When Do You Stop Suboxone

Can someone please tell me if I can stop taking suboxone all at once. I have only been on it for one month or so and it is an 8 mg. doseage twice a day. Will it be safe or will I have withdrawals. ## I have been on Suboxone 8 mg. twice a day for two months. Can I stop taking it cold turkey or will I have withdrawals? Someone please tell me. Thanks ## Yes, stopping it abruptly will most likely cause withdrawals. If you want to stop taking it, the best thing to do would be to speak to your doctor about the proper way to taper off of it. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and its withdrawal effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, diarrhea and rebound pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

So I'm on sub for pain management. I started it August 2013. I was on upwards of 720 30mg IR morphine and oxycodone with no abuse issues, but most certainly my body was dependent and I felt like the pills were causing more pain than not. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis that started in August of 2009, and so far nothing to treat RA has worked for me. So I entered pain management for chronic pain. Anyway, knowing my body was fully dependent I wanted to w/d in a safe environment away from home and chose a clinic near Boulder, CO. I was expecting them to give me clonadine or something of the sort, but they didn't. In the middle of my w/d, or as I call it, Indian Sweat Hut moment they gave me something to put under my tongue, I slept like a baby. The next morning I woke with a migraine a...

Hi I'm just starting to research suboxone. I'm currently going to a methadone clinic every day and it is such a hassle. I have to get up every morning at 4am to be there in time to get to work the line is so long but that's beside my point, My real question is Do you gain weight with Suboxone? This is my third attempt at trying to get off of opiates by taking Methadone but every single time I start taking Methadone I gain 40 to 60 pounds within the first 4 months. Most people do, some don't I just happen to be one of them. I get so discouraged by the weight gain that I stop going to the Methadone clinic and then start using again. Sadly my mom died from using the same drug I used before treatment. I have 3 children and want to get my life together again but I just can...

I was taking (1) 5 mg of oxycodone a day for 10 months for countless surgeries. When I tried to stop taking the 1 pill a day I would go through extreme pain muscel and nerve pain that felt like my body was on fire and would not allow me to sleep. Even with trying sleep aids like Tylenol pm and Benadryl. I went to the doctor to see if he could prescribe something to help me sleep through the night. He put me on (2) 8 mg a day of suboxone. I only took the (1) 5 mg pill at night. I took my first 8 mg strip 24 hours after my last oxy on Tuesday night. About an hour after that I began projectile vomiting, felt drunk, horrible headache, server itching that kept me up all night. I called the doctor who gave me anti nausea med and have still been vomiting everything up since it is now 48 hour l...

I suddenly stopped taking Suboxone when my suboxone Dr. Who was located 35 miles away, was arrested for writing himself xanex prescriptions. Being from a rural area there wasn't a local doctor that prescribed it, so after 3.5 straight years of taking 4 to 6 mg. A day. I suddenly had no medicine and no doctor so I decided to quit. I didn't gradually cut down, I just stopped. This was in June of 2013. I had a SEVERE MIGRAINE FOR 28 days straight the week after I ran out of Suboxone .i was hospitalized 4 times, and given Daladen. I actually thought my brain would explode ! It was horrible . DO NOT quit cold turkey after being in this medicine for a long time . ## So I was only doing about 1mg orally for a week or 2 straight. Now I have a swollen tounge, sores in my mouth and someth...

I have been taking subs for about 5monthes now...had tapered down to 1mg a day and then I messed u and took 2-4 mg a day for about a week. Now I can't get anymore and I only have about 1 and a quarter of a pill left ( About 10 mg) ...am I going to be able to use this small amount to be able to taper enough to have light enough withdrawls symptoms so that I can still go to work...or am I screwed? ## IT is difficult to say, since it does contain the narcotic Buprenorphine, you may experience withdrawals, but the severity can vary from one person to another. It may best to try to plan your taper and the time you stop taking it for when you have a day or two off of work. The withdrawals can cause rebound pain, fever, chills and nausea. If your symptoms become severe, you can always go t...

I want to get clean as I have been on opiates for too long. Please advise. ## Hi Tina! I was on opiates for 11 years and became sick and tired of addiction. I've been on suboxone for 10 years now and my life has been so much better. It helps with withdrawals and cravings. It's up to you which route you want to take to get clean. Some people go cold turkey, some go on methadone and others take suboxone. I've tried cold turkey and suffered severely. But everyone is different. Were you looking for information about suboxone or thinking about getting on it? If you have any questions I would be happy to help. ## stop taking opiates. You will get very sick, no way around this. You can accelerate the process by taking an antagonist, not something I would recommend unless I still ha...

what kind of withdrawals will i have when I stop taking Suboxone? ## Your doctor should help you taper gradually to avoid the worst of the withdrawal symptoms, however, it is an opiate, so you will experience withdrawal effects just like stopping any other narcotic if you stop abruptly. ## Gosh, I hope someone out there will see this post and answer your questions because I have just started the suboxone also and the doctor wants me to stay on them for a good while. What will it be like when I want to come off these pills?? I would like to know what to expect when he says no more cause they all do that...get you hooked then when they reel you in they cut the hook off and your stuck with the pain. ## It has been 6 months and im still a wreck. I have taken 8mg orange suboxone tablet over the course of 3 days. I regularly take hydrocodone for chronic pain and a torn labrum in my hip. My last dose of suboxone was at 9am this morning, can I take hydrocodone tomorrow afternoon? Will it help my pain? I'm showing slight wd symptoms so far but mostly wondering about my hip pain. ## i am wondering the same thing. I'm stopping the 8 mg subs and my sub doc gave me a script for 3 20mg oxycontin and 3 15mg of oxycodone and said i shouldn't have any withdrawal. I'm afraid, but the subs have totally zapped me. Good luck! ## Hi I took a 8mg sub yesterday morning then I took percocet this afternoon. How soon can I take another sub? My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't ...

It's been a month without suboxone and I tapered down very low so it wasn't too bad but depression is horrible. Will it stop? I have one thought, doom! I'm scared. I have a traumatic brain injury due to a car accident where I fractured my skull, and broke my neck. I was on suboxone for 3 years at the time and 3 years since. Highest dosage was 4 mg. I'm on cymbalta, max dose. Seroquol. Now lotuda. I almost want to go back on sub. And just live on 1 mg. never had depression like this. Just feel like I'm not gonna kick the depression. If I didn't have 3 young sons I would contemplate taking my own life but would never do that to my wife or kids. Just wondering if anyone has been in hell like this? ## Dear John, I'm so sorry 2 hear about yor situation. But, wanti...

I was on suboxone 2 mg 2x a day for 4 years. I stopped cold turkey due to a request from and death of my father. 16 days until I could sleep more than 2 hours.. Days 1-5 weren't as bad as 6-14. After that it was restless legs.. Fatigue, depression, anxiety, depression again... Not until I began. Sleeping 6+ hours did most of it go away.. Still have depression and restless legs not almost 2 months later and everyday around my normal second dose time I notice I get very tired. F*** suboxone. Do not use it for more than a detox. Save yourself. If I could go back and withdraw off dope or methadone, I'd have stuck with them and not been a p**** and use sub's as a crutch. The "substance abuse" doctors give 0 s***s about you. Its all a business. $$$$ ## Unfortunately, after...

I was on H and suboxone binge for the last 2 months I'd take H 3-8 bags for 2-3 days then hold off for 24 hours and take an 8mg suboxone pill to taper (just one dose that would last for 5-7 days. This last week though I needed more suboxone to feel comfortable and did an 8mg, 8mg, 4mg dose and then stopped cold turkey. I had been clean for 5 months and the last year and half with 2 very short relapses. Anyway the first 5 days i felt fine a little fatigued at times, then day 6 I started to get really depressed (like suicidally) in the afternoon and then fell asleep normally but started RLS and kicking around 5am watched tv for 2 hours then napped for one more (So i ended up with a full 8 hours) but then Day 7 I had mild chills and then late afternoon again i felt super depressed and ...

Hello everyone, I have been on Suboxone 8/2, twice a day for over 5 years. I want to get off it but I have major health compications. I've had major depression my whole life. My last psychiatrist put me on several other drugs for my depression. One of them is an amphetamine called Vyvanse. (70 mg.) I'm also on 4 mg of clonazepam, 200 mg. of pristiq and Dexilant for acid reflux. I have a history of a negative lipid profile. In addition, I have high blood pressure. I'm also 60 years old. I know that I should never stop anythin suddenly. I have been unable to find asome out of the physician to supervise the withdrawal from anything. I am really afraid that Suboxone withdrawal will trigger a heart attack or stroke because everytime I try to taper down, My heart starts pounding i...

I am currently on 1mg Suboxone and getting ready to stop taking altogether. What are the repercussions ? ## Hi paranah, How long were you on Suboxone for? And have you always been on a 1mg dosage? I know some people have mentioned on other threads that they had no problem stopping a 1mg dose, without withdrawals; yet in other cases, long term patients have still had withdrawal issues even past the 0.5mg mark. Whereas they found themselves having to taper down to .25 mg for about a week before being able to stop completely. Everyone's different though, so you may just need to contact your doctor regarding a tapering schedule if you feel like you need additional assistance. Many people going through withdrawals also find that exercise is a big factor as far as keeping their mood eleva...

trying to detox from subone have been on 8mgs a day for 15 months need help please thank you. ## Hi confused, I hope I don,t confuse you more but heres what I did when I got down to 8mgs. By the way, it was my sub. drs. taper plan. For 2 weeks I alternated, day 1 8mgs. day2, 4mgs. day3, 8mgs.day4, back to 4mgs. This averages out to 6mgs. I kept this routine up for 2weeks then tapered to 4mgs. From the 4mgs I tapered 1mg. per week. After the last week on 1mg. I stopped completely. I was taking the strips and when I got down to 4mgs. sub dr. prescribed the 2mg strips just because it was easier to cut. Tapering this way was a walk in the park. No wds. bettween tapers. Last week on 1mg I woke up couple times thruout night but went right back to sleep. No problems after that. Been off subs s...

Suboxone/Subutex should be used one way and one way only. Start with the professionally recommended dose; (usually according to one's opiate intake) and ween off of it in 5-14 days. Any longer than that and it becomes a crutch, simply trading one demon for another. I know people that have been on it for 3yrs, and when it came time to stop...HELL. I took it for a year. Mistake. I suffered worse withdrawals from that then any other before. I relapsed. Relapsed with a plan of pure Will. I used vicodin for two weeks, weened myself off and suffered much, much less. Suboxone is powerful s***, not to mention expensive. I am a member of Pills Anonymous; therefore, I am speaking not only from my own experience, but dozens of others. Trust me; save yourself. Hell no its a waste. No matter what order u take the 2, you run the risk of getting more sick, wasting your pill or money, or worse, both! Haha never take the 2 in the same day. Ive been on subs 4 years (4years too long) but I would have to stop taking suboxone for 2 weeks of being sick before id feel the effects of oxy roxy or hydrocodone. Good luck to ya. Take another sub if anything the 2 just dont play nice together ## Hello, I don't know if your post was intended to be directed at another user (based on your wording); however, I do agree with you in that Suboxone should not be taken with any other opioid medications. I'm not one to speak from personal experience, so I'll leave the more concrete details to others who've already experienced this. But until the subs ar...

Hi all, I'm desperately seeking advice. I have decided to come off opiates. I had my last little bit at around 1pm today. The problem is, I have two young babies so it's impossible for me to look after them while in bad withdrawals. The only thing I have to help is Suboxone. Can someone tell me the best way to use the Suboxone to stop/ease the withdrawals? I know I will have to suffer to a certain extent and I understand that I have to wait a while before taking my subs but, please give me the best, most painless way to do this, keeping in mind that I have a two year old and a four month old baby boy whom I still have to take care of on my own while doing this. Please help. ## Getting into a rehab program is the best, but I understand your situation. Try using Kratom. There are ...
