What is the difference between Oxycodone and Hydrocodone? ## Hi Natalie, Both Oxycodone and Hydrocodone are narcotic pain relievers that are similar in structure; however, the effects of Oxycodone are reported to be much stronger than Hydrocodone. One other thing to consider though, is that everyone reacts/responds differently to each medication despite their potency. You should call your doctor and tell them that your medication is not helping the pain. I hope you get some relief soon. ## Hi Gary, Post #1 is right about there being a lot of other options for pain relief; many of which are stronger than a 5mg dose of hydrocodone + 325mg of acetaminophen. If it were me, I would talk with my doctor about upping the dose of hydrocodone to 7.5mg or 10mg, since that is considered to be the "next step up" in terms of potency. From there it seems like oxycodone, opana, dilaudid, fentanyl, extended release meds, etc, are reserved for more serious or long term cases of chronic pain management.....

In this case, you have the conversion backwards, because Oxycodone is stronger than Hydrocodone. Taking 30mgs of it would be equal to taking 45mgs of Hydrocodone. What is the difference in percocet 10/325 and lortab 10/500, I know the amount of tylenol is different, but I've taken both and the lortab seem to work better than the percocet.
