Started taking 10mg tablets amlodipine 2 days ago for high blood pressure , when are they likely to kick-in . ## Hello, Carol! How are you? While you may start to see some improvement within a week, or two, it will take about 4 to 5 weeks for this medication to reach its full level of efficacy in your body, according to the NIH. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking amlodipine for about 3 months. I started on 5 mg then 10 mg. Now back to 5 because of swelling of the ankles. I also have stiffness in the muscles and frequent urination at night which the doctor doesn't think it's the pills, although it started at the same time. Would taking them at night instead of morning help? ## Hello, Jo! How are you? Yes, those can be side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness and dry cough. However, since it's still continuing this far into taking it, that likely means that these symptoms will not improve and you may need to switch medications. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was on amlodipine medicine for at least two and half years and I have gone through a real hell. It all started with dry cough. I thought like any other medicine the side effect will wear off, but it didn't. Then after a year later came back pain and it really got worse. I never thought that it was the side effect from this medicine. It went on for two and half years before I realized. I was running around town to get my back pain solved. I must have had more than 50 sessions of physio and chiro. I saw that I wasn't getting anywhere and I started doing some research on computer. After reading so much on this medicine, I went to my doctor and told her to change my medicine. It has been almost three weeks and I already see that there is a big change in my back. Most of the pain i...

My husband takes the blue generic version of amlodipine/benazepril. Could this be be due to the change to Dr Reddy's brand? ## Hello, Melody! How is he doing, now? Has there been any change? Yes, as permitted by the Hatch Waxman Act of 1984, there can be differences between generic medications. But what are the markings on the pills he's received? amlodipine/benazepril 5/10 capsule information ## Ever since my husband starting taking this medication he has had insomnia. Dr. says the medicine is not the cause. I tend to disagree. ## It is not a normal side effect of this class of medications, however, medications do affect different people in different ways. It may be causing his problem or it may not, there is no way for us to know for sure. He really needs to get some advice or treatment options from his doctor to try to get to the root of the problem. ## Been on this medicine for almost a month and now I have developed a chronic cough. Is that due to taking this medicine?
