White Blood Cell Count

Is it possible for Effient to lower my White Blood Cell Count? ## I wouldn't say it's not possible, but this is probably something you'd have to have a blood test for in order to truly determine whether or not it really does lower your white blood cell count and more importantly, by how much? NOTE: This medication works by preventing platelets (a type of blood cell) from collecting and forming clots that may cause a heart attack or stroke. I hope this info helps!

After using Temodar for 6 weeks (for brain tumour) my sons white blood cell, platelet count dropped dramatically. For 2 months in 0,03 range. Started picking up the last month. Reaching 0.69 at highest. Been in hospital 3 months now. Did a bonemarrow biopsy 1 month ago. After the 2 months a bonemarrow biopsy was done and shown 5% activity. But after the biopsy the dr said he convinced the bonemarrow showing more activity. It's been going up so slowly every week. We keep a chart. We not keen for a bonemarrow transplant now as he has been very sick with infection twice. Want to give him all the chance to see if he can recover by himself. Are there patients that share the same story?

I just started taking Gabapentin a month ago and my white blood cell count is high, but never has been. Can this be why? Will I need to postpone any surgeries because of this? ## Yes, the FDA does list that as being a known side effect of Gabapentin, along with nausea, dehydration, somnolence, mood changes, and weight changes. As to whether or not you can have surgery that will depend on the opinion of the surgeon, and whether or not they actually detect a real infection, or if it seems that this has just been caused solely by the medication. What type of surgeries are you due to undergo? I know when I needed dental surgery, and my WBC count was high, they assumed it was due to my dental infections, so they did the surgery, anyway. It turns out they were correct, a couple weeks after su...

I took a Methylprednisolone dose pack for 6 days for inflammation in my foot. 8 days after my last dose which was one pill the last day, I had blood work done for my routine physical. They called and want to do more blood work in 2 weeks because my white blood cell count was "slightly elevated". It was 11.3. Could the steroids have affected this? ## Hello, Gail! How are you? Yes, it could have, it could also have been caused if an infection had caused the inflammation, and sometimes due to the inflammation itself, according to the NIH. Other side effects of this medication, as listed by the NIH, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, and acne. It is routine to recheck in a few weeks, to be careful. If they are still elevated, it could mean you have some type...

My Dr. said to take this for 10 days because my white blood count is too low and that this will help me... But I saw that it is bad and read a few bad things about it. Can someone help me??? ## Hello, Magnolia! How are you? A low white cell count can be due to an infection in the body, so your doctor has prescribed an antibiotic that treats bacterial infections. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-alelrgic skin rash and diarrhea. What bad things did you see about it?

My father could not do cheomo due to low white blood cell count, is there something that he can take to build it back up ## I'm no doctor but I heard of a drug released by Amgen called Neupogen which is supposed to stimulate the production of white blood cells. Your doctor should have more information on this and other possible treatments. Good luck! Amgen site info: ## Hello Ty, Based on my research, low white blood cell counts are indicative of a suppressed immune system. My research tell me that the diet can play a huge role in keeping the immune system strong and the white blood cell count at a healthy level. If possible, maybe you can implement more fresh fruits and vegetables into your fathers diet (juicing is a great way to do this)- whatever is easiest for him. Carrots as w...

My doctor prescribed this, and I know I already have a low wbc count. Should I be concerned? Should I not take it as this is a potential side effect which would compound my pre-existing condition? ## Did you talk to your doctor about it? You should discuss it with them, anytime you are concerned about such an issue. What did your doctor prescribe it for?

Can this medication make your red blood cell count high? ## Lisinopril is what I'm on. I had to look up the side effects since I'm sensitive to medication. It's an ACE inhibitor. It can make you dizzy, headaches, increase your potassium levels (WebMD says don't take a potassium supplement if you're taking Lisinopril.) You can have abnormally low blood pressure, decreased blood platelets, decreased function of the bone marrow. Decreased neutrophils (a type of white blood cell), deficiency of granulocytes - a type of white blood cell. I'd suggest doing a Google search to see what you can find. I've noticed you can't find the information you need all in one place. Good luck! ## No, that is not listed as known side effects. In addition to what Nikki has alrea...

OTC MEDS THAT WOULD ACTUALLY WORK?? Would like to here true experiences from anyone ## Hello Ty, I'm not aware of any OTC medications that can help boost white blood cell count, however I can still offer some advice that may be able to help you. Based on my research, low white blood cell counts are indicative of a suppressed immune system. This means that your diet most likely plays a huge role in keeping the immune system strong and the white blood cell count at a healthy level. I recommend that you to start eating more fresh fruits and vegetables (or juice them), whatever is easiest for you. There are also plenty of dietary supplements that can possibly help to boost your immune system. Here is an article that talks about how to naturally boost immunity and white blood cell count:...

Taking 5 mg Bystolic. Can Bystolic lower your neutrophils/granuocytes (lower white blood cells that fight bacteria) and lower total white blood count? I have developed mild neutropenia since taking Bystolic, noticed 7 months following first taking the drug and it has continued to now (4 years later) but my doctor does not know of this side effect. Also noticed my cholesterol increased and (total and LDL). When I cut it down some (to 3/4 pill my cholesterol lowered) ## Hello, California! How are you? No, that is not a known side effect of this medication. However, the elevated cholesterol is a known side effect. It might be a good idea to talk to your doctor about trying a different medication, then rechecking both in a few months to see if they are resolved, or not. Is there anything el...

My Eosinophils - Blood is 0.9 units x10E3/uL What does this mean? ## Hello, Dido! How are you? The eosinophils are one of your immune responders among your white blood cells, the ones that combat illnesses, such as infections or parasites. They will be elevated if there is some type of illness going on, such as a bacterial infection, cold virus or flu virus. A normal level would be anywhere from 1 to 6% of your total white blood cell count. Is there anything else I can help with?

A friend of mine took the plan b pill and has not had her period in 2 months. She has had headaches, been vomiting and feeling very hyped up and sensitive. She keeps saying she needs to have her period to release all this tension. She has been very stressed out over it. She had blood work done and it showed a low white blood cell count. Can the plan b pill and the side affects cause her to have a low white blood cell count? ## No, that is not a normal side effect. The FDA lists its typical ones as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and irregular bleeding. Whether or not she gets her period, it will most likely not change these issues. Given the symptoms, it sounds more like she is pregnant, or dealing with some type of hormonal issue. Is she on any other medications? Has th...

My white blood cell count is falling. Can Conzace help? ## I wanna take Conzace, but I must know where I can get it from if I decide to go for it? ## I want to conceive, and I am taking FolGravid with Conzace vitamins at the same time, is that ok? I am a working wife traveling 1 hour from home to the office via public transportation and most often standing. My husband is taking Conzace too and a working husband also. ## Hello Tibot, I was reading the benefits and intended uses of Conzace on the manufacturers website and nowhere does it claim to raise white blood cell counts. This product is simply a multivitamin and while it contains vitamin C which is associated with improving your bodies ability to fight off diseases it does not directly impact the white blood count. my eos is 12 my eos (absolute) is 0.9 units x10E3/uL What does this mean? ## does a 12%Eos pose a problem? ## These are white blood cells that show our immune response, less than 350 cells per mcl is considered normal. Ideally, they should only make up 1 to 4% of your white cell count, so anything higher than that may indicated that you have some active conditions, such as asthma, leukemia, or other issues such as hay fever, or some other type of allergic reaction, according to NIH reports. Has your doctor reached a conclusion as to what's causing your elevation? Are you on any other medications? Do you have any diagnosed medical conditions?

I take plavix , ecosprin and wafarin daily. what are effects of it in the long run. can i stop one of it ## Plavix contains the active ingredient Clopidogrel, it is used to inhibit blood clotting. It can cause low white cell count or hemmorhage. Ecosprin contains Aspirin, it is also generally used for its blood thinning properties. Warfarin is another blood thinner. As to stopping any of these, this site is not medical professionals and do not know your medial history. Only you and your doctor can decide that. Have you talked to them about it?

I have noticed that since starting Prolia I seem to always have a cold, stomach problems, sore/achy joints, and headaches. I am 46 and very athletic but this drug has taken a toll on my body. My white blood cell count has been affected as well. I am on Prolia because I had a breast cancer diagnosis in 2008 and my doctor felt it would help protect my bones. But I feel it is doing quite the opposite. My immune system has been altered in a negative way by this drug and it's not worth the gamble knowing my health history. Sorry Prolia but I'm out.
