Just started using hydrocodone apap tab5mg-325. This first dose I took is 2 pills at 12 noon. The bottle instructions say you can take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. It is now 3:15 pm and it feels like the hydro pills, made by Amneal are just about finished. The pills I have been taking prior to this are oxycodone, Mallinckrodt, acetaminophen 5-325 and I take 1 pill every 6 hours. This is OXY condone, NOT HYDRO codone made by Amneal. The Hydrocodone in the Vicodin/Lortab is a potent narcotic analgesic. But the Tramadol is just a centrally acting analgesic, though it is derived from an opiate, it is nowhere near as strong and effective as the opiate narcotic class. Hydrocodone is the narcotic pain reliever and is much stronger than Acetaminophen-which is included to increase the effects of the narcotic. That being said, I believe that the surgeon gave you a somewhat stronger dose since 7.5/325 contains (2.5 mg) more of the narcotic than 5/500. Medication effects each individual differently however. He gave you a dosage of 10/500 which means 10mg of hydocodone and 500 mg of actemiphin(tylenol) I just had hip surery a month ago and my surgen gave me that. It works great for pain, your pretty silly when your on it but it does work!!! The only problems I had was I was constipated for the first week after surgery. I find it odd that patients without such conditions have access to much stronger pain medications. Although I wouldn't wish those addicting opiates on anyone, sometimes intervention is necessary to get the initial relief you need. If your doctor is unwilling to prescribe what you feel you need, then it may be time to switch doctors to someone who specializes in pain management.
