at night time. I have read up on Urr=banol, he has prescribed Urbanol 5mg Twice a day for a month and then i will be re-evaluated, i have noted it can be used for Anxiety as well as for seizures so i am unsure why he has prescribed this to me, my doctor is as old as the hills and i really dont have the patience to try and get the info out of him. What could be the reason i have been prescribed Urbanol? Seizures or the stress/anxiety? ## Perhaps he prescribed it for both. I can't answer for your doctor, of course, but it would make sense. If someone is dealing with both issues and there is...

My doctor gave me Raneza 500mg. I am worried because I have stage 4 Kidney disease. I also have a dizziness problem. Recently I fainted and had to go to the emergency room. I have had this dizziness problem for more than a year but cannot find out why it's happening. I also have angina. Raneza has given me very bad constipation. I am very worried for my kidneys. ## Ranexa is most commonly used to treat chronic angina, its typical side effects may include nausea, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and seizures, so it may have caused your fainting spell. How long have you been taking it? Unfortunately, this medication has also been known to cause kidney failure in some people that take it, though it isn't a common occurrence.

What happens if I stop taking this pill now after having been taking it for 4 days? I feel very dizzy, sleepy and drowsy. ## Stopping it abruptly could create the risk of rebound seizures. According to the FDA, those can be normal side effects of this medication, but most are transient and will gradually go away as your body gets used to the medication. That may take about 4 to 5 weeks. Are you taking it to prevent seizures? If so, it could be very dangerous for you to stop taking it. Have you discussed these problems with your doctor?

What happens when someone suddenly stops taking Lonazep 0.25 mg? Are there any withdrawal symptoms? ## If you've been on it for a long period of time, then it isn't safe to just stop taking it abruptly as doing so creates the risk of seizures. Lonazep contains the active ingredient Clonazepam, which is a benzodiazepine and since these medications can be habit forming you may also experience withdrawal effects, such as irritability, nervousness, headaches and diarrhea.

Two years ago I began having occasional episodes with fainting/passing out. It always happened when I was at rest, or even asleep. After many tests and even sleep studies, it was finally determined that these episodes were actually seizures. I was immediately put on Keppra, and that seemed to control them very effectively. The only problem I am having is the medication makes me feel tired and weak. I have been a runner and cyclist most of my adult life, and I am almost 70 years old, now. I still run and bike, but when I wake up and need to go for a run early, before going to work (still full time), I really don't feel like doing it. If I can make myself go ahead and start very slowly, I almost always feel much better afterwards. Sometimes, though, I feel too bad. I have to admit def...

Taken clonazepam for 12 years 2mg 3 times a day for anxiety? Are they addictive? What happens when I do stop them? I was told that I can just stop at anytime. ## Hello, BL! How are you? Yes, Clonazepam are a benzodiazepine, so they can be habit forming and, if you've been taking them 3 times a day for years, then no, you can't just stop cold turkey. That creates the risk of seizures due to withdrawal, as well as other withdrawal symptoms, such as headache, diarrhea, irritability, nausea, anxiety and insomnia. To stop taking them, it would be safest to do a very slow taper, such as gradually lowering your dosage, while skipping doses, but only your doctor can help you decide the safest method for you. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I am on Topomax for a seizure disorder (haven't had one in almost 10yrs) so because I am also on another medication which doubles to prevent seizures my doctors feels I could come off the Topomax- I don't need two - it certainly didn't help my migraines. However in the past two weeks coming off the med I've gained 6 pounds and I'm not eating any differently! Has anyone else had this happen. I've worked very hard to keep my weight down and getting very hungry and freaking out! Thanks. ## How long have you been taking the other medication and what specific medication is it? It could be a combination of it and the Topamax, actually. Learn more Topamax details here. It's difficult to know how anyone will react to any particular medication and/or discontinuing one.
