I have been taking Epitec(for bipolar mood disorder prescribed by Pschyciatrist) together with Altosec(for GERD by a GP)) for the last 8 years. Recently my GP said the Altosec stops the Epitec from being absorbered. Is this why my BMD is not getting better? ## Hello, Ilona! How are you? I didn't find anything listing that there's a problem, if these two medications are taken together, but your doctor could have access to some new information that isn't available to the public, yet. Learn more Epitec details here. Learn more Altosec details here. What type of doctor are you seeing for your Bipolar? Have you tried any other medications to treat it?

I have bipolar 1 and was prescribed 300mg epitec per day 4years ago. 2 years ago I had a stroke at age 29, this was put down to an overdose of epitec. I have cut the epitec down to 100mg and take this every other day. I struggle with constant headaches and when I take a few ays off end up with the high/low mood swings. Im wanting to have a baby but have been told I cant if im on epitec. Is there a natural alternative I can take? ## Hello, Danelle! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problems that you've had. With your rather complicated medical history, you really need to check with your doctor, before trying to get pregnant and making any changes. They'll be able to help you find a safe medication for you to take and advise you on maintaining your health, while preg...

I have Epilepsy and have used Epilim for almost 5years now and in that 5years I have gained almost 35kilograms. I have started to become depressed by getting fat from the Epilim so I turned to my doctor. He has now prescribed the Epitec 25mg for me and I must increase it gradually over a period of 4weeks to 100mg. Reading all of these confessions of Epitec I'm rather scared to take it now, as I'm used to Epilim. I DO believe that these medications make you gain weight, as I do follow a very strict diet and excersize every day, I still gain weight. Is it normal to be scared of Epitec and is there a diet or excersize program one can follow to ACTUALLY loose weight on this medication? ## Yes, they are all known to cause weight gain. I've not found a single one of the anticonvul...

I gained a lot of weight and started to complain about this so the doctor prescribe 50 mg of Topomax in the morning as well as at night. I was also drinking Urbanol 10 mg morning and at night. I went to a new Neurologist that advised me to take Epitec 25 mg and wean down on the Epilum. At the moment I drink 200 mg of Epilum in the morning and in the night. I also lost more than 10 kg of weight. Every 2 weeks I increase my Epitec dosage and are currently taking 100 mg at night and 100 mg in the morning. What I want to know is if I am going to drink only one pill of Epilum 200mg within the next 2 weeks, is there a possability that I'm going to get a seizure when the Epilum is out of my system? At the end of the day ...

I use epilin cr 500. Is it the same as epitec 50? My doctor changed it so I want to know if I can use it. ## I am taking 300 mg epitec for bipolar disorder. Can I take epilim instead ## Hello Frikkie, I wasn't able to pull up much information on the epitec 50 but I was able to see that it's main active ingredient is Lamotrigine where as the Epilim 500 contains the active ingredient sodium valproate. This means that the two medications are not the same, however, they are both used to treat the same conditions. These medications are both used to treat epilepsy and mental conditions with episodes of overactivity, elation or irritability. These medications may be prescribed to individuals with bipolar disorders. I hope this information helps. Let me know if there is anything else I ...

I've recently been prescribed Epitec in the evening and Duloxetine for chronic pain syndrome. I suffer from anxiety and depression. Sometimes I experience panic disorder, also borderline bipolar. I've been taking Tramacet in the morning and Cipramil and pax in the evening. I feel afraid to start my new meds... ## Hello, Stoffel! How are you? The U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects of Epitec as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight gain. Duloxetine may cause nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. What issues are you afraid of? Perhaps if you're more specific, those can be addressed to better help you. Have you started taking them, yet?
